Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

I ve just missed a few threads but caught up and see you now have Jade with you.
After the private messages we sent each other I just need to clarify that I told you that you only needed to buy a dog lead for your new hobby !!!!
I think I went overboard with the puppy supplies ...and then Silvia gave me a collar and lead with her too lol

Just caught up tam,,, Lolol she’s a stunner!! Lol
Good luck with her mate, she looks nice and calm! Lol.
I can’t believe you actually got a dog! Lol. Well played! X

What are you doing up at this time of night ? Puppy training ?
No wasn't anything to do with her ...bloody wind woke me up about 3am

I woke jade up going to the toilet at 5.30 ..so took her out to the toilet.
Such a good girl no accidents overnight :)
Trying to get a wee bit of shut eye now lol but wind still blawin

Glad she's settling in with you.
By the way, there has not been a breeze here in Murcia, but it will be less busy up there in the hills!
Didn't get in to town yesterday, had a siesta to recover from the jetlag!

Sightseeing and shopping today....

Look after him Jade.

Good morning Tam and Jade (Haydee until she learns English!)

Ooops about parking on top of the hill, Jesus is not doing his job!

(I'm trying not to think about whether my gazebo is still standing)

Jade has settled in so well, she's obviously happy and trusting of you already. Love the photo's, keep them coming. It'll be interesting to see what she does when you go to visit the estrecho. Lola hates water and cried when she went cos she ran ahead scrambling on the rocks then couldn't get back to us without getting her feet wet .

Martin's just asked me to remind you about the processionary caterpillars which are around at this time of year. Look out for the nests and the lines of caterpillars on the ground and keep Jade (and yourself) well away. This year they have been controlled at the lower levels of the Sierra but there are still some around.

You might already know about them but just in case ...

Have a good first day together (y).

Morning Tam , very pleased Jade slept thru, probably exhausted after the stress of a different day, brain work will wear a dog out more than just exercise.
So after a couple of days she’ll probably turn into a lunatic! :D

Morning, We are all eagerly waiting on how Jades 1st night panned out. Get out yer kip. Did she go back to her own bed after her early morning pee or yours?

Yes it was calm over there and it was here too till around 12.30 this morning then it's been wild but never mind I've had a lot worse on the isle of Skye.

And very quiet here .....im the only van :)

Think I might need a siesta today myself

Good morning Judith....this is a much more civilised time ...fell back asleep for a bit thankfully but we are up now we've been out for morning wee wee's had our breakfasts and she's curled back up asleep again on the sofa.

Yes someone had mentioned these caterpillars the other day briefly but I'd forgotten so thanks for reminding me
, they had mentioned something about dogs sniffing them and things go up their nose or something is that correct?
Didn't know they were called procession caterpillars though but from those photos that makes sense.
I'm glad someone mentioned them because that's just the kind of thing I'd find interesting if I saw them so I'll avoid them now if I do.

This one has been an angel .... such a good girl it's hard to believe. She's even managed now to get up the step and in to the van which was a struggle for her but she has done it once now so she will manage again.

Still blowing a gale up here I do hope it buggers off lol

Yes we went to bed around midnight ..i put one of those wet pad things in her crate with her just in case but she slept through till around 5 or 5.30 and I then took her out for a wee when she whined.
Not sure if she whined cause she needed a pee or if she just wanted a cuddle but either way it meant that as yet she hasnt weed in the van which is something to be celebrated

In do hope she doesn't turn in to a nutter lol she's certainly more bouncy when we are outside but nice and chilled inside which is great

Oh no she hasnt
Oh yes she has. Get her ass off that couch. You need to think what will happen when you get back to Scotland and its raining heavily.

Things I need to address though

Lead walking she's a weird one , if I have the lead in my right hand she wants to go on the left if I have the lead in the left she wants to go on the right ....which means muggins keeps falling over it. .....need to sort that

And the crate ...... we are gonna have to compromise somewhere on this , she seems to like it enough that she goes in it herself , when I put her in it she's fine and she travelled and slept in it no bother. But during the day when I'm here she just wants to lie up beside me on sofa or on the floor so I'm thinking maybe I can fold the thing away during the day unless travelling.

Cause it doesn't half take up some space

Might have to trial and error on that

Aww I don't mind her lying up here when there's throws covering everything. But she only gets up if I pick her up or invite her up

Even if you or she gets within 6" of them they also have the ability to 'fire' the tiny body hairs apparently.
Coming in contact causes acute swelling which is why with animals & small children it can be life threatening.
My friend lives in Orihuela & found an odd one on the patio- picked it up & deposited in hedge ,then went for a wee. Wife said she never seen it that swollen in all their married life & the hospital were in hysterics.

That is actually correct & how I was taught- lead in right hand ,through fingers of left ,with dog on left.
Or vice versa

If a dog sniffs them the caterpillars have a defence mechanism of shooting hairs into the dogs face. They can be blinded if they go into their eyes. If they get them in their mouth they can cause their tongue and throat to swell so they choke.

Spanish dogs seem quite savvy, don't know why, but a baby might be intrigued. Just keep your eyes peeled. We did see a couple of the nests (also to be avoided cos they are contaminated with hairs) at the bottom of the road you're on now, near the barbeque areas. Don't get paranoid though just keep Jade where she's safe.

Yep thats the way Blue was taught at dog training. All dogs were trained wearing a choke chain too.

Those throws aint gonna be dry in Scotland is all I'm saying.
Aye I know ....but shed be getting dried before or as soon as in the van ....im hoping she's gonna stay small enough to be wrapped entirely In a bath towel lol
