Tam n pups winter trip 2022

I was given a huge tortoise 🐢 when I was about 7 by a neighbour's son who was moving to London. The vet reckoned it was well over 100 years old. Word got round the estate and he was stolen :crying1: I was distraught. Not long after our dog was knocked down and died :crying1:.

Re: 3 million strays

These are not wild animals genetically evolved to fend for themselves. They are domesticated animals reliant on human hosts, and I assume abandoned originally.

Would it not be more humane to cull them to drastically reduce the problem? Note, this is just an option for discussion. I am one of the many people who have donated to Tam’s fund.

I don't know what the answer is. I think I remember Tam talking of a woman in Greece who would pick up stray dogs and bitches and get them neutered then put them back on the streets so at least not so many puppies would be born.

They are actually doing this in morroco.

Oh yes I remember Tam talking about it I think. Don't they tag the dogs ears to show they have been "done"

Yeah as crap as that is they need to do something because while left to just multiply and not easy to take them out the country the problem only gets worse

So I just got kicked off my wildspot by 3 auld wa@%rs on scooters , ignorant gits who just kept repeating the Same words .. I was in the middle of dinner , its taken me an hour and 15 minutes to drive to another spot . And there's about 20 vans here . No idea what it's like as I had to drive here in the dark avoiding the ridiculous amount of people , donkeys, scooters with no lights etc that's on the terrible roads that are a nightmare enough to drive on in daylight.

Anyway I'm parked up , soon as I stopped I had 2 very exited friends run over to say hello..

And have dinner

Met this little sweetheart this morning , we were out for walkies and she ran over tail wagging like crazy and started rubbing against my leg for affection , she then followed us back to the camper. I got some food and water out for her but she was more interested in a cuddle . But hopefully she will have eaten once we left .. apologies for the repetitiveness and the doggy baby talk in the video lol , conversation is difficult with dogs

Local dogs must look at your three and think they are Royalty :giggle:

Ela not as bad as the other 2 she was wild longer but jade definitely a princess

Morocco is certainly giving you some challenges.
It does appear to be not an easy place find off grid parkups
It's crap for parkups , to be honest I'll be making the most of this trip as I'm here now but unless inland is drastically different I can't see me returning.

Tam please don't think I am hijacking again as I promised I wouldn't comment, but with all the dogs we have here that want rehoming, why the hell have they got to bring one from morroco?
Because it befriended them , it's travelled with them for 4 weeks and they like it.

But to be honest adopting a dog in the UK is actually no easy task. And if you live in a van you can rule out that option

Please keep us informed how they get on. That dog so deserves a loving couple and a forever home:h:

You're spot on there Tam. My cousin tried to adopt a pair of border collies from a rescue centre. They kept making up up new reasons why she couldn't so eventually had to buy a couple of pups from a breeder. She is retired with her own house and secure garden and has always had dogs but that wasn't good enough for the rescue centre.

I have nearly 3 acres and I was told I had to put up a six foot fence around the lawn area. I had a 35kg Labradoodle for 14 years and he never got out I had stock fencing all around and that was cheap and sufficient (y)edited to say he wouldn't even try to get by a wind breaker when we were on sites, but what do I know🤷‍♀️

Shame there wasn't a guardian to fend off the scooterati... :whistle2:

Hopefully, now you've moved you'll have a good night's sleep and things will look better in the morning.

Apart from Herman the German telling you off for feeding the strays, have you actually noticed anyone else feeding them?

And do your three get the same grub?

I'll let you know whether they succeed or not. From what they've said they plan to go straight to a vet in algeciras and have vaccines and passport done there .

I don't know who the 3 auld guys were. They weren't police and too well dressed to be farmers. Couldn't understand a word but I also didn't want to take the chance of them or someone else coming back later so I just moved.

I've seen one couple feeding 2 strays at their van ...I think they were French.

My 3 are still on the food I brought from Spain for them probably not last till I leave though so they'll end up with stuff from here too ..

Yeah I've heard countless people say they were turned down from dog adoption places...its no wonder there's so many in shelters in the UK. You'd almost think they didn't want dogs rehomed.

Can't they do that in Morocco?
They would need to have titre tests done . Sent to Spain for results and then remain in Morocco for 3 months before they could enter Spain.

Not enough time unfortunately.

Dog rescue centres are cash cows …. No dogs no cash….😎
There actually aren't as many dogs needing homing as you think ... nothing like the numbers pre-covid as the govt put a ban on importing any foreign dogs for rehoming so whilst there are still UK 'resident' dogs wanting new homes the choice on the whole is quite slim, we had this issue when we got Minky 2 years ago to an extent but even more so this year when we got Bella. If like us you wanted one that would 'fit' in with your other dogs, lifestyle etc, you could have a very, very long wait.

This may also explain why they are very 'selective' in where the dogs go as many people got dogs during covid who probably shouldn't have, they may have thought they knew what dog ownership entailed but the reality came as a shock to some especially once the newness wore off, so they may have seen a good few returned. With so few dogs for rehoming and many people wanting them then dog rescue centres can be more picky to ensure the dogs definitely goes to someone who they consider the best fit. It doesn't mean I agree with the centres who are extremely picky but they are just trying to do their best for the dogs, in their eyes anyway.

Aye . I'm waiting to see how an Instagram friend gets on with that . They're taking a dog back to Spain.

And it hasn't a passport etc , they plan to give it some sleeping tablets lol.

Risky I guess but they travel back on Tuesday and they're adamant they're not leaving the dog behind .

They plan to get a the vet stuff done in Spain like they found it there.

Controversial I know but I can't blame them really

Will they leave the dog in the van when that massive great X ray machine scans it? Because it gets done on the way out too. I’d not be happy about any animal getting that ginormous dose of X-rays.
