Absolutely, First time we had used this route it was a self serve type service, you had a choice of about three or four main courses and all three courses were chosen and were on the tray at once.
l had some Beef Stew type meal and the meat was tender with a lovely sauce.
Never having used DFDS previously l thought this was the norm.

Must have been a special deal as not normal, even used it back in the 80's when tugging no meals included.
On one of their specials I got a return for £79 about 4 years ago.

Rainy day this morning but looks like it will clear up later. Fortunately I had the good sense to do balintoy harbour yesterday on the scooter while it was sunny . So here's a few photos of that. Once again it was used in game of thrones as the iron islands and the port of lordsport , lovely wee harbour

I'm hoping to do the coastal walk along to the rope bridge today ...not crossing the rope bridge as I don't think my vertigo could stand it and I know the dogs wouldn't like it either. But I can hopefully get some pics if it at least. There's a laybye up the road from it I think I can park in as the actual carpark has a height barrier on it.

On the road down to Ballintoy you might have noticed the white church. There is a cliff top path from there to the rope bridge. (you would need to keep the dogs on a lead though)

I also believe that there is a number to phone at the entrance to the car park at the rope bridge. They will send someone to open the barrier. It is operated by the National Trust so there might be a charge to park.

That’s a shame when we were last there we stopped overnight too. Asked permission

Just don't even think of taking the dogs across it ... you'll all end up stuck in the middle and have to be rescued by a helicopter!

The current bridge is a tourist attraction and therefore very safe. I had a Great Aunt who told me she had been across on one of the very early versions. It had a single rope as a handrail on one side and totally open on the other side😬
It was originally used by local fishermen for access to the island where they used nets to catch salmon.

Hey Tam, do NOT miss this when you get nearer, very well worth the visit to the main site but the other 2 smaller ones are good too.

newgrange is worth the trip , plenty of room in the car park, they open the park about half hour before the centre opens , the only downside with Newgrange itself is they rebuilt it a bit too new ! JMHO , the other mounds etc are more realistic .

We managed to park in the laybye just up the road from the rope bridge carpark and walk down. To be honest it's stupid where they have put the barrier as there's a 50 yard driveway from there to the very large carpark that was mostly empty. But being national trust they charge for the carpark and again for those wanting to cross the bridge. So to park a motorhome and walk the bridge would cost £15 . Dogs not allowed to cross the bridge anyway even if we had wanted to. To be honest the amount of hype around this bridge I expected more , there are 2 bars and at least 3 houses in the tiny nearby village of ballintoy named after this bridge ....ie the ropebridge Inn, ropebridge House, the ropebridge coffee shop etc etc...the walk along to it is pleasant but there are better coastal views nearby where you don't have to pay to park so I'm surprised it's as busy as it is.

Personally I was a little disappointed with it but here's the photos so you can make up your own mind.

After leaving there we drove to see the dark hedges. Originally planted to line the driveway to the big Manor house in the photos. Sadly each year another one or two is brought down by storms or lightning so they may all be gone at some point. Another game of thrones location "the kings road"

You'd hope that there would be enough forethought to plant some more trees now, even if further down the road, to one day take over. It definitely doesn't look as spectacular as it used to.

Is that no in the south? On Google that comes up north of Dublin. I'll no be in Dublin till November

Must be the van size or something.
Yes ,dearer over 7m length
Even at 2am I get quoted £160 plus 66 for dogs

Ferry for dogs is immediately 20 quid cheaper .
I've never been able to get a tunnel price anywhere near the ferry cost.
They also lie that the 20 quid cost is what "defra charge" No they don't defra charge nothing.
Its the dogs Tam, we've got the same problem .
To me the ferry cost is for the vehicle . The fact that we have dogs doesn't make the cost dearer as it is for the checking.

Yes they have stopped it

DFDS included a meal for each passenger during covid on all routes ,to my knowledge
