Tam & co the great winter escape

Im left wing 😉
Hmmmm one has to be careful here, i am a member of the Ducati community forum and no one has ever been banned as that was one of the reasons to start it 2 years ago, everything goes there and the banter is quite something, you need a thick skin but it’s great that people can just express themselves without having the constant threat of being banned👍

If you hadn't have been a naughty boy you wouldn't have a problem.
I would because it is still the same people's comments that get left while others get removed. There is not 2 sides allowed on here 😉

The decisions of the last 10/12 years have impacted my life , my families lives and my friends lives and the future decisions promised will do more.

I share most of my life on here and people seem to like it ....but im not allowed to express my opinion on the political decisions that's impacted it 🤷‍♂️

To me that seems unfair.

These are 91% fish , i bought them for me initially but im not keen. But they are getting binned now anyway. View attachment 638477
According to that ticket they are 125% fish don't know how they fit the other stuff in
91% fish of which was 35% fish protien was how i read that.

But anyway they weren't nice. Dogs enjoyed the few they had but not sure if its what caused the trots or not.
91% fish of which 35% protein

It is a weird way of wording it though

You're all reading it wrong it's 35% Surimi fish protein only with 91% of that 35% being made up of the Hake protein, so in effect roughly 30% of it is just processed crap that's got any relationship to fish, the rest is just crap - I could work it out exactly but I've gotta go grease my chassis!

Thats why we have a nation of people with obesity ,diabetes etc

Because the labelling is still confusing as hell

Tam this is a great forum and the way it works keeps it that way, there's nothing like political discussions to cause rifts between members, that's the reason why it isn't allowed. You weren't here in the earlier days when there were some right spats and fallings out and Jim sensibly moderated them. Whilst I sometimes wish I could comment more specifically on political events that last thing I, and many others want, is to fall out over something which we have no control over.

Not that hard to avoid processed food but often involves having to do proper cooking also often works out a lot cheaper.

Yeah and i appreciate that ...but its frustrating at times.

Every thread on here causes a divide in some ways , campsites versus Flt

Dogs v kids
Big vans v small vans
Sliding doors v hab doors etc
Its the same with politics then as it affects everything in life in some way.

I don't actually comment that much on political stuff ....but i do on things i feel have impacted my life and people i care abouts lives drastically.

And its more than just Brexit stuff.

Well i do proper cooking within my abilities. But some of the labelling is not great. And i think im reasonably intelligent without any disabilities like dyslexia etc. Those with problems must really struggle to understand them

Its also a case of those on low incomes not being able to afford healthy foods etc.

I know ive noticed a 40% increase in my shopping bill the last 5 weeks while im trying to eat healthy stuff and not junk

I could actually buy takeaway every day for less

I don't agree with that as most processed foods work out more expensive, they are just more convienant for people who can't be bothered to cook.

I agree with the shopping bill going up even eggs in Lidl, the ones I buy have gone from £1.59 to £1.75 for ½ doz.
We buy strawberries and raspberries often twice a week which puts the shopping bill up.

Lenny my food bill has been £20-25 a week for the last few years when im home. The last 5 weeks its £65-75 🤷‍♂️ and i struggle to buy stuff that has long enough dates that i can only shop once a week. I find it hard work to eat healthy.

A chippy is £5.00 - 10.00 depending what you buy , most suppers are under £6 bar fish or chicken, pizza around £7- 8
So i could buy a takeaway for dinner every night and still spend roughly the same. And thats including breakfast and lunch too . ...add gas or electric to cook it to that bill.

So i can understand why many live on unhealthy diets

My mums is under £30 most weeks and her diet is terrible. Ready meals, frozen chips, processed meats etc. She doesn't cook everything goes in microwave or air fryer.

Not that I recommend it, but becoming vegetarian is one way of cutting the bills. Have you seen the prices of chicken and lamb recently ? Your food bill is outrageous btw, we spend about 150 a week, for 2 people, and that is purely for fresh healthy home cooking 7 days a week, no alcohol included.🤷🏻‍♂️

I spend about 20 -25 quid a week just on fruit and veg at present. I don't drink regularly so no alcohol , don't smoke etc

But i cook 7 days a week too these days. All fresh ingredients as i have limited freezer space. So chicken, fresh fish etc which is more expensive, healthier cereals, no bread etc
But even things like robinsons diluting juice has doubled in price in asda . Soup was 6 tins for 3 quid before its now £1.40 a tin 😱 the prices have gone nuts.

I dont envy families on low incomes. I have no other bills

P.s i think these days if i had someone to teach me recipes i could easily be vegetarian , but its all the other ingredients , spices etc i haven't got thats the problem.

Not creative enough and trying to keep stuff long enough as dont eabt to shop every few days

You can reduce your spending quite a bit by not buying brand names like Robinsons - what's wrong with supermarket own brands diluting juice, they all do a high juice version if that's what you want.

There are loads of recipes online which are easy to cook particularly for things like soup! Soup can be made for very little using cheap veg. There are lots of recipes for meals that use 5 or less ingredients including BBC Good Food.

It's definitely worth investing in a few spices - a bit of curry powder will liven up a humble tin of beans.

Aye i know and to be honest unless theres offers on them like 3 bottles for £3 etc i don't buy them .

I often will just buy alternatives of the things that are expensive ..or ill do without. The fresh fruit and veg is probably my biggest outlay at present.

Good that you use own brand stuff and don't just go for the big names certainly saves a fair bit.

Try and stick to the fruit and veg in season to get the cheapest prices although of course everything is pretty expensive now.

Tam - do you use the local library? If so get some cookery books out and teach yourself some veggie recipes. For some cheap veggie recipes you could try looking at Jack Monroe's website (she's very political in her views but you don't need to read that just look at the recipes!) - www.cookingonabootstrap.com - plenty of cheap easy recipes on there.

Ach ive never been one for big brands i just buy what i like.

I was just about to recommend Jack Monroe - cooking on a bootstrap! Her recipes are cheap, easy & quick, & very healthy for the most part! I love the way she changes recipes to make them easier & cheaper - the website is well worth a read!

Plenty of lentils, brown rice, sweet taties, fresh vegetables, you can still eat cheaply and healthily, the meat has gone up a lot though.

They are disgusting. Crab sticks are too, like chewing on rubber. Bet they have never even been wafted past a piece of fish :giggle:

Our shopping bill this week for the two of us was £65, usually between £55 - £65 used to be £45 - £55.
Always make use of the Lidl`s £12 off every month.
How does the £12 off. Work please
