Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

Okay so after a spot of lunch we had a wee walk and then I fitted the basket to the bike and we took it for a test run :)
She fe out twice within the first 5 minutes but we persevered and we managed just over a kilometre which isn't bad for her first go.
With practice we will get there so she will be happy to ride in it for longer.

Trying to video her behind you isn't easy ha ha buy here's an attempt.

I need a few more doggy throws to pad it out but she seemed to be fine after her initial two attempts to jump out. Fortunately wearing her harness which is padded so she didn't hurt herself.
Then she stood up in it most of the way ...but she did that first time in the van too then started to sit and lie down.

Will have another go later and I'm sure she'll be fine.

Been trying to teach her sit and lie down today too .she's a clever girl she'll pick it up

You can get cane baskets with a sort of wire cage arched over the top to stop them falling out.
@Aly1 has one, she may put a picture of it on here for you to see, another funster has used it for her dog.

Tam you have made a rescue dog very happy. Lovely to see.
Yeah I saw them online but I'm sure after a couple of tries she will be fine in this one ...shes harnessed in so she can't fall completely out of it.

It's all little by little but she's a quick learner.

Can the basket be fitted to the front? You’ll be able to see if she’s there then and not done a runner....:)
Sadly not ..you can get ones that go on the front but they weren't as big....so she wouldn't fit.

I've seen other baskets online bit as we are in Spain and I want to get her used to it asap we have to make do :)
She can't do a runner as she's harnessed in which lets her stand sit or lie down but if she jumped out she woukd dangle from her harness and I can feel when she moves about....its unlikely we will ever be on roads with it either mostly cycle paths etc

Not keen on cycling on roads. ....eventually I'm hoping she will run alongside but that will be when she's bigger.

Another very successful night with jade. I went to bed just after 11 didn't use the crate last night she just settled up on the sofa with her blanket and went to sleep, not a single whine or peep out of her till 7.15 this morning.

Can't believe how good she's being ....really is a wee star[/QUOTE]

Come on guys

Do we forgive that pun?

Jade's first time off the lead playing with Alfie.
She's coming back when called now it's just getting her to stop ha ha

Ask anyone that knows me and they'll tell you, I'm not a one for saying things like "that's cute" but damn, that really is CUTE.

I'd call you a lucky b*gger for finding the ideal canine friend Tam, but I'm pretty sure you already know that.

Enjoy, and keep the pics coming please, really enjoying this thread.

Yeah hymie I don't know whether it was luck or fate who knows.
I was nervous about adopting a rescue dog because I heard so many people saying they had problems and you can't help but worry about that especially as this is technically my first dog.
But she's perfect:) ...and I couldn't be happier.
And she seems to be very happy with the situation too :)

Drove up to velez -blanco this morning and went to visit the castle.
Sign said no dogs allowed but jade being so cute the lady on the desk said no problemo and we got to go in :)
It's clearly under restoration but what a view it has over the town and mountains.
It's freezing up here even with the sun out ...View attachment 223780 View attachment 223781 View attachment 223782 View attachment 223783 View attachment 223784 View attachment 223785 View attachment 223786 View attachment 223787 View attachment 223788 View attachment 223789 View attachment 223790
Great Castle Pics Tam Thanks(y)

Got to agree you've made a great choice with Jade, Tam. She seems to have settled in very well.

I must admit to being a weeny bit jealous that you haven't had to get up at 3am with her :)

Love following your travels and photos.

Yes seen them online

I do think I'd look a big pansy running about with that on my bike :p
If it stops your dog jumping out in front of a car or bike I think it’s worth it, the day may come when she sees something she wants to chase, and she doesn’t want her feet stuck in the wheels

She can't get near the wheels. She's harnessed in with only enough slack to stand . If she comes out the side there's pannier bags covering the back wheel either side

The idea is to train her so she doesn't jump out under any situation.
And it's rare she will be anywhere near cars whilst in there. I don't cycle on roads she'll be fine :)

Thinking more in the line of cats or other dogs.she may give chase to.

A trailer is popular with many cyclists in France.

Morning Tam, did you and Jade get a decent night's kip?

Hymie

Jade doesn’t look too worried about the cycle basket, probably more the oddity of it!
Lovely to see her playing tag, nice to see she will come to your whistle even is she doesn’t stop, its really hard to stop G if she’s playing tag!

If he's up at Maria, probably a cold Night!
Yes your right it was freezing up there I was shivering taking jade out this morning.
Still too cold for the mountains I think so after a walk we've moved again and at present I'm in huercal overa
There's a market on so gonna have a wander around that then see what we think for tonight's stop.
