Tam & co the great winter escape

Bloody fresh water tank fell off today 🤦‍♂️ went over a rail crossing and i think that must have done it ....of course i never noticed as i was rocking out to neil young playing like a hurricane so i drove a mile or so trailing it under the bloody van ...the crappy straps they had fitted it with have snapped ...so its currently in the van . But i will have to find a way to tie it up or fit it on bike carrier as its in the wayView attachment 563286
Shouldn't give it a funny or laugh but couldn't help it, just the image of it being dragged behind.
Do you use it ?

I did use it yeah but only for coffee , cooking and washing up as can't use the shower.it is a pain though .

I did wonder what people were staring at but i often get that anyway ...it was the trail of water i noticed first

Well i came to Olympia ...had lunch and then went to have a look ..walked the km or so from carpark to the gate and they dont allow dogs in 🤷🏻‍♂️ so that will be that ... didn't look that great anyway.

Another stupid rule ...its a big grassy field with some stones in it ...what harm could 2 small dogs on leads possibly do.

No idea but for this size of van its now €30

The ferry is €11

I think last year it was €26 but i used the ferry then too
Last time I went over in a car (2015) it was €17, ferry is the way to go if you're not in a desperate hurry.

Olympia site isn't great anyway and the area is less than inspiring, museums not too bad though.

Hi Tam, bit late to the party, loving your trip..
Katakolo might be nice and quiet this time of year as there are no cruise ships about..
37.64761 21.3173
Kaiafa springs might be worth a look too..
37.51905 21.60291
..or a nice little park up at Tholo by the sea..

Or are you heading to Elea again?

Pete

Sorry to hear about your water running away, drastic way off losing weight but you can now adopt another couple of dogs
Seriously though you are a resourceful guy, good luck.

You need a roll of that galvanised perforated strip to refix it + some bolts.https://www.heiz24.de/Perforated-st...lXBQ7rikhz4Az8j5wDlLK40_ytKFPB10aAmrHEALw_wcB
Yeah thats what it was on with but has rusted through. Ive got 2 bungee cords holding it up for now till i find a hardware shop to get a couple of ratchet straps. The tap has broken off it too so i won't be able to use it now anyway. Fortunately i carry a couple of spare containers of water anyway so ill just have to manage with those.

Why can't you use the shower?

...apart from the lack of a water tank obviously 🙄
The shower tray is all cracked and broken. But i don't think its ever been used in the past either but i could use it outside through the window like i did in Croatia ... but not now

Sorry I had a laugh too..😆
But it was the way you wrote it😀
Its cool i knew when i wrote it folk would find it funny ....i kind of did myself when it happened and in truth im surprised it lasted as long on the roads ive been on lately

So after Olympia i headed back to the coast and im now at volakas ....jackie is here also and a german girl with a wee vw caddy and a french family .

A family of dogs here too that jackie has been feeding ... Shes actually cooking them dinner 🤣🤣🤣

Ive managed to tie the tank back in place for now with 2 bungee cords but the first hardware shop i see ill try to get either ratchet straps or some steel strapping. Unless i can find a drain tap for it though i wont be able to use the tank as the tap obviously broke off when it fell as ive just the hole where it was.

Not a big drama it just means ill have to fetch water more often as ive only a couple of water cans ....an 8 litre and a 5 litre ... plus a couple of 2 litre bottles in the fridge. I might pick up a larger one in a hardware store just for easiness.

Just for your info most Europeans use the same pipe threads as uk they may give a metric size but it will match ours if the hole in you tank is threaded and most are you can just put a plug in for now
You may still have the male thread in the hole if it snapped show me a photo I will tell you the best way to get it out

i'd be wary of any of the cheap chinese ratchet straps. Web frays just looking at them.
Tank lid comes off so all you need is a flanged threaded stub with washer either side & nut + a valve to thread on.jobs a good un.

Its just a 25mm hole ...no threads

just looking at your photo again it looks like a push fit elbow ?
Thats the filler end . The hole is on the other end of the tank ...it just had a drain tap in it ...25mm hole left. I might find something in a hardware shop.

Cheap ratchet straps should be fine to hold an empty tank till im back home. If i manage to find something stronger ill do that but at the minute i just need it secured and stored out the way.

I am told that the water tank actually sang to Tam as it dislodged..............

You are like a hurricane
There's calm in your eye
And I'm gettin' blown away
To somewhere safer where the feeling stays
I want to love you but I'm getting blown away
