Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

Quiet day today ...i moved from the nature park this morning to murcia city ....on an aire on the outskirts of town which is a section of a retail park basically. Lots of shops bars and restaurants so spent most of the afternoon looking around there ...nrarly bought a ladder to get up on frankies roof then decided not to bother as it's just something else to carry around that I probably wouldn't use much ( I'm getting better ) ...then spent the early evening chatting with neighbours over a beer or 5 ....just got back to franky I'm starving and realised I've nowt quick and easy to cook lol

Wish I'd eaten out now but I'll survive.
Gonna get up sharp tomorrow and cycle in to the city for a looksee.
It's not the prettiest of aires this and there's quite a lot of vans here but it's quiet and handy for the city and has all services on it so can't complain. .. vans are also parked nose to tail instead of side by side so lots of space. So I'll stay here a few days to give me time to explore around )

Don't you mean to get down off the roof when your posey rooflight has shut you out.:D2
Funnily enough I've just bought one of those collapsable ladders that I have bought with me on this trip.

Ha ha well I don't have my ladder to get up through the rooflight with me either.
I was tempted with this one as it collapses quite small but extends to 4 metres ...but I reckon it weighs around 20kg.
I saw the same ladder back in javea for 165€ and it's for sale here at 49€ hence the temptation.
I only need in the roof to clean my skylights etc so not sure if I really need one or not lol and it's just something else to carry

You could go in to town on the tram ?

What a lovely day out in murcia city ...sey off around 10.30 this morning cycles down there parked the bikes up and went for a look around. It's a very beautiful city the cathedral is stunning and lots of loveky squares and restaurants etc . I was knackered walking around it all so stopped and had lunch in a wee restaurant by the Roman theatre, I tried traditional murcia stew which was lovely followed by a cake I can't spell or pronounce but it was a lovely layered chocolate. Then had another walk round and had an applepie ice cream mmmmmmm.

Great pics - gives us a good feel for what is there to see.

I personally do not like Baroque or any over-ornate decoration, sculputured or painted, but I liked the gallery in pic No. 8 with the vaulted ceiling and pillars - it reminded me of Durham Cathedral, which is one of my favourites because it is simple but majestic. I lived within 100m of it for a year. Somehow the City and County Palatine of Durham captured part of my soul, which is still there - I may well spend some of my last years in the area - Durham, Teesdale, Seahouses, Percy Country, Holy island.

Sorry, rambling off-topic from Tam's Spain trip.

Come on Tam give us some idea of what has grabbed you most about you trip so far - views, architecture, food, people-watching? And which places would you go back to, and which not? Not Alicante we know - nor would I.

Too many questions ....im on holiday :p

I don't know to be honest it's too early to say yet ....therea been a lot of places I found nice and I'd perhaps go back some time , a few I'd consider living there if I could find work and afford to. There's been some places that are really not that nice and I would never go back but what I've discovered is its very much each to their own , everyone's taste varies
There's a lot of things I like about Spain the food , the climate , the coast is beautiful and in the green areas of the mountains it's lovely but there's a lot of barren places, run down places and a lot of poverty which is a shame.

The architecture is outstanding in some places , really beautiful but then I've always liked a bit of carving whether it's in stone wood or a nice leg of lamb

As for people watching that's fun wherever you go ....motorhomers being the strangest out of the lot ha ha

Took a wee ride out on the scooter to visit " castillo de monteagudo" it looked impressive but sadly you can no longer get to the top as the stairway etc is all closed off and wrecked. Which was a bit of a disappointment but I took a few pics of what I could get to

Thanks for your reply(post 1937) That will do for now. Maybe later we can have a private more in depth exchange, maybe when you get to somewhere you want to stop for a few days.

Meanwhile you are living my dream so I shall keep following your trip.

Thanks for all the postings and photos.

Keep trucking lad.

Geoff

Another one if those big trucks this time a man 18 tonner with a converted box on the back.
Struggling to see the point with this one as the box is about the same size as franky but that'll do about 8mpg and it's a bugger to climb in to

The type of Moho you are driving has already shown you its limitations on soft surfaces , so would be totally out of its depth when traveling anywhere off tarmac , these converted trucks are for going on from where the bitumen ends , and for long periods between facilities . As it says Different strokes etc .

Lovely area Geoff and probably our favourite part of the UK. Once spent a week in a cottage on Holy Island and in the evenings, when all the day trippers had left, it was quite magical.

Richard.

Yeah the army one the other day I could see that ( apart from him telling me it was useless of road and he was bogged down to the axles on the isle of Skye and had to be recovered) but this one has normal tyres etc and is semi automatic. It's the same unit we had on our rigid wagons at work and they were brought to a halt In a little snow.

I'm just not convinced that they ate any advantage. ...i mean this one has been back and forth for ages today trying to get level.

Seems a lot of expense and poor economy to me.

But as you say it's each to their own

So I moved on from Murcia this morning and headed back to the coast for a change of scenery ...currently on "La manga" will stay here tonight at least.
I've found a wee spot nect to the beach which Is strange i have the sea 15 metres on one side and 20 metres on the other side ha ha ....bit it's quiet here like a ghost town ....and right on a sandy beach.
It's a Shame it's not as sunny or warm as it's been the last few days

Well that was a bit nerve wracking after a morning of exploring all the nook's and crannies of the coastline down from la manga I arrived in cartagena .....i managed to bring the centre of town to a complete standstill by following the satnav and as the streets got narrower I found myself in a square with only one exit which I'd never have got franky down.
Fortunately a helpful policeman stopped the traffic helped me turn around and then walked in front of me back up the one way street is came down till we could get a street big enough to exit.

So I'm now a few km outside of town having a spot of lunch then I'll go explore by bike or scooter.

Found a couple of really beautiful spots on the drive down that you could overnight at but very remote and no internet signal etc.
Here's a few pics.

Hi Northernraider
Our paths almost crossed in Jan when we were at Camping Tauro in Benicassim. We are not far from you again ,close to Mazarron and can recommend this wild spot that we are using. It is at the Erosiones de Bolnuevo right on the beach with room for many vans..On the edge of the small town with plenty of bars and restaurants .We probably stay over this St Patricks Day weekend. Some pics.Typing this using our chairs on the beach, just starting to get overcast.Been nice sunshine mostly.Thats my wife Glenda on right at Paella afternoon here in town.
