Tam & co the great winter escape

We are very lucky to have a really good quality F&C shop just up the road in Frimley, you can eat in or take out, and they have so many regulars, all praising the quality, plus the portion sizes. The fish is top quality, as is the batter mix, the fish peels away in large flakes as it should do, oh calls them "Coins" for some reason.
I always get two medium haddock, & one chips, a few weeks back it cost me around £12, went back the following week, it was £14.20, hate to think what it would cost if I went tonight. A large haddock was priced at £8,, but you need to be very hungry, and have a larger plate to fit it on.
Trouble is that no one dare mention the price increase, as the now not a lot can be done, and theyy just flash their phones over the scanner to pay, it wasn't that long ago that they only took cash.
I bet they were still queuing outside tonight as its Friday, wonder how many will change from having fish to a large sausage in batter, which was always popular.
EDIT: decided to pop up there for a sausage supper/looksee, report back later.;)

I read an article the other day that said two meals of fish a week increase’s chance of cancer….🤷🏼‍♂️ All these years saying it’s good for you down the pan…
Yes I read it too, it’s to do with pollution in the oceans, tuna and marling are also terrible for pollution if you eat too much.

Poor dugs

Minky doesn't like chips and Tazzy's not keen either, Lily wasn't allowed them due to her windy tummy, so we if we didn't eat them they'd have gone to waste, something I hate.

I honestly dont know how they do that so cheap. My boss says he now pays £4.60 for the haddock each. From the fishermen
For some reason we've found in Scotland it's always at least 50% dearer, if not 100% dearer compared to where we are, not sure why ... plus you lot don't do scraps so it's not proper fish and chips! 😄

Makes you wonder what they are actually frying for that cheap price (chip shop in Hull)

Gina
Cod, you can ask for haddock for a bit extra if you want.

Oh dear just had fish for the 3rd night in a row.
At least I didn't fry it in old engine oil like they do in Hull.

Since its gone up to £7 not had any and in no hurry to at that price.

I know some chippies use Pollock, a lot cheaper and tastes as good as cod in my opinion (y)

Have to disagree, pollock is tasteless IMV, but cod and especially haddock have quite a distinct full flavour so I can usually tell immediately if I've been sold a pup.

From the prices others have quoted all around the country ... everywhere is dearer than where you are lol

I have to butt in here. Most celebrity chefs agree with me on this, including my favourite, James Martin.

Talking to our fishmonger who buys from Mevagissay, he said the fishing boat go to Plymouth to fill up with diesel as it’s cheaper, £4000 to fill the tank. No wonder fish is getting expensive!

Didn't they stop the sale of red diesel at marina pumps? You certainly used to get it when my parents had a thirsty petrol boat. Had a feeling it was stopped some time ago which will just add to the problem.
