Tam & co the great winter escape

Tam I don't post often but love following your thread, just caught up what a beautiful dog she is, she did well picking you I'm sure you will get so much pleasure with your new companion.
Looking forward to following your progress.

P.s i know this post was in jest .. but rescuing a dog is never free .

By the time ive paid for all her injections, blood tests and passport ill be a few hundred Euros lighter . Not to mention ongoing expenses including sterilisation.

But is she worth it ....damm right she is .

She's already showing gratitude ...im getting nuzzled and licked 😁

She may even help me lose weight ....either by eating the left overs i normally ate or just by costing me so much in food ill not be able to feed myself 🤣🤣🤣😘
When I lost one of my Ridgebacks last year, I looked at puppies, because my other one was very lost, they were between £3000 - £3500, not from top breeders, just family homes where i had previously paid 550 and 600.

Everything has a value in my head, no way would I pay that and even if I were a millionaire.

£600 each for our rescue dogs from Spain. This includes the cost of vaccinations, health checks, sterilisation, passport, transport and import costs. Since Brexit, there is a nominal £20 import duty to pay on rescue animals from the EU. There has also been an increase in the amount of paperwork/documentation which the transporters have to deal with and the costs of this have, naturally, been passed on to the adopters.

The cost of the dogs never entered into the question for us. We wanted to offer good lives to dogs who had no chance in Spain. It breaks my heart to look at the pictures of Gus in the Perrera.

So Tam, dogs have all got somewhere to sleep, guess your outside under the van?!?!:xrofl::xrofl::xrofl:
Im just wondering how on earth im going to make the bed up ...jade and milo are used to the routine now but ela is not going to have a clue whats going on . It should be interesting to say the least. Not sure yet if she'll want to sleep with us or on the floor in a bed .. . Could be an interesting night.

What a lovely dog, she seems settled i now. She reminds me of the doberman we had back in the 80's Voss would claim his seat :giggle: , loved that dog.View attachment 565371
When i first saw her thats what i said to Jackie ...she was like a doberman ...but mostly due to her colours

Surely you can squeeze into the gap between the bench seats, on the floor :xrofl:

well the Coonhound puppies which I am pretty sure Ela is are anything between £2,500 - £4000 here in uk as they are few and far between .

Really ....hmmm 🤔 that's almost my electrics for my vario 😉

Ha ha just kidding .....although having just watched her drink the whole bowl of water in one go i might need a bigger water tank too.

What have i let myself in for

Might be a bit damp in there in the morning. :xrofl:
Yeah im worried about that as just took her out on the lead to go for a pee and that didn't go well ....first off she didn't want to come out the van . Then she wasn't used to the lead or colour so proceeded to just charge back and forth trying to get loose ...so shes not done anything . Think ill sleep in my clothes tonight incase i get woken up abruptly .

The joys

Bless her, she probably thought she was getting kicked out for the night.

Did you take Jade and Milo at the same time? I know that wouldn't be the easiest but at least she would feel like you were all together still.

Yes they went out as normal but only she was on the lead. I did think she might think i was kicking her out ...i hate that but it will take her a few days to realise this is her new home. But i had to lift her out and back in again . Im glad i adjusted the collar as she was trying to get out of it when she panicked. But alls well now ... hopefully i don't wake up in a puddle lol.

You could try putting them all on leads, that way she'll see that it's not anything to be concerned about as she'll be able to observe what they do and hopefully copy them.

Well its now 4.30am ....we went to bed around 11pm . I haven't slept a wink .. i can't switch off . Wheras these 3 crashed out almost immediately and ela hasbeen dreaming and snoring , i get the occasional nuzzle and lick . Gonna be knackered today .

Yeah and i will never ever understand that when so many strays needing homed.

Breaks my heart .

Thus is so true, my cousin late 60s tried to adopt a pair of best friends from a rehousing centre, so many hoops and she was eventually refused, even though they'd been waiting for 6 months with no offers. She had to buy a couple of puppies. No checks at all, just give em the dosh. A real shame, its probably easier to adopt a child.
We have always said we couldn’t understand people adopting from another country when there are so many rescued dogs in the U.K. looking for homes.
We recently tried with two rescue centres. Amongst other things, our back garden - half an acre and 90% surrounded by hedges with removable gates at the house end of the drive - is too big and at the very least we must put 6’ high pig netting all the way around the hedges, but ideally we should create a smaller area close to the house with 6’ high fencing.
Consequently we have been discussing doing exactly what Tam has done at some point when we’re in Greece next year. An added dynamic is it would also need to be comfortable on a boat……..🤔

Ella looks like a lovely dog and very comfortable in the van. Best of luck with the house training!

Well no messes thankfully ....i never slept a wink all night so im knackered this morning. Had to lift ela out again as she wouldn't come out on the lead ....then she dragged me about a bit and managed to pull the lead out my hand ........off she went like black beauty across the field .

I went after her and it was only by sheer luck that the lead had got caught on thorn bush that i got hold off it . Had to carry her most of the way back ....then put her down and coaxed her in to walking a bit ....she came over and climbed straight in to Jackie's van 🤷🏻‍♂️ can't get her to come out on the lead .. she's still in there with jackie till i came and got a coffee as my head not work without caffeine.

She was trying to chew my hands this morning too so i think she's still teething .

Just having a coffee then going to attempt to take her a walk with my 2 .....scared to let her off lead incase she doesn't come back so it might be quite a difficult walk as she's quite strong . Hopefully coaxing with food will work

Similar markings/colouring to ours that we rescued in Portugal. We've been told by rescue centres in Portugal and Spain that black dogs are hard to rehome in Portugal and Spain, they're considered "devil" dogs, hence why so many are abandoned and are shipped off to the UK, Germany and Holland for rehoming.

Well we have been for our walk ....not bad really ...she did the usual constantly switching sides to tangle me up but otherwise done great....poor thing is desperate to get off and run with jade but im not confident enough yet to let her.

Holy sheeeite though this dog can poop .... She done 3 huge piles . I think she must have been bagged up and the olive oil in the dinner last night has loosened her up. I did see her squatting yesterday a few times but nothing had emerged.

Back in the van now and shes got back on the sofa with all the grace of an elephant lol .

But looks content
