Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

Even if you or she gets within 6" of them they also have the ability to 'fire' the tiny body hairs apparently.
Coming in contact causes acute swelling which is why with animals & small children it can be life threatening.
My friend lives in Orihuela & found an odd one on the patio- picked it up & deposited in hedge ,then went for a wee. Wife said she never seen it that swollen in all their married life & the hospital were in hysterics.
I'm giving the second part of that a funny but the first part is a little worrying

If a dog sniffs them the caterpillars have a defence mechanism of shooting hairs into the dogs face. They can be blinded if they go into their eyes. If they get them in their mouth they can cause their tongue and throat to swell so they choke.

Spanish dogs seem quite savvy, don't know why, but a baby might be intrigued. Just keep your eyes peeled. We did see a couple of the nests (also to be avoided cos they are contaminated with hairs) at the bottom of the road you're on now, near the barbeque areas. Don't get paranoid though just keep Jade where she's safe.
I'll be avoiding going there with her then. I met that cute wee dog Angus there last week I do hope he wasn't near any of them.

She definitely looks like a collie cross. Fingers crossed she won't cast much.

Yeah she has those colours but don't think she's a collie ...doesnt seem to cast much at the minute no matter how much you ruffle her so here's hoping

I bloody hope not ....im trusting vets know these things and they said about 8kg fully grown which is like Jack Russel size so let's hope so lol.

I want a smaller van

That said I saw a couple yesterday in a fiat pvc and they had 3 big red setters in it ..how they manage that I don't know.

Our Charlie is 10kg and big enough for us but he sat on a plant pot a couple of days ago and promptly grew an extra front leg. :) So keep Jade away from plant pots.

Morning Tam,
Nothing stopping you getting a smaller van , you might not get in it though.:D You both will adapt as the changes happen.

Aye I know ....but shed be getting dried before or as soon as in the van ....im hoping she's gonna stay small enough to be wrapped entirely In a bath towel lol

We have a mud-seeking labradoodle ... bought a “doggy bag” at the motorhome show and used it yesterday for the first time after we hosed him off. Flipping amazing. Cost the earth but he was dry in 5 minutes!

Obviously a very nervous dog and finding it hard to relax in her new surroundings. I'd take her back if I were you ...

Glad she is settling in well, pups will sleep a lot in between exercise,,just don't over do the exercise while she is young otherwise she may end up with joint or hip problems whilst she is growing or when she is older..

No I'm sticking with the short walks at the minute she's nice and calm in the van but outside she wants to be on the go all the time.
I have her tethered outside just now so I can sit in the sun and she won't sit at peace lol
Pulling grass out chewing stones wrapping herself round the chair and my legs lol

Did you get any rawhide or other chews in your massive doggy shopping haul? She may be teething if she's chewing stones, etc. Giving her something like that will also give her something to do - she sounds a bizzy character. Our collie never sits still unless he's sleeping!

Yes I got her rawhide bones for puppies ...she chewed it a little but seems to prefer the stones.

We shared an apple earlier she liked that :)
