Tam n pups winter trip 2022

Met this little sweetheart this morning , we were out for walkies and she ran over tail wagging like crazy and started rubbing against my leg for affection , she then followed us back to the camper. I got some food and water out for her but she was more interested in a cuddle . But hopefully she will have eaten once we left .. apologies for the repetitiveness and the doggy baby talk in the video lol , conversation is difficult with dogs

Then there were 4

While I was stopped at this cliff spot 2 wee boys that were in the field opposite with their mum and sheep ran over waving and said bonjour monsieur....i offered them a banana each or a sweet....their fake toffee éclairs, hands down the sweets won lol and off they ran waving goodbye

Then continued to safi , squeezed in to a carpark right next to the old medina and the ceramic factory. We had a walk around the factory first , its free to visit probably because they hope you will buy something but ceramics and camper vans don't really go especially on Moroccan roads. And again I don't have a house to decorate lol

These are the factory pics and all the stalls selling the finished articles

Wow, Thanks Tam. That is a lot of pottery I love the colours I would spend a fortune in those places!!

Oh and what do they eat ?
Frozen peas, dandelions & strawberries! At least those were the favourite delicacies of my grandparent's tortoise (still going strong with my aunt - estimated age 130 - that's the tortoise, not the aunt, though she's not far behind....). Regular food was almost any green & leafy salad.

Tim the tortoise was a regular Houdini, he used to dig out of his enclosure at night (despite many defences having been laid) and dig into my grandfather's fruit cage - he's find him the next day still in there, motionless, having stuffed himself with strawberries all night. You'd wonder how a tortoise can look bloated, but he managed it.

Anyhow - I'm sure Moroccan tortoises are quite happy being in Morocco!

That poor dog brought tears to me eyes. I don't think I could cope with Morocco.
I have sent a tenner to the dog food account. Please let us all know when the fund needs topping up.
Thankfully the majority of the dogs we have met have looked in good health and haven't been skinny , the worst ones have so far always been female and look like they've had a few litters , probably why they are so skinny as the pups have taken all the good out them . Poor buggers , I've fed 7 today and that was the only one that was skinny which is good , the others were all OK looking and i just left some food by the roadside for them ... they wouldn't come near though , but they were a fair bit out of town and I've found those ones to be less trusting

Thanks for the donation it's much appreciated, I'm happy to say quite a few sent something so we should be good for a few weeks supply although I will need to pick up another bag tomorrow and I need more plastic bottles to use as water bowls .

Don't do it Tam, you know you won't be able to bear leaving Tortoise behind when you pop your clogs:(
I was joking about the tortoise. Although we found our first one today , it went in to hiding and I'd hoped to see it on the way back from our walk but it had disappeared

So our overnight spot tonight is on a wildspot , in the middle of nowhere by a ruined kasbah , somewhere between safi and essaouira. It's so quiet you could hear a pin drop. A shepherd passed with some sheep earlier but otherwise I'm the only one here. No stray dogs either so far although there's a few skelingtons about .

Well, if one looks tame, old Tim loves having the top of the back of his head scratched - scratch him quite hard on top of his head and his head would be straining as far out of his shell as he could, to let you get to more. Not sure a wild one would let you do that though!

Tim got into a few scrapes. Crawled into a bonfire once, his shell got damaged as a result - not all the way through, just outer layers - the vet suggested car body filler! So my Dad dutifully repaired him with body filler, carving the shell pattern in, on the worst spots. Took about 30 years for the damage to grow out. He had his address on the back of his shell in dymo marker, as he dug his way to freedom a couple of times. You'd be surprised how far they can travel! Determination goes a long way.

Anyone smuggled a tortoise from Morocco?

Asking for a friend

Don’t forget you‘ll probably have to endure the XRay Truck before embarkation at Tanger Med. 🤞

Aye . I'm waiting to see how an Instagram friend gets on with that . They're taking a dog back to Spain.

And it hasn't a passport etc , they plan to give it some sleeping tablets lol.

Risky I guess but they travel back on Tuesday and they're adamant they're not leaving the dog behind .

They plan to get a the vet stuff done in Spain like they found it there.

Controversial I know but I can't blame them really

Tam please don't think I am hijacking again as I promised I wouldn't comment, but with all the dogs we have here that want rehoming, why the hell have they got to bring one from morroco?

If you speak to Andy Mcketterick on MH Fun Facebook, he used a Vet in Fes when he realised his dog (Gordy) rabies‘ cert was about to expire. We’d all been held up in Maroc due to covid Restrictions. He arranged to see the vet on a Sunday and he sorted the paperwork out and Andy got Gordy back into Spain without incident. Not sure if it was legal or not.

I think the needs of the dogs in Morocco are far greater. They are starving or injured and just running wild. Here, most of the dogs needing to be rehomed are in rescue centres and most are in good health.
