Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

On another note the vet also did full blood tests on jade checking for things like leishmans etc and everything came back perfect which is good

Nice healthy puppy

Good luck with the clutch Tam.

We are in Portugal, other than Santo antonio and Tavira, we've not been that keen on the Algarve (bit too touristy and British!) but have really enjoyed the Atlantic coast up to Lisbon.

I think you will enjoy Portugal. We have been going there since 1979! Now fortunate to have a wee place there.
I like the people, generally laid back and friendly. Most people go to the Algarve, but as @JJ would probably confirm, the real Portugal is middle and north. Great food, great wine, great people, what more could you want...The ladies are quite pretty too.:D:D;);)
Yes I'm looking forward to it ..again I've never been but I've heard a lot about it so I look forward to exploring it.

Is English speaking more common there ?
Because although I've been learning some Spanish I still struggle but I know zero Portuguese:(

We've managed fine Tam, even with an unscheduled trip to A & E.

They are all very friendly and sooo laid back..

Good luck with the clutch Tam.

Yes I'm the same I love beaches and the coast Portugal looks a lot narrower than Spain so I plan to do similar and follow the coast but zig zag inland now and then to see parts of the country

Not so keen on the places with too much British influence ....broke my heart seeing how many scrappy fast food joints etc that have managed to take root here
Not to mention all the places doing full English breakfasts and steak pie lol ....i like to feel I'm in another country.

Although I confess the language barrier can be difficult ...i do try but sometimes it's really frustrating not understanding someone

I find Portuguese nearly impossible! Just make sure you know the basic phrases. When written it is ok,but when spoken it sounds almost like an Eastern European language...”S” is usually “sh”.
Bom dia.
Boa tarde.
Boa noite.
Obrigado.
Faz favor.
Lots of English spoken in Algarve and also up in Lisboa and Oporto, but out in the small towns and villages, obviously less so.
Enjoy!

You are going to love it..We've mostly parked for free in some stunning spots like above, the weather has been lovely, some cloud in the morning but gorgeous sunshine and a breeze for the rest of the day.

We've come back down to Lagos for a few days as our daughter is flying out to see us...Can't wait to head back up again although the marina is nice and very reasonable food and beer.

The breeze sounds nice lol ....i feel I've jist been coated in sweat the last 3 weeks
I like the heat but I have to confess when you can't escape it then it can be a nightmare

We loved Portugal last year too, but it did sound like we were in Russia with the language though... lots of wilding spots and very cheap camper stops... we had a great time in Coimbra meeting @JJ and @bobandjanie at the magic festival....

Portugal a pleasant surprise but the algarve was a tad too touristy...:)

Glad to see you are enjoying your trip. First I would check price of a clutch kit there,it might be a lot cheaper to get one sent from uk. Last January in Spain we met a motorhome with clutch problems and he had to wait a few days for parts and they charged him an awful lot more than UK prices. Good luck with it .

So the important things are all good Tam :
Jade has had her op.
She has a clean bill of health.
You have your good health.
You can't do anything about the clutch today - so worrying about it won't help.
Get on with enjoying today, tomorrow will come soon enough.

Losing the will to live today

I was parked in this quiet wee carpark in huelva centre last night mainly as it was handy for the shop and a laundrette about half a mile away.

This Canadian couple turned up last night in a hire van from Portugal ....i was chatting to them for a bit last night seemed alright folk.

Got up this morning took jade for a walk and when I come back the same couple are outside she's in a bikini washing herself in the sprinklers that's watering the grass , he's got a bbq outside in the carpark cooking breakfast ...table and chairs sat out lol

Couldn't believe it.

Anyway after fixing yet another puncture on the bloody bike I cycled to the launderette with my 2 bags of washing only to discover it was closed down ...obviously not updated the website.

So because I badly need to do a wash and because the Canadian couple are a red flag to being moved out the carpark I decided to head to a wee coastal town about 12km outside of huelva called El portil as they have a launderette

Finally get here after huge tailbacks ( not good for a slipping clutch) managed to find a nice spot ...loads my laundry on the bike again and goes to find laundry and guess what ...its bloody closed down too grrrrrrr

Not having a good day and I just know when I phone these places for clutch tomorrow that it's gonna be very costly and I'm going to have to wait days to get it sorted :(

Fed up just doesn't come close ....been carting all these damm tools around with me and the one thing that breaks on the van I can't fix myself ....

Yes I know your right ....

But it's easier said than done.
Hard luck Tam!
But stay positive -with the amount of clothes you have the laundry is not an emergency, just a tad irritating .
With my extremely limited mechanical knowledge STOP driving or the clutch will give up entirely!
Find a nice shady spot, sit down with Jade and a glass of wine and think how lucky you are.

Yeah the problem is with this heat I've used most of my cool clothes ie shorts and vest tops...too warm for much else.

I don't plan to move now till I've spoken with the garages hopefully I can stay here for a day or two if need be.

I do have my wee washing machine if need be it's just drying them that could be difficult but will see later.

I'm chuckling to myself, wrince the bare necessities through in the sink, wring them out by hand and rig a clothes line up in that vast Moho you have. Don't whinge, come on Tam, man up - i don't want to find that my hero has feet of clay and falls at the first hurdle!:(

Cant you find a nudist beach Tam?!?! Good luck with the clutch problem, just remember everything could be a lot worse. :D

Yes yes ok lol ...ill sort the washing out later ....cant help the worrying about the clutch as I feel ill be held to ransom by whatever garage ....bit I'll see what they say tomorrow.

It's a nice wee spot this I've found if somewhat busy today as it's Sunday and the locals are out In force. But it's reasonably cool in the van at the minute thankfully.

Jade seems contented she's lying in the shade and isn't panting so that's good

The beach at El portil....im parked overlooking it :)

Can think of worse places to have a clutch & clothes problem. Have a great day, tomorrow will deal with itself but wish you luck.(y)

If we can't hang our washing out we hang it in the garage and leave both doors open. Those little washing machines spin really dry... drier than an automatic, so your clothes should dry in no time.

Ha ha I can't get in my garage at the minute for the scooter and the bike.

But if I have to stay here a few days I can sort it tomorrow when it's quieter here.

i know this may sound daft or you would already have used it but have you no breakdown insurance.

Yes but I haven't broken down ....its still driving I just don't want to push it till it does breakdown as that always happens in the worst places. So I need to check out a few garages first then hopefully drive to them when they can do the job

well just had a quick ebay , clutch less than £100 if we are talking tranny.

Are well playing GTC (guess the clutch)?:)

I’ll go with €1850.00
I seriously hope not it's a 6/7 hour Labour job to strip out and replace plus cost of new parts which if its just clutch is under £300 but likely flywheel too so maybe £500 for parts.
But I expect some places will quote something horrendous like that

In which case lol I may be heading home :p
