Tam n pups winter trip 2022

I think that's part of the problem Tam... possibly for financial reasons you don't tend to do social activities, like go to the pub. Dogs are a great icebreaker, I never get ignored when out with Kerry.
Though perhaps take one at a time - there can be too much of a good thing 🦮 🐶 🐕‍🦺

As for route, perhaps you're OD'ing on one style of tourism, ie wild coast & beaches

And here we all are at home envious of your travels!
It is surprising how much weather can affect your mood. We are supposed to be going to daughter’s static in Devon today but husband will not go because it is raining. So he is slumped in front room in front of TV. It’s not all fun and games being in a couple 🤣

Isn't it always the same we want what we can't have. Only last week I was feeling down too and wishing I could be like you Tam and just sell everything and jump into the van and just drive around the world and see how far I get before I die:giggle: but the reality is I am too scared to walk down my own garden at night so I wouldn't last long out there on my own in the big bad world:ROFLMAO:

Gina.

Strangely I quite like it when it’s wet and windy outside but in the van being nice and cosy, just love watching the rain…😎
Yup ... but you don't have 3 dogs that need to be taken out regularly! Soggy dogs in a MH isn't fun!!!

After leaving the pollet sea arch we continued just a few miles to fanad head and the stunning lighthouse. This is breathtaking and has swiftly moved in to first place out of all the lighthouses I've visited as the most beautiful location . The weather most likely helped as the clear sky and blue sea with foaming breakers certainly help set the scene. It's a location you just want to sit and soak it all in .

When you like a nice lighthouse, make sure that you visit the one at Mizen Head in Co Cork. It is spectacular, dramatic, and has a nice little recreation of life for the keepers on site.

I'm not that big a drinker to be honest but yeah in Spain etc I'd occasionally sit outside a bar and have a pint. Can't say it ever resulted in conversation though , I dunno I think a lot of folk avoid single people for conversation... often feel like the gooseberry when there are couples everywhere.

And aye even I get tired of the same scenery so I have been looking for places other than beaches etc to visit . Not always easy to find though believe me

Aye exactly. I have 2 pairs of jeans a jumper and one jacket here soaked and trying to dry with not much luck ...the jeans I'm wearing now are damp too as we just got soaked yet again ... dogs towel is wetter than them too lol

Sunny and windy just now but don't want to hang them out to dry in a carpark

We just stick ours under the windscreen wipers to dry - we use microfibre (smooth type) towels for the dogs which don't take long to dry, as for jeans ... if it's going to be wet it's best to change into some quick drying slacks/joggers etc before going out as they take a much shorter time to dry. Our jackets are fully waterproof and the water just falls off them so a quick wipe with the dog towel to get the water that's sitting on them off and they're virtually dry. Sounds like you need to get some of the 'right' clothes for dealing with the Irish weather!

The sun is out just now between heavy windy showers .. parked up at yet another beach . There's 2 other motorhomes here so maybe I'll see if they are sociable.

But to be honest ...as clichéd as it sounds you can be surrounded by people and still feel lonely sometimes. I think I just get fed up seeing all these couples travelling both in real life and on YouTube and Instagram etc and I just think why can't i seem to find someone who wants this lifestyle....I've tried 🤷‍♂️ jees I've been on various dating sites/apps .. I'm even feckin bisexual for gods sake youd think id have more choice but nope i only meet idiots or folk that are scared of takimg chances ...so i cant help but think whits wrang wi me?

And I'm no getting any younger.

6 years I've been single now with not much more than a few dates here and there .

It gets old very quickly

Anyway

A spot of lunch then going to walk yet another beach on my own while my 3 dogs go do their own thing .
Social media is very dangerous - what's painted on Youtube and Instagram is in the vast majority of cases not real life, certainly not the complete story. "Look at me and my amazing life, wouldn't you like to be like me" gets more hits than "Look at me it's all a bit crap right now". I don't believe for a second that the "my amazing life" bunch have it good all the time, we all have ups and downs.

I find crowded places feel the loneliest if you're on your own. Yes, I'm married with kids but that has its ups and downs as well of course.

You've lost a big load of weight, it's not everything of course but it certainly does give the romantic chances a boost, and makes you feel better about yourself. It's proof you can make positive change for yourself.

