Tam n pups winter trip 2022

No they don't. If you read some of the reviews/comments on some places this sort of thing is mentioned along with issues from local youths, dogs barking, you name it ... even 'ladies with plastic chairs' using them as business premises!
So it's OK to mention anyone else it seems bar other motorhome or campervan users.

That's sensible isn't it lol

with that size investment, a campsite has to be the only sensible arrangement.

that is out of order if you can afford a bus/trailer then you can afford to pay for your overnight stay on a campsite.
You won't get those size vans on campsites.

I don't care what size van is parked next to me. I agree, just don't take the piss by selfish parking and setting up home there. I have found over the years that peeps with large vans and cars/trailers tend to like to park up on secure campsites BUT we rarely wild camp so don't see if there are some cheeky twats in big rigs squeezing into the free places, and I don't mean Aires some are so big there is room for all of us, that is out of order if you can afford a bus/trailer then you can afford to pay for your overnight stay on a campsite.
I agree ref the behaviour and hogging of space especially by some of the big rigs. There are a lot of MHers in Spain who seem to think they can do as they please, especially some German and Dutch who have taken over parking areas as if they own them. I don't however agree ref those with big rigs, expensive MHs etc having to use campsites as they should be able to afford to do so, we could afford to use a good quality site every day if we wanted but choose not to because that's not what we like, in fact being on sites would be hell for us.

I don't think it's that cut n dried , I'm not sure what the answer is other than don't take the piss.

I like to wildcamp and free park but I very rarely stay in one place more than a few days . In most cases I will park taking up the bare minimum of space I can fit in to and unless someone pisses me off first I generally am quiet and keep myself to myself. If asked to move ill just move.

But when folk are parking up for weeks and months and basically setting up home in a carpark and getting all territorial with it it really is a joke

I'm aware of that . That was my point

It seems its OK to criticise a free parking space. But not to.point out or criticise peoples behaviour on those free parking spaces that effectively result in us losing those free parking spaces.

I could understand their objection if you were naming individuals or something but generalising about selfish parking and folk taking the piss is most definitely required to try and stop idiots from doing it.
I agree however if "person' criticisms are permitted unfortunately there will be those who will use it for very trivial and/or stupid stuff, such as "the neighbouring MH gets up at 7 am to walk his 3 dogs and clatters against my MH whilst doing so!". :giggle:

But we are all staying in the same campsites or aires/emptying our sh*t down a suitable point/living in a box etc etc so shouldn’t be judged on cost/size of the motorhome.
I shouldn't have to judge whether a 9mtr plus MH, with a 4mtr Car Trailer is neither practical or a sensible decision when trying to wild camp on sites without causing a nuisance to others in the space they will take up.
That decision is for the owners to make, but if I were to find a MH space on an aire or anywhere else being taken by a toad, I would expect them to move it and give up the allocated space for what its really intended for.
The Reason I mentioned the "Investment" amount of 250/300K upwards, with trailers etc was to try and understand the mindset of these large rig owners parking in places that they know they are too big for, and not considering how this might upset others that cannot get space because of them.

So am I being unreasonable in suggesting they are being selfish in their actions with their blatant disregard for others with normal sized outfits that are being denied a parking space?

Travel with a big rig & trailer sure, but find a more suitable parking space for both, which is why I suggested campsites, not limited space wild spots that are at best OK for one/two nights max for regular sized vans, without the risk of getting blocked in or moved on by the police.
Is it not a responsible decision that has to be budgeted for when deciding to own any large touring rig/outfit i.e Space, Where am I going to park it?, without infringing on others, if it doesn't fit in the regular MH box, its too big, without allowing for the toad on the back.

I know I will have a fight with The Germans mainly, but its sickening to witness their selfish attitude, destroying park up opportunities for the future, as we see more & more parking bans happening, by mainly overstayers of all sizes, but further amplified by the sheer size of larger Rigs, so because of this everyone will lose out.
IMHO, We will all have to resign ourselves to booking campsites in the near future, Portugal has taken the lead, Spain wont be far behind.
Reading Tams and many others threads on parking availability compared with last year is a sure sign, FLT days are numbered in beach areas, even in small vans.

We see them all the time in England

I don't think those large rigs would get on most campsites. I have stayed at a few where even my modest 7.6m was problematic. There is usually more space on camperstops/Aires.
I am talking about here in England. Maybe different in Europe:unsure:

about the same size as ours we don't struggle here and didn't struggle anywhere in Germany last time we were there.

We prefer sites to FLT. The FLT places in Portugal Algarve looked more like freeloading Gypsies crammed together! We almost parked/stopped for night in a carpark until other 'normal' sized vans started to swarm the carpark, so who would be in the wrong in that situation? US because we are in an RV or the the 'normal' size vans crowding the car park AFTER we had arrived?

Your van is tiny compared to the vans we are talking about also talking about Spain where most sites have low trees for shade.

Yep I hate to say it but I share that view mostly.

I've said it before about this and other things , it's greed and too much money that causes most problems in the world

Simply put I can't afford to live my lifestyle if I have to pay for campsites or aires , yet my lifestyle is the cheapest way I can live. I can't afford to buy a house again , I'm not even sure what fulltime job I could get if I had to .

So if eventually all the free spots go I'm buggered ... but someone with the funds to buy a 300k motorhome won't face that problem they'll either use sites , or they'll sell up and do something else.

I saw the same thing happen in the vw scene when folk with money started buying restored campers for crazy money ....pushed up the price and now the cool folk who used to build them and enjoy them can no longer afford them

Property went the same way , locals grow up in the country and islands and can't afford to live there as outsiders pushed up the prices.

Greed will destroy all in the end

I can't possibly see the need for the size of some of these rigs or the crazy amount of stuff they cart behind them .

But they don't care as when that place bans it they'll just go somewhere else

It's folk that don't have the money or the options that suffer in the end

The odd site we have been on no way of getting vans of that size on.
We must have been on some big sites then over here as we have seen them and admired them and spoken to the owners.

Yours is tiny compared to these things . My van looked like a toy when that big morello blocked the sun from my solar panels yesterday lol . Fortunately he left as his wife got their shoes dirty

Not just in Scotland, South East is just as bad, London comuters buy up property in the villages & small towns, locals who were born there can't afford to live in their own village.

don't call our van tiny  I am trying to get Mr Ginam to downsize and he ain't having it, he says I would never manage in a smaller van as he is not allowed to squeeze past me now when I am standing at the hob🤣

Oh I know it's everywhere

Of course it's a double edged sword because it's human nature to take the best offer you get when selling. I doubt many would turn down an offer from an outsider to sell to a local cheaper.

It's just all messed up priorities nowadays.

But it's been manipulated that way now for decades.

You'll feel just how small it is when you have one of these monsters parked next to you lol.

I'm complaining my van is too big lol . Yet it looks tiny side by side to some.

And there's usually only 2 people in them . And most are not fulltime 😱 I.mean I.live in mine that's the only reason I have one this size ...but I'm determined to drop back down to 7 metres max

Yes, our van (Dethleffs tag) is the same size as yours Tam. It’s the middle one in the picture below and is dwarfed by our neighbours:

The first comment is the only one that is similar to yours in that it is criticising someone and I suspect will get revised by the P4N moderator.
It was there before mine . But written in German. I suspect the moderator can't speak German

I will rewrite my comment in German and see 🤣

There are currently 10 Dutch people sat around a large table in this carpark having a drink and laughing very loudly 😁

The two guys that run P4N are French.
Like their parking...shoulder to shoulder then:giggle:
