Tam n pups winter trip 2022

Finally parked up for the night on a wee free aire about 15 minutes drive from dieppe.

I'm still none the wiser what's going on with the van but I will get a chance to poke around tomorrow and see what's what.

The drive up here was hectic , the roads in France avoiding tolls are a pain in the ass at the best of times but I think I also had a lot of traffic due to folk finishing work etc. I had to go refuel so I headed to an intermarche only to find the gantry was 2.8 metres high and my van is 3.1 ...so I had to nose it in as close as I dared to the pump which meant it was very awkward filling it up , I wondered why there was loads of diesel on the ground which hadn't been cleaned up and then I found out why when the pump didn't cut off and I got soaked in diesel when it came shooting out the filler. Bloody trainers are ruined .

Anyway I'll have a look at the van tomorrow and see what's what ...

I had one of them at a French garage last October but I managed to jump out of the way.

Intermarché are my least favourite fuel stations, they are often easy to enter but tight on exit with a grumpy Madame in a tiny payment cabin that you cannot reach from the vehicle.

Not see anyone in a payment cabin at supermarket pumps for a few years in France.

When I arrived last night there was a British motorhome on one side and a British land rover and huge caravan on the otherside but when I got up this morning at 7.30 both had gone ....I never heard a thing

Lovely sunny morning but chilly , once we've had a walk I'm going to remove the front passenger wheel as I've still got a strange noise coming from there when braking so I need to check that out . And I also want a good look around the gearbox etc

Then I need to pick up a few items from lidl and will then go check out parking at the port later .

No problem parking just pull into the right hand lane.

The area in blue is the car park don't go in there with your size van.
Pull up in the check in lanes on the right hand side marked in green they never use the right hand lanes and plenty of room.

I'm sure he said somewhere that he had left you a key out so you can grab a sandwich before long drive home
He knows there is lkecy, water and where my dump point is and he knows I could get my daughter to let him in if he gets desperate.

That's very kind but I'm hoping to make it home OK.

Just been under for a good look . I've cleaned off around the bottom of the gearbox ...I'm actually not sure if it is oil or if its coolant that's washed oil residue down from above . Its very confusing . If it is oil I can't see any dripping out of the gearbox . My temp gauge has went up a good few times on steep inclines in Spain and Morocco but the expansion tank is right on the level , can't see any obvious leaks and the gauge always returned to normal after the hill climb. Oli level is also spot on so I'm totally confused.

Had passenger front wheel off too and nothing amiss there either.

I'm starting to think the van is just winding me up.

I'll just have to see how it goes on the drive home and keep checking to see if anything becomes visible.

You gotta love a patronising French man eh

Just been in lidl buying a few bits.

At the checkout the girl started speaking French to me so I said sorry, je no parlez vouz France. Its the best I can do. ...but she basically repeated the same thing to me again ...so I shrugged and said sorry ...old git behind me pipes up ....how can you visit a country and not speak any of the language.....

So I said

Lo siento senior pero yo hablar English, poco deutsch y poco espanol , pero no fluido, yo no visitar francois yo transit via españa gracias. And gave him a wink 😉

Feckin patronising auld shite

OK well I have some good news and some no so good news.

So I was sat in lidl carpark and this big bird shat on my newly cleaned windscreen , so I sat there giving it a good blast with the windscreen washers as you do .. I then drove round corner to carrefour and topped up my diesel...probably same price as UK but saves me stopping for a bit on the other side.

Annnnyyyyway as I was filling with diesel I see water pouring from my front bumper so I had a look underneath , lots of liquid pouring from bottom of engine at gearbox 🤔 so I had a look behind bonnet and sure enough the rubber seal that's meant to stop rainwater and windscreen washer fluid from running on to my engine is missing ....so whenever I use the washers my engine gets soaked ...that's running down the block collecting any oil spills and then the oily black mess is being sprayed under my van . So I don't have an engine oil leak or a coolant leak just a missing seal giving my engine a wash . So that at least clears up one issue.

Still no idea why I'm hearing other things but I do also think at the minute I'm running heavy on the rear of the van and light on the front as I've only 30% water etc on board , no extra water or dog food etc but now I've the scooter on the back again.

Where this seal has gone I have no idea , it was definitely there before and I'm not sure how it could just fall of either but there's no sign of it🤷‍♂️
