Tam & co the great winter escape

Tam, are you still looking for a key for your Tacho? If you are, I have at last found my old one which your more than welcome too AND there is a plastic disc to go in the second mans slot IF you wanted that too.

Just PM me your address when you get back and I'll post them to you. Take care!
That would be great thanks ...you can post it on just now if you like as its my mums address anyway and ive other mail going there so it would be there on my return

I spoke to her about her insurance and said it might be worth checking with them etc but she doesn't have a lot of choices ...she doesn't want to drive home through bad weather and shes out of time in a few weeks. If she puts it in secure parking then it should be covered by their insurance for damage or theft surely.
I'm afraid that's not the case with most insurers as you're usually only allowed to leave it for a couple of days 'unattended' when away from home (with the exception of being in a garage for repair etc). She needs to contact her insurers and ask them, if they are willing to let her do it she may find she has to pay them an extra premium to cover the period she's away.

For your car what about if you were going on holiday for 6 weeks say and flying and leave your car at the Airport, sure you would be covered then but I do not think cars have any restrictions? Not sure about leaving it abroad though so maybe a different kettle of fish and worth checking with your insurer. I know our insurer says anything over a couple of days you have to let them know.

Sorry I should have said "away from home abroad", however saying that if you insure your car and say it is normally left at home overnight it may still be an issue ... it's not something I've every done with my car so have never checked it.

Thats for her van insurance. But at €140 storage fee I'm pretty sure the carparks insurance must cover losses or damage.

She doesn't want to ask her insurance company .. i already mentioned it too her. Up to her now

No one on the continent who could look after it for her?

She sure is a one off lady (y) (y)
Nothing seems to faze her.
Well impressed. (y) (y)

I suggested I fly out and take her place enjoying Greece with you, and meet up at another airport, 😉 but Janie said if anyone is going it's her, 🙄 well that's not going to happen 🤔 .......... me left with our demanding dog. 😁 Bob.

She's never done it before but plans to leave it somewhere for 5 weeks ....not sure id be keen but thats her plan

Sorry to say, when you store your van on a Camping & Caravan Club site, (possibly others) its on your insurance, not theirs and they will not accept it UNLESS it's insured, so Jackie had better check just in case?.

Never assume anything ... she needs to ask them to be sure.

It hopefully will be fine but the only way she'll find out for sure is if something happens to it whilst it's no in her 'care' ... the other thing is that if the company find out later once she's back with the camper it may actually void her policy as she hasn't informed them ... I would never take the risk with making assumptions about insurance.

We have left our van a couple of times once in Portugal, near Faro Airport.
we paid cash for the time to be stored and he took us to the airport.
1 Euro a day for 42 days.
He would also pick us up on our return, he said!
Wewere quite happy until on return to the uk, the farther in law ask certain questions that we had not considered.
This did put a certain concern in my head.
Then he would not answer our messages about our return and pickup, until we were due home, then he answered.
We got picked up and took back to the van.
He was so nice and suggested as it was late to stay overnight, then gave us the combination for the gate.

The next time was in Sardinia this time we did ask if we were insured and did all the checks, even scorned the van.
The difference was it was a lot more expensive, but whatcost for piece of mind.

I think it’s great to leave your van.
In Sardinia we then got the ferry to Corsica for another 6 weeks before travelling home.

All before the COVID carry on!

By sorning the MH you may 'not' have been covered by your insurance though as you're only 'legally' allowed to do that when it's back in the UK so not maintaining the requirement for it to be 'road legal' when away from home (or whatever the wording is), I believe a lot of people living in Eurpe 'under the radar' have done this but it's not a risk I'd take.

Look guys no disrespect but i mentioned to her weeks ago to speak to her insurance company and she hasn't and isn't.i learned a long time ago to mind my own business when it comes to women 🤷🏻‍♂️. I mentioned it ...i mentioned it again ...im not doing it a 3rd time she's a grown woman and not my responsibility. I said to her about following me in to Bulgaria etc she doesn't want to ... She also doesn't want to drive home in snowy conditions etc and in late January thst doesn't leave her many options so shes booked her flight etc and has got quotes for parking the van ...they vary from €70 to €140 . As far as im aware she has zero intention of speaking to her insurance company.

She bumped that van 3 times last year and the amount of water and other liquids etc she spills in it and the state its always in i wouldn't be able to sleep at night whereas she doesn't bat an eye ....i can only assume she doesn't care as much as most folk do ....its not my place to interfere. She will do what she needs to do i guess .

But i would have assumed if i paid for secure parking/storage that it would be secure so i think she'll most likely be fine ....and she will fly back out sometime in late march and drive home in better weather.

I've enough to concern myself with planning my own route and doing what i need to do regarding covid tests and border crossings etc .

Well said.

I met a couple last year in a uk registered van that came over to europe with it 8 years ago and it hasn't been back since ...dont ask me how they were doing it but they weren't the slightest bit concerned about it.

Like you its not something id do even with this cheap van im in this year but then not everyone thinks or acts like i do .

I think jackie said she paid nearly £70k for that California. She's that laid back at times i can only assume it wasn't her life savings.

She's gutsy thats for sure and quite stubborn too. Im not sure if its a case of she doesn't care or just isn't aware half the time but either way she does what she wants to do and she's survived this long. Yes i offer my opinion here and there and advise if i can but ultimately its her life eh ....

Look guys no disrespect but i mentioned to her weeks ago
Okay, we didn't know that .... it's up to her, you can only offer advice so many times and then have to let them get on with it, you can't help some people.

Refs Jackie's van might the old german lady Diana Hans you met at the vets know someone with secure place to store the van.

Wise words Tam.👍

I like Jackies approach to life, people here concerned about elf and safety, dotting i,s and crossing t,s and going nowhere whereas she doesn't appear to give a toss and just gets on with life.
Much admiration:Grin::Grin::Grin:

I assume you mean SORNed. Of course you are free to scorn your MH, but I prefer to respect mine :giggle:

Naughty boy! Legally to SORN the vehicle must be a GB vehicle, i.e. on GB soil. [I know DVLA do not require one to state where the vehicle is kept, as one DVLA officer pointed out to me on the phone ;)

That breach of the law could have had insurance implications had there been need for a claim.

Stopped in kiveri today for lunch and a walk around .... wasn't the best weather quite cold and drizzly ...then on to nafplion for the night as hoping to get ela's vaccination booster done here tomorrow . Met up with another uk solo female fulltimer who ive been chatting with a bit on Facebook ....so we all sat in my van for a coffee and a blether. Nice girl ...she has a converted movano minibus with a woodburner ....im well jealous lol. So we are all parked at the port in napflion ...theres about 15 vans here i reckon ...2 old mercs i follow on Instagram so hoping to meet them tomorrow too and have another coffee with Jen .... Have a walk around the old town etc , its not the most picturesque spot here but it is a nice meeting spot as quite popular with vans .

Im sure milo and ela are courting ...he seems quite smitten with her and always trying it on ...but she seems to be just as keen
