Tam & co the great winter escape

Yes i was told that with jade too and i remember some kids calling jade ...pero diablo a few times ...

Daft buggers
I wonder if it's somehow linked with Catholic beliefs or dogma? Only wondered as Spain and Portugal are predominantly Catholic countries? Maybe nothing to do with religion, I don't know.

between Ella & Lewis Hamilton I’ll be kept on the edge of my sofa today

huge day for both of them

between the rehabilitation of Ella & your restoration of the vario you
could never be accused of taking the easy road in life

I think you are becoming the saint of lost causes lol , St Tam 😇
Sorry Tam dog rescues are far more interesting than F1!!!🤣🤣🤣

I was thinking ( always a bad thing ) 3 dogs are a lot to deal with especially with your way of life , I know you’ve got attached & couldn’t leave her there , I’m sure it Would be difficult to let her go BUT what about you fostering her for now , I’m sure there are people on fun looking for a dog who would love to adopt Ella & they would cover your costs ,

you could save a new dog ever time you travel, you would really be St Tam patron of dogs

Ok so i cheated 🤷🏻‍♂️ i went for it and just picked her up and carried her in the van . She seems quite settled as do my two . Hopefully she will just settle down now and we will all just act as normal and see how we get on . But she's out of the cold and wet which its really chucking it down now ...the sea is wild .

Im going to cook dinner soon so she will get a nice meal with jade and milo . Ill have to try the collar at some point but plenty time for that
Tam, I still haven't caught up with all the thread BUT what has worried me since you said she was a puppy is, she appears to be about 2ft tall already, are you prepared for the fact that she may be as big as a Irish Wolfhound when she matures? I have a funny feeling, such consideration are well past there sell by date.😊

Similar markings/colouring to ours that we rescued in Portugal. We've been told by rescue centres in Portugal and Spain that black dogs are hard to rehome in Portugal and Spain, they're considered "devil" dogs, hence why so many are abandoned and are shipped off to the UK, Germany and Holland for rehoming.

We‘ve had people literally crossing the road to avoid Beech!

Yeah i think im too far gone now lol . But i think she may well double in size.

Have you shown Mum her new aquisition yet?:giggler:
Yes she follows my polar steps so she had seen all the pics over the last few days.....then she said i should adopt her 😁 ive learned to let my mum think she made the decisions lol

The cost of the dogs never entered into the question for us. We wanted to offer good lives to dogs who had no chance in Spain. It breaks my heart to look at the pictures of Gus in the Perrera.
How did anyone ever throw him out he just loves people.

Holy sheeeite though this dog can poop .... She done 3 huge piles . I think she must have been bagged up and the olive oil in the dinner last night has loosened her up. I did see her squatting yesterday a few times but nothing had emerged.
What did you expect she has probably never had so much food in a day before she met you.

We have moved now ....just a few miles down the coast nearer to kyparissia . It gets us away from all the other strays and hopefully will help ela settle in ...she was a bit nervous at first and ended up walking around on the floor while i was driving along the beach track but i stopped lifted her back on the sofa and there she stayed for the rest of the journey. Stopped for water , lpg and diesel and in to lidl for bread as we missed the baker this morning.

Arrived at a quiet little beach ...we are the only 2 here and so far no other doggies.

Ela still reluctant to come out the van so she's lying in there chilling out and jade and milo are exploring

Hey! Wait a minute, you've forgotten the caravan?? ( We can take a hint 😩) 😄

Tam

Has Ella actually walked up or down the steps yet?

Now she is relaxed in the MH maybe again try the trick of leaving the food in the middle of the floor, just far enough for her to need to climb the steps?

Just an idea.

Geoff(One of the many long-distance trainers for you and dog)

Yes she came in herself this morning after our walk .

Tam, when you finally let Ela off the lead make sure she knows you have some really high value treats in your pocket. When we went to dog training classes the trainer was a police dog handler/trainer and he used dried liver which certainly focused their attention.

Tis a noble deed you do young man.

What's all this Scottish wet weather winter gear you are wearing, I thought you were in Greece.:xrofl:
Aye its certainly been trying to make me feel at home. Nowhere near as cold though thankfully. And its nice today.

With regard Ella wolfing her food down (natural if she's been hungry all her short life), one way of slowing her down would be to bury 3 or 4 large, big river or beach pebbles amongst her food, obviously they have to be too big to be hoovered up accidently but pushing them around and rootling her food from around them would autonatically slow her eating down and be better for her digestion.
One can but dog bowls specifically for this purpose but pebbles come cheaper.
Also feeding her at a distance where she didn't feel threatened by the possibity of her food being stolen by one of the others would help her take her time a bit more.
I have to be careful with my two big ones as apparently getting "bloat" from bolting their food is quite a common cause of fatalities in the breed.

....another thought- until she has perfected her coming to call you could attach a 30ish foot piece of cord/rope to her collar that she dragged around behind her, so you could real her in if necessary whenever you call her. That way she could have greater freedom but never realise she could ignore you when out of reach.
Also as suggested earlier, make sure you always have a high value treat to reward her with for her prompt compliance.
As she becomes more confident your tone of voice or a belly rub will be reward enough but as yet that is still something to be learned.

We've just been out another walk ... I'm honestly astounded at how good she is ....she was brilliant on the lead this time ...not pulling not tangling me up ...only a few times ...i could even let her out on the full extension and she just happily went along...on the sand she was desperate to run around and play chase but im not confident in her coming back straight away yet. Still can't get her to come out the van i have to lift her and as soon as i put her down she tries to scramble back in ....ive no problem getting her in the van now lol .

We use a long tether for Minky, we did have a shorter lead which we left on her but we couldn't get close enough to stand on it, she happily runs all over with the long tether on and it doesn't bother her at all but even now we're still wary of taking it off her completely in case she does a runner - hubby takes all 3 out on his own so if she does he'd have a problem, does he stay with the other 2 or run after her?
