Tam n pups winter trip 2022

Well this struggles to do 30 up a hill , the hymer I had with the same engine was fine , the burster tag I had was like this one vastly underpowered for the weight. Its not the top speed that's the issue as I rarely go over 60mph but when you've a queue behind you on a 60 road doing 30-40 it's not fun . The vario pulled its own all the way from London with no issues.

I'm also finding that pulling out of junctions with any incline at all with this when the surface is wet and I'm losing traction . Front wheel drive dragging 4.5t was never going to be great. Its a shame as its a brilliant van otherwise I just find it cumbersome. And that's on normal roads , I couldn't take it on some of the roads I took the hymer or the iveco.

I'm not sure if remapping it would give it a bit more grunt and I suspect I'm probably right on my max weight too if not slightly over but it's just the way this van is , you can't drop a gear in anticipation of a hill climb as it actually gets slower. You've to wait till your actually on the hill and losing power then drop a gear to try and keep up but it still drops back .. and I've not been up any serious climbs to be honest as I've not seen any mountains, certainly nothing like I'll encounter elsewhere

We have the same engine on a 5300 Dethleffs tag and I’m impressed with the engine. Sure, it’s no powerhouse but has decent torque.

I just watch the revs and if they drop to 1500rpm I change down. There’s certainly little benefit in anticipating a change down to fourth as it doesn’t seem to gain you anything.

It’s almost as though the engine is designed to have torque back-up characteristics (i.e. the torque is higher at lower revs than it is further up the rev range). If you drive with that in mind, it’s not too bad.

Would I like more power? Of course.

Be interested to hear the outcome of your remap if you go for it.👍

Ian

Aye the one that comes up near here donegal remapping says the same thing. I've submitted the online quote thing , but I'm heading towards them tomorrow anyway so if I've not heard from them I'll swing past and see them. Can't hurt.

If they do a re-map they’ll have do it twice though… too be sure too be sure. 😎

I can't believe that none of you buggers never told me that Daniel the boy from donegal doesn't actually live in donegal...I'm no happy , I just went in the tourist information office with all my albums wanting his address so he could sign them and he dissnae live here

Never mind Tam, just ask them where Eoin McLove lives instead ;)

I dinnae Ken who that is
Ahh, you didn't watch Father Ted then. It was a character who was a parody of Daniel O'Donnell, he liked cake, jumpers and he was frightened of catching the menopause from his fans. He sang songs like "My Lovely Mayo Mammy".

I suspect he wouldn't have liked Five Finger Death Punch. ;)

Have it re mapped in Ireland , it’s not that expensive and makes a huge improvement in torque, and slightly better mpg, what’s not to love🤷🏻‍♂️

I see that there is a company in Galway called West Coast Tuning.
I know absolutely nothing about them so I cant recommend them, but they have good reviews.

Hi again Tam I see by your latest posts your thinking about doing a remap on your van? There's a guy in Boyle County Roscommon called Gary, Remapping Ireland
I haven't used him personally but I know others who have and he seems a decent honest guy by all accounts, I'm not sure where you are now but if you get on the N4 heading south and slightly inland you'll find Boyle town right on that road it's a good road, the town of Boyle is nice and for parking you have several choices of Boyle Marina where you can gets showers and washing machines etc, also Lough Key is a great wee spot with some lovely walks and plenty of parking again, if you do decide to take that route you'll be on the inland waterways where every stop off point and marina have showers etc buy a Waterways Ireland smart card around €10 in most shops, pubs etc near any of the waterways that card gives you access to toilets, showers, sluices etc and well worth that slight detour inland while your in the vicinity check out Carrick on Shannon for the craic especially at weekends 🤣👍
