Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

So after breakfast we had a wee walk round this lake where we met a couple of donkeys which jade wasn't sure of so I had to pick her up to stop her barking at them. Lovely spot where you could overnight if you wanted but I wanted to press on so we carried on past Granada...i was surprised that there's still loads of snow on the sierra nevada considering we are now in high 30's but there you have it.

I stopped at a repsol garage that has a motorhome service point so topped up the water dropped the waste and as it had a laundrette and a camper wash I got all my bedding and towels washed and dried and I washed the rest of franky whike I was waiting ...so she's nice and clean now :)
So a productive morning. ...ive stopped beside that reservoir again at beznar where I stayed before when I did the sierra nevada
Just here for lunch and a wee leg stretch then I think I'll press on to motril on the coast.

As much as I love the mountains and countryside I think I'm definately a coast seaside person ....probably explains why I've always holidayed on islands ....theres just something draws me too it and I like the hustle and bustle around those places.
If I can stay tonight at motril then I'm going to head up to roquetes de mar next where I stayed before and I might just have a week or so up there as getting fed up driving.

With young dogs it often seems that they are going backwards with the training. I'm with Golly in using the lead again for a short time to remind them what's expected. The important thing is to keep her safe. Mine are now three and fairly well behaved but I still keep them on leads when there's traffic about.

Regarding having her spayed, have you considered having her done before her first season? I know there are mixed views on this but we had ours done when we adopted a brother and sister at six months old, on our vets advice.
Sorry I missed this yesterday

I still use the lead with her the only time I let her off is if we are on a beach , in a park or out in the woods or something

I wouldn't trust her off it at any other time because she has zero road sense
She goes through stages sometimes she's good as gold and comes back but others she's a little ratbag and she runs and hides so she can snaffle any food she finds

She's obsessed with food not sure if it's because she was abandoned and perhaps had to fend for herself for a while but I think she would eat till she bursts.

I have considered having her spayed early , I have read that there's mixed views etc but to be honest if I had adopted her a month later she woukd have been done already because the refuge doesn't normally slow the dogs to be adopted before they are steralised.

I only got to take her early because I was travelling around and Sylvia knew someone ( @jumartoo ) from this forum.

Basically I need to get her done next month as I want to get in to Portugal mid July at the latest as I may be heading back to the UK earlier than first anticipated.

So whether she's had a first season on not I need to have her done then

What a difference in motril since I was here a couple of months ago.
It was dead then now it's heaving ....manages to get parked in the beach where that dog attacked jade. ...but all along the coast here is absolutely heaving.
Been for a walk now I'm leaving her inn the van for a sleep and I'm going to lie on the beach for a bit

Tsk tsk there's a Spanish motorhomer giving us all a bad name and dropping his grey in the very busy beach carpark

Love the Al Campo at Motril - had a few decent meals in there :) Jade is looking well :)

Not so good news today .....my sister phoned a wee while ago and told me mum had a wee stroke yesterday :(

She's apparently ok now though and has been let home from hospital today as everything seems to be back to normal at the minute.

Fortunately my sister was with her yesterday when it happened which was a bit of sheer luck as she only arrived back from her holiday yesterday morning.

She says mums speech had gone funny and she couldn't remember my sister , brother or myselfs names , she was very confused and her words all jumbled so they took her to a&e and they did scans etc and said it was a mild stroke , her blood pressure was through the roof and high cholestral but blood pressure ok today and she's back to normal except she's got more medication to take now for her cholestral .....managed to talk to her a wee bit on the phone and she seems ok thankfully as I got a right fright when my sister text then phoned.

She's been warned I want no fun and games while I'm out here I don't want to have to rush back in an emergency I don't want to even think how I'd do that.

A couple of years ago I'd have said my mum was invincible but the last 18 months things have really started to go wrong and it's hard to watch :(

Sorry to hear that, Tam. My mum died earlier this year, I travelled back to the UK to see her and got to be with her for a couple of days. I know this goes for a lot of people on here, but if there is anything we can do - anything at all - just ask.

Leaving family behind is perhaps the hardest part of the decision on whether to go away for an extended trip or not.

Glad she's ok and regarding a potential quick trip back to the UK just remember that once the van is all parked up and secure you are only a 3 odd hour flight home.

Hopefully it was a TIA which can be controlled with medication - my Mom had one a few years ago but no problems since. Fingers crossed.
My sister told me a name for it but I can't remember what she said ....but says she's back to normal today so hopefully nothing serious.

But I can't help thinking you don't get these things if there's not something wrong

Yes that's true not sure what I'd do with jade tjough

Sorry to hear your news. Always worth having Plan A or B when travelling for longer periods as to how to get home. Over the years travelling we have just turned around and headed for home. On other occasions we have left the van on a site and caught a flight home. Lots of inconvenience but something worth thinking about.

The moment when you realise your parents are not going to be with you for ever is heart-breaking. I still can’t quite believe my dad died last year ... my mums 85 and strong but moving her back to Scotland has been tough ... she needs a lot of support now. Here’s hoping your mum picks up Tam ... you maybe need to think who you could leave Jade with temporarily if you did need to fly back?

Tam

Sorry for your Mum and you and your Sister.

Seems OK this time.

We know similar could happen to us.

We are used to parking the MH up and flying home every few weeks - but that is with planned parking and flights, not emergency and spur of the moment. I think our action might be for me to drive Basia to an airport to get her home first, and I would stay to sort out MH and follow, but that is because it is her Mother and we are two.

For you it is different - your Mother and single.

Jade would be a problem. Maybe you should get her a pet passport soon, just in case, but flying a dog is expensive and not all airlines, especially low-cost, offer the facility.

I am sure Sylvia would have Jade, as a boarder, but that depends where you are, or arranging transport.

What you should do if the situation arises, for MH parking and Jade's care, is post the problem on all the forums you are a member of. I did this about a simple matter of transport and soon the problem was solved. There are many good people out there who will help.

Hopefully this minor stroke has alerted the medics and they will prescribe and monitor as necessary.

Try to relax now you know Mum is back to normal.

Geoff

So sorry to hear the news about your Mum, Tam. If it was a Transient Ischemic Attack then hopefully the effects will not be as severe as a full-blown stroke. It doesn't take away the worry for you though.
