Tam & co the great winter escape

im not confident in her coming back straight away yet.
It is so tempting to let them go, I know from our experience with Minky, but it will take quite a while before you can do this, certainly not just a few days no matter how 'good' you think she's gonna be, she hasn't fully bonded with you as the pack leader yet and until that happens there's the risk she won't come back and after all this hard work that would be a real shame.

Our tether is a long strap type one so not too heavy and smooth so doesn't get snagged much, if you have some of the ratchet strap going spare that would be excellent.

Yes regardless of how tempting i won't be letting her off the lead for a few days yet ....i can't remember how long i waited before letting jade and milo off but it wasn't actually that long . Once i feel confident that she will come when called we will give it a go . She does tend to stick with the other 2 at the minute and would run with them if she could. Ive an extending lead and i think ive a long ratchet strap type tether somewhere in here . But the speed she can run id still not be comfortable letting her loose dragging that at the minute as i would never catch her thats for sure.

I think in a few days once she has adjusted we will see how things are . Hopefully she will be chipped and vaccinated tomorrow

Good luck, she looks a beautiful dog. It’s huge to let them off the lead for first time, I took months to let Faye off, but no problems at all. I hope she settles well. The vet visit might upset her a little, but I am sure she will soon settle in x

Tam, I've taken a screenshot of Ela on the sofa but I'll wait until you can get one of the three of them all together to send to Silvia.

I know she'll be so happy about the rehoming of another dog, even though it's not another one of hers 😥.

Fingers crossed 🤞🤞🤞 a suitable photo isn't too long coming, and the way things are going, it definitely won't be long 💜💕💜.

Aye if they all sit still long enough lol. Dogs are worse than kids to take photos of 🤣🤣

As regards the future size of Ela, I don't think you will have a problem as she looks very much like our Coco - a Swiss Laufhund - Running Hound. She is a 'Lucernois X'. At twelve years old she never grew much after the second year. But Boy can she run, as I discovered when I first let off the Lead..................

All the way to Greece this year and we get photos of dogs and hardly a castle in sight - hardly worth the subsciption!
Bare with me 😁 will be moving on tomorrow after the vet ...next stop gialova i think

She makes a good guard dog when traveling then, even if she would only lick someone to death.
She has an incredibly fierce, deep throaty growl and bark which is very reassuring when we are parked up at night or leave her alone in the van. When we were on the Figueira de foz aire the other day we were both sat with our headphones on at 9.30pm and Beech suddenly went mad by the time we got up to look outside there was no one in sight but Paul went out for a look around and there was a lady begging over by another motorhome so she obviously decided to give us a miss after hearing Beech 😂

We've just been out another walk ... I'm honestly astounded at how good she is ....she was brilliant on the lead this time ...not pulling not tangling me up ...only a few times ...i could even let her out on the full extension and she just happily went along...on the sand she was desperate to run around and play chase but im not confident in her coming back straight away yet. Still can't get her to come out the van i have to lift her and as soon as i put her down she tries to scramble back in ....ive no problem getting her in the van now lol .

Lol Beech is petrified of flies and ladybirds 🤷‍♂️

My parents had a black/tan with white bits dog. Medium build, but with a bark that would deter any would be thief. In the days of the Pop Man delivering, he didn't even get near the door before "Reg" heard him coming. The Pop man didn't dare to open the door, even though Reg was as daft as a brush!

Yes my 3 are the same ... whenever one goes near them they go cower in the cab ...its ridiculous. Milo has no fear when it comes to other dogs even ones that are 10 times his size ...but a fly in the van he's a nervous wreck ...ive to go around swatting them all before they will come back the van. I thought ela might be different as she was used to them but nope ... now all 3 squeeze themselves in to the cab lol.

Ela has a good deep bark ...i think that will be a bonus later . Although ive not heard her bark once the last 2 days ...not since the last time they were all at it

She probably will bark when she knows she's defending her home and family 😊

Judging by her paws i think she might fill out a bit and perhaps get a little taller but i don't think she will double in size ...... hopefully.

I spotted one on a greek rehoming profile that looks like a younger version of her ...and when smaller very big paws

It’s wonderful to see how she’s progressing!

Apologies if this has already been covered but I’m wondering what paperwork you need to bring her home?

Not wanting to get out of the van my be the fear that she won't be allowed back in............ just a thought
Yes that has crossed my mind .... can't help but wonder if maybe someone else had her inside then put her out ....or if she's been with someone then dumped .

Who knows 🤷🏻‍♂️ but she has nothing to fear , and i keep telling her that

Well nothing bar the wrath of jade when she tries to eat her leftovers ....theres a mexican standoff in here at present. ....

Just a passport , microchip and prokf of rabies vaccination ..but im also having all her other vaccines done too and having some blood tests done just to make sure she's not needing anythig treated.

Will need a second jab for dhpp a month later.

I wont get her spayed just now as she wont be out my sight anyway ....ill wait and have her done later.

Then she's good to go

Hilarious, exactly the same here she hides in the foot well and we have to eliminate all the big bad flies for her majesty.

I never knew flies were a thing until this year, chatting with a fellow traveller who said she hated leaving her dog alone in the van in case a fly got in, just thought she had an odd dog as they have never bothered mine, I get more agitated than they do!
That spot at Elea was particularly bad ...jackies van is full of them as she sits with the side door open all the time.ive no flyscreen on my door so i try to keep it closed as often as possible but i still had around half a dozen in here ....dogs hate them.

No mosquitoes at elea though at least. Im not keen on them myself as they seem to enjoy annoying me so i usually have a tea towel out swatting the buggers.

I find great satisfaction by swatting them with one of those electric tennis racket lookalike thing, 😀

Another vote for her having been dumped from a vehicle. You are doing a brilliant job with her hope all goes well at the vets.

Have followed all your adventures. Don’t always agree with some of your views, but you have a kind heart. Ela will be a great addition to the family. You will have to stop travelling or get an even bigger vehicle than the one you are converting. Working with dogs is your calling in life.

Mine just try and catch them as they fly past, the snapping of jaws is often the first I know about a flying insect being around us!

I stayed near La Rochelle a few years ago and it was particularly bad, when I mentioned it my mum she said don't you remember all the flies when we went there in 1970 something, all I knew was we stayed on a golf course in France when I was very little!

Im thinking a trailer 😁
