Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

If your Mum is getting awkward its something to watch as they can get into the frame of mind that its all too much hassle and they have had a good run and don't want to fight anymore ! I have seen it happen a couple of times. I am not trying to increase your worry just give you a heads up @Northernraider

Best wishes for your mum Tam. Can you take her some treats in to eat? Chocolate, cake, nice biscuits? (Assuming she's not diabetic of course ).
Doesn't like chocolate or cake ( she's a fussy bugger )
To be honest she won't eat anything sweet at the minute, she wanted spicy stuff ...we've all been taking in different things and still doesn't eat it , hospital giving her drinks with supplements and she won't drink them , she's hiding tablets , throwing them on floor etc.

To be honest without sounding like an unsympathetic sod she's driving us all mad

There's a limit to what the staff can do she has to also try and help herself and she isn't doing it.

Even today I've had a text asking for fizzy juice to be taken in
We've been through every flavour there is she takes one sip screws her face up and doesn't drink it ...
The kitchen staff are even making her special meals trying to get her to eat and still won't eat it , keeps saying she feels sick but then she won't take the anti sickness meds either.
Potassium is low , she's knackered and still in pain and she's worse than she was when she went In but while she's of sound mind they can't force her to eat or to take the meds.

Sister got on to her the other night they had big fall out and I was telling her off last night but it makes no difference.

It's frustrating and annoying she won't get out if she doesn't get better and she isn't going to get better doing what she's doing

No - you don't sound unsympathetic at all. Elderly parents can drive you mad!

We had the situation where mother-in-law was getting medical letters at home, and because of her memory issues she didn't know what they were for or why she needed to see anyone, so she would ring up and cancel the appointment. Then one of the family would see the letter at her house, know what it's about and say to her that we'd arrange to take her - she's forgotten that she's cancelled it by then so she agrees to go.

So, we'd take time off work - turn up at the house and of course she's forgotten about it again and may or may not be in - take her along, only to be told that it's been cancelled and they'll have to rebook and send another letter out.

So the letter arrives, she doesn't know what it's for and the cycle begins all over again!

Drove us nuts for a while! NHS refused to redirect her post to family as her issues were not deemed to be sufficiently advanced.

You're quite right, your Mum has to want to help herself. No way round that one.

Tam feel sorry for you and Mum. Would she try Mcvitie digestive biscuits ( only Mcvitie no other brand) they can help with sickness.

Sometimes the sickness medication can be causing the problem and make her feel weary.

Jade won’t win any competitions in that outfit, sorry.

Tam can her tablets be crushed and mixed with a biscuit she likes?

Oh dear Tam. Sounds like you've got a battle on your hands with mum. What about yogurts, custard, steak pie? (Not together).

Get a Great Dane - their bellies never get troubled by the snow!! ;)

I dunno she was only 3 months when I got her and in Murcia I don't think shed experienced anything like a Scottish winters gonna throw at her lol.

If she was born outside last winter near Totana she would gave been born into cold weather. January was mild but Feb/March were cold. "She'll be reight enough" animals don't usually feel the temperature like we do.

Fetch us getting better, hate my voice in this so ignore it lol

I had a Greyhound that could overtake a ball thrown using one of those sticks. His problem was brakes - he used to pass it like in a cartoon with arse in the air & feet digging clods whilst the terrier that went at the same time collected the ball & brought it back.:D

Honestly believe me when I say we have tried everything ...She jist won't give it a try.
I was there tonight trying to get her to eat dinner ..1.5 spoons of soup that was it never even touched the main course which actually looked lovely.
Won't eat anything sweet

Spends most of the time loudly criticising the staff and talking about the other patients which is extremely embarrassing.

At least she took most of her tablets tonight which is something but she's still got catheter in as she refuses to go to the toilet.

It's upsetting and frustrating and I can't see how she's going to get better

Everytime you say anything to her I jist get told to be quiet or comments like is it not time you were going home etc

She has always been a lousy patient when Ill but at the minute shes like an older version of the girl from the exorcist lol

She still has her sense of humour though she sent me this pic 5 minutes after I left

Picture is priceless......:Eeek:

Yeah the picture was hilarious

I have to say though I don't know how people manage to have their ass hanging out like that. I always feel a draught at my back and I'm constantly tucking my shirt in.
These folk must be numb from the waist down.

