Tam & co the great winter escape

Thinking back, hopefully like many others on here,;) It was always a cheap Saturday night out to take your girlfriend to the "Pictures" and get Fish & Chips on the way home, easily got change out of a fiver, much less in the 70's(y)
I always thought it strange when visiting grand parents/family in Scotland, that when ordering F&C, I was asked if I wanted a single fish, or a fish supper, and they only offered one type of fish in those days, think it was whiting.
Loved the puddin suppers, a whole wee black pudding cooked in batter, with a load of Ayrshire Potato Chips.

Trying to remember what the Scottish name was for the large slice of potato, deep fried in batter was called up there, I liked those also.
Its called different things up & down the country I believe.

I also guess that at current F&C prices, the Friday night treat for many families will be a thing of the past, sadly.

When we were kids, you were posh if you could afford fish and chips :giggle:

In uttoxeter the chip shops all do the same thing, pile loads of chips on, even if you ask for small, we always just have one between us and even then there is useually chips left over.
Even though we get the fish specials there's usually enough chips left for us to make a nice chip butty the following day! :tounge:

Take note folks, in Hull they use second hand chips.
At least in Hull we get enough chips to be able to have a chip butty the following day! 😄
