Tam n pups winter trip 2022

Will they leave the dog in the van when that massive great X ray machine scans it? Because it gets done on the way out too. I’d not be happy about any animal getting that ginormous dose of X-rays.
Plus I think it would be able to easily identify a dog's skeleton so no way to hide it anyway!

And another thought - what happens to the dog if the Spanish find it? Will they put it in quarantine, or might they put it down? Could be dreadful.

I read that very interesting Nat Geo article someone posted, and it mentioned a dog rescue place running in Morocco (Tangier). They get dogs adopted outside Morocco, care for street dogs, etc. Good place to donate cash to once Tam has left!

But, an idea! Maybe your friend could take his pup there, donate cash so they can look after the dog for him, and do the formal adoption process properly so he can get the dog out of Morocco safely?

Agree - no idea what they’re really looking for, I thought weapons but could be animals or people.

I've resisted commenting ref rescuing the dog but there are very good reasons why you can't just bring back one as they are doing, it is to protect other creatures in the country they're taking it into from the risk of spreading disease etc. This couple have had the dog for a while so I assume it's in good health, no rabies etc, but it still isn't right to do it, simply put I don't want my dogs to be put at unnecessary risk by someone doing this.

Me too, but we think the same.

This is exactly what I want to say but get shot down so I can't, if these people have tried to re-home one here and been rejected there must be a reason why.
Have they just picked this dog up on a whim with no idea what it's going to entail, hope not.

Sadly your first para is not true. It seems to be ridiculously hard to adopt a dog in this country. I know of a few people who have tried in vain and ended up getting a puppy instead as no one polices that.

I think that's the plan

Oh there will be a reason why. It's those reasons that are the problem. One charity I tried to adopt through wanted to know the thickness of the walls in the house among 3 other pages of information. They need you to have a fully enclosed garden with 6 ft fences. What happens if you live out in the middle of nowhere, acres of fields all around but no fences. They have a quick look and stick you in the rejected pile.

Tell them you live in a motorhome? Zero chance.

Guys I've no interest in there being a long lengthy debate on this thread of whether what they are doing is wrong or right etc. I just mentioned what they plan to do. And if I hear next week how they got on I'll post that too.

It's their choice to risk it or not.

We are not having 2 or 3 pages of arguing back and forth 👍

So this is where I ended up parking overnight last night. It isn't the most scenic or charming, but it was surprisingly quiet overnight.

Planning to move as soon as we've been our morning walkies.

Are you in the line, or where you are taking the photo from.
Edit sorry I see now I have blown it up.

I'm on the second line ... its alright just not somewhere I'd usually choose. Quite a few left already since I took that photo so I think many had the same problem I did. I'll be heading in to essaouira for the day after our walk

Because it befriended them , it's travelled with them for 4 weeks and they like it.

But to be honest adopting a dog in the UK is actually no easy task. And if you live in a van you can rule out that option
We always donated to the dogs trust, until our youngest daughter had to rehome a dog after her and her partner split up, leaving her with a dog that bite her three times, even though she gave both her dogs love and affection, this one needed a man and she was honest and the dogs trust classed it as a dangerous dog and wouldn't take it. 🤔

She found a rehome for her and she was rehomed again after the girl started a family, but finally ended up with a family with two children and two cats and had a great life until she died last year. 🐕🙂 Bob.

I find the fact that these centres will not let dogs go to van lifers is really bizarre. Just look at the life Tam gives his dogs🤷‍♀️

They x ray the van?

How does the x ray get through aluminium?

They do and I left my drone in Spain because of it. And have since spoke to several on Instagram who brought their drones and other things over with no issues. And many have said they don't even pay attention to the dogs when leaving 🤷‍♂️

I didn't want to take the chance myself but if others do and they get away with it . Good on them

The heart wants what the heart wants, once you fall in love with a dog there is no going back :h:

Pied piper again this morning , had 3 of the 4 strays here join us for a walk ... nice beach but again they've been burying rubbish on it . Popular with surfers I think .

How can anyone say these dogs are deprived, there is food there on the floor and two or three of them are just ignoring it, these dogs are living how they know, lazing in the sun all day by the sea, getting fed by well-wishers, pretty much like holiday makers are paying to do, how can you say they are better off away from their mates in freezing UK or couped up in a motorhome.
There are thousands of beggers and all sorts of people there who live worse lives than these dogs.

My van was x-ray'd coming back through the tunnel a few years ago, I got the impression it might have been a new toy at the time as they were training a few extra people. I had a 15kg bag of dog food behind the front seats and they correctly identified that from x-ray and just asked if that is what it was, didn't bother looking.
I guess these vans that are used as huge bombs often have a load of fertiliser in and they are looking for that kind of ting too, someone will have a go at blowing up the channel tunnel at some point!

They turn the dial up to 11. :X3:
Exactly - high-energy transmission X-rays provide fine details, even while penetrating up to 400 mm of steel. But you don't want yourself or your beloved dog in the path of a high energy ray! These are the kind of rays that are targeted to kill cancers - they destroy cells!

Think you are right there mate, surprised it's gone this long without someone trying it.

Aye I was surprised they didn't want to look in my van after the xray ...in fact they never looked in any vans after the x Ray. And I know I have stuff in the van that must have looked dodgy on an x Ray baring in mind this is my fulltime home and everything I own is in here.

The tools I carry alone should have raised an eyebrow.

And I has 2 20kg sacks of dog food

From where I saw the xray machine at tangier it was nowhere near any passport checks or any other booths , personally I think it would be absolutely doable to take a dog through there and just carry it out the van with you during the xray.

As I said its not me that's doing it , they have decided to take that chance. Whether they succeed or not who knows , I'll see what they say next week .

The sleeping tablet thing made me worry they were going to leave it in the van.