That poor woman he's visiting was in a car accident and sustained a brain injury
The first day I was visiting mum she was being spoon fed etc and under 24 hour observation.
As you can see in that pic she's now up sat in a chair looking way better :)

If only my mum would start to look better

So my busy bodying around Toby today has resulted in me being booked in for a new windscreen next week as there's a few chips in it and one has started to crack ( I'd rather have it done now than in Europe somewhere )

And also today I removed the other 2 rooflights cleaned and resealed. The mk push up one in the bathroom I'm not sure if it's original or not but it's in good condition so decided jist to reseal and refit it at the minute but I may change it to a different style at a later date ( I'm being tight just now cause not working yet )
I also carefully managed to remove the lid of the non opening vent above the shower which was full of spiders webs and dead flies etc so I got that all cleaned out too.

Also cleaned the flue for the fridge as it doesn't get very cold but it wasn't that dirty so I think I may need s new burner and jet fitted.

I'm still not overly impressed with the water pressure from taps and the kitchen one always seems to have air In it so I'm gonna investigate that some more

Well they transferred mum back to the Vic in kirkcaldy today.

I was in visiting her tonight and she's back on the same ward as before but in a side room on her own at the minute. Not sure if that's a good thing or not as she might get bored but she also can't comment loudly about other patients so time will tell.

She seemed in reasonably good spirits and I managed to get her to take her tablets tonight and she ate most of a baked potato so a bit better than yesterday..

She fell asleep not long after so I sat for about 45 minutes with her and then thought best just to leave her sleeping.

Evening Tam, we seem to have a few things in common but currently we mostly share 'difficult' mothers

the expression 'doing my head in' has never been so fitting or well used, my mother the other day asked if her alarm pendant still worked, we told her it will but we would ring the office in working hours and carry out a check, 4 hours later the council call to say the alarm has been activated, they have spoken to her but she wants one of us to come home

Bev goes, Mum does look grey, laid out on settee giving it full on 'I am dying mode' (her words not mine ) call doctor they say call ambulance, they arrive Bev goes out to bring them in, 1 minute later comes back in, Mum is now sat up with her coat and shoes on o_O

One big difference I am the only surviving child :( not quite what I planned for my retirement

Also on a lighter topic, I noticed the number of replies and more the number of views of this thread, almost a year old and if I can still do mental maths correctly it has been viewed on average 1,000 times a day, respect to you for such an engaging thread (y)

Only problem for you is now, it has put you on one the list of funsters I would like to meet next year (y) so get running

Thanks David I'm glad I'm not the only person that at times feels he wants to throttle his mother lol.

Don't get me wrong I love the old dear but it's honestly like dealing with a petulant child at the minute.

I never knew that about the amount of views on this thread how did you see that?

I only use my mobile phone to access fun so I think half the features don't show.

There seem to be quite a few features that only appear on laptops or maybe iPads but not phones

I am on phone now and can’t see them o_O

Edit try turning screen round this thread is at 350,000 + views since started 11 months ago or so

Hope mum picks up now . Sometimes being in a room is easier as you can sleep better.

Yes it might help ...just worry she might be bored.

But will see how she gets on I'm sure she won't hold back telling us if she ain't happy lol.

I’m sorry your mum isn’t behaving herself but being ill is no fun and she’s probably fed up with being in Hospital!
Thank you for your concern for me.

I loved the pic of Jade in her coat. If you put it on her just for a few mins a day she will get used to it, extend the time she wears it slowly and you’ll find if she wears it out in some foul weather she will realise it helps.

G hates her fleece but if the weather is c...p she puts up with it, as for a harness.....!
Everytime I want to put the harness on her she tries to hide, when I trick her she stands still until it’s on then she runs-anywhere just runs, once she’s calmed down & the lead is on she’s fine!
You can’t even talk about it, as soon as she hears the word ‘harness’ she’s off!

Good luck with the van screen!