I'm trying to do the same, make some positive change - lose some weight, and I've not been happy with work for a long while so I'm sticking my neck out and trying something that I think I'll enjoy more but that has zero job security. And I've just turned bloody 50, bits of my body are packing up on an almost daily basis! ::bigsmile:

Apologies if my lighthouse post was a bit out of synch with today's topic, as I am just catching up with the thread.
I'm appreciating your honest and frank posts about the challenges of solo travelling, and I recognise the feeling of people generally being wary of a man alone. I have traveled mostly solo, but on occasions travel with a female friend, and the difference in how (the same!) people approach and interact is very real and remarkable. Both my brothers drive commercially and report the same.
Take care, & thanks for the thread....

Aye I planned to mention it and see if they can pinpoint the cause just incase its anything, if it would actually stay on any length of time it would maybe come up on the scanner but it literally comes on a few seconds at 60mph ( sometimes) and goes off again at 62....you could then easily go to 70 with no sign of it .

Other times if for instance going up a hill and you drop to 4th or 3rd and accelerate it will come on around 40mph and stay on till you move up a gear ...on a couple of occasions when you do move up its then hit a dead spot and no power you've to change down again ...but that's only been the odd time.

It's done this since I bought it but it's intermittent so I've no idea what's causing it. I first thought maybe the injector wires but it's not doing the same as my hymer did when one of those went.

Not sure what it is and really I'd need to get someone with a good scanner to be in the van with me on a good test drive.

There is the off-chance that what's causing that is also causing the sluggishness on hills but I do think that's just underpowered fiat for such a big van .

I don't need it to be faster just a bit better at maintaining speed on inclines and Gill climbing
It could be a turbo overboost situation, if your waist gate is electronically controlled and your boost goes over its limits it will dump excessive pressure and give you loss of power, this would bring on the EML and should leave a code in the ECU memory,

These pictures will paint a lie of constant sunshine lol but trust me it's wild today ....but

Between ballyshannon and bundorran lies Tullan strand , another beautiful sandy beach that stretches for miles , to the side of that on the cliff tops are the fairy bridges, naturally eroded cliffs that have left some very deep sink holes and arches. Mixed weather again today so dodging heavy downpours , with all the rain and rainbows in Ireland if the myth about pots of gold were true everyone here would be rich.

P.s ballyshannon is Irelands oldest town and there is absolutely nothing in it. I drove through it .

And bundorran is one of the top tourist holiday resorts. With the beach I can see how that would be in good weather. Will take a walk in to bundorran tomorrow....hopefully it might be a bit drier. If not I'll attempt to park in town for a look around but I think all the carparks are height restricted. There's 2 young surfer lads here now in a vw camper , the smell of Mary Joanna fills the air . Amazing waves out there so be interesting to see if they go brave them or not .

My cheap reader isn't showing anything up but if I get the guy to remap it I will ask if he can check that as I'd assume they could read the ecu

And he'll have bragging rights with Hobnob on that access road

I know someone who post pictures of herself on a certain site, looks nothing like her in real life (and no, it's not me:ROFLMAO:) I have told her time and time again, the guy won't recognise you if you go to meet him.

I always post pics that are current. It's not the pics that's the problem it's just the fact I either encounter people who just want to chat online constantly and they never meet up ....or I get the other end of the scale where they just want a hookup.

No one bleeding dates these days there's no in between.

I actually blame all the online dating sites because I think it gives a false impression of so many options ...but then I equally find it impossible to meet anyone without them....no one really meets someone in an aisle in asda these days. ..but I'm fed up being led on , let down, ghosted etc .

I was home and in one place for 6 months too so its not because I move around. Although I did find a few disappeared when I mentioned I lived in a van .

If I was more computer savvy I'd start my own dating site for vanlifers and nomads

Nor me tam..🍺 but as for conversation I get it coming from all angles, I think it’s the wheelchair… they think I’m safe..😆😂😎

Have you thought about advertising for a vanlife companion for a trip…? Might be interesting interviewing..😎

Do you tell the girls and boys that you are Bi? I have 5 Gay men in my life, and they have always told me that if a man says he is Bi they run a mile.

No idea where to do that. I tried a few Facebook groups , off grid mates n dates etc but I found it was mostly nutters ...you could see why many were single lol

Aye it seems to be the way sadly. Like I said that old rumour of having more options is a complete lie. No one welcomes honesty it seems.

And it's even worse if you say pansexual 🤣🤣 I spent most of my life in the closet as a result.

Honestly as I get older I can understand why there is such a high suicide rate in gay/bi men.

It really does feel like a chore at times.

My brother was married for 17 years with two daughters before he came out. It was chaos for a while as you can imagine. Both his daughters absolutely adore him now though, and they call his husband dad too.
