Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

Tam, have a look at Adaptil, they do a spray to help dogs with travel sickness. My friend’s going to use it with her pup who is about Jade’s age and is dreadfully sick even on short runs.
To be honest I'm hoping she simply adjusts and gets used to it.
Both my mum's dogs suffered it at first when travelling but it got rarer and then stopped within a few weeks so I'm hoping jade is the sam
If it doesn't stop after that then I'll try some other solutions
I'm sure she will be fine ....shes got a lot of travelling to do

Morning Tam, Sounds like she's doing great and doing you the world of good too. Haha with the bark fright.
We are certainly having fun ....but doesn't repeating the word NO get tiring

She's taken to chewing the lead all the time and I feel every second word is no lol.

But she makes up for it with cuddles so we will get there

Hi tam,my dog always chewed her lead until i bought her a chain one,it doesn't have the same appeal nothing to get her teeth into.

Yes I might have to go down that route till she stops it ....i think she's just teething just now and wants to naw at everything apart from the toy I got for her to chew lol.

So this is where we are

You have to remember the water when out walking with the dog. (y) & for me as well :DEspecially now it is getting hotter ,like yesterday:hot:

Just a thought with the 'built in' barbecues you come across in picnic areas. Just because they are there doesn't mean you can use them.
These days around here & up in the Vale de Infierno they have removed them all due to fire risk. Not that it stops the spaniards !
Those still remaining there is usually a sign prohibiting the lighting of any fire , like up at the dam, Puente de embalses.
It used to be banned from around May 1st Until November but due to fire risk it has become year round now. Even smoking comes under " lighting a fire."

glad all is starting off well with Jade.(y)

Yes amongst the load of other stuff I bought the other day I got this neat bottle with attached drinking bowl that clips on your belt so I had that with me.

I didn't see any signs at that bit I used the bbq at and they seemed to be quite well placed and well used ...there were quite a few families there using them.
But if I see ones with signs and risk of course I wouldn't use them.
No charcoal left now anyway ha ha that was part of the reason we had them to get rid of the 10kg of charcoal I've been carting around since August ha ha.

Yes all is going well so far she's a great companion and certainly keeps me busy.

It does take time for a dog to get used to a lead - it doesn't come naturally to them.

Are you letting her explore off the lead when safe to do? A game of throw and retrieve is fun for dogs of all ages and they then get used to recall.

Not letting her off the lead quite yet as still teaching her to know her name and come when called. Don't want to risk it just yet so only off lead in the camper.

Yep, and the hot sand which can get very hot. Tam I have a set of boots if I could get an address I would post them out to you.

Like these.

Yes the sand isn't bad just now as it's quite cool this morning.
Thanks sandra that's a nice offer ...but cause I'm never in sites and don't know where I'm going one day to the next addresses are difficult.
I've seen those paws in the pet shop though.

Tam

Re your comment about saying 'No', I have always found that emphasising it by accompanying it with a light tap on the nose makes it more effective while training - I think it is as much them seeing the hand coming towards them that makes them pay attention. Soon the command 'No' will be enough.

I used this tap method with Basia's son's older Lab, which had not been trained to walk to heel and always pulled. With some persistence I had him walking to heel within half an hour. After that the command was enough. He was an easy dog to train and we were great friends, unfortunately he has now passed on.

Dont tell everyone best local beaches, next bay north is even better, but falls in Murcia province and has no overnighting signs. Camper stop 1 mile north for services.Heading over next Saturday, anyone sailing from Portsmouth 08:45 to Santander.

I've found that it's the tone of voice rather than the words used.

At the moment, I am perfecting 20 different ways to say 'Hey', from stern to squeaky-funny encouraging. :-)

Yes I find that apparently they more attention to high pitched.

You get proper rucksack for this but till then I'm using an old one because 30 mins walking a day might be ok for jade but I need more.

Look a bit stoopid but it works ....for now

Yes did work!!

It won't be long before she's swimming! :D

I didn't realise how quickly dogs swim until I swam alongside ours - they do it effortlessly and are very steamlined.

That wee dog has landed on her feet, she's loving life at the moment(y). I'll forget the Iglesias comment.
John
Yes john she hasnt half .....im currently sat outside on the step trying to get her used to me leaving her alone in the van.

I left her at 2.15 have been a wee walk and back peeked through the windscreen and she's curled up on the sofa asleep .....so I'm waiting it out to see how long I can get away with it :)

Poco a poco as they say here is espana p

Tam, Jade really should have something for breakfast specially at that age she needs at least 2 meals a day as she’s growing.
Ours still has breakfast-only a few biscuits but it stops her throwing up that foam-the sign of an empty tummy!

What's the wee squiggly thing ?
ñ , don't know what it is , but I remember senor having one:D. Hopefully someone who goes to Spain a lot will be able to tell both of us. French have two wee things above the letter "e", on is a grave , which should have one above the "a" ,I think the other is a circumflex , not to be confused with circumcision ,a much more painful outcome:D.
Never been cicumcised and it's so long ago , 50 years, since I somehow got "O" level French , never used it until I tried last year to explain, to a French couple , where the owner of the campsite in Lochgilphead had gone. Got some strange looks that day(y)(y).
Now if someone French asks me something I say "Je ne dinnae ken pas":D. Only language I am fluent in is bad language ,bloo*y good at it.
