Tam & co the great winter escape

Yes brought me through the gas tanks
We would be well chuffed if you can find an unmanned border into Croatia (or even better out of Croatia back into Slovenia)!

A leaky Schengen could be very popular

You'll need your stamp going into Croatia to prove exit from Schengen zone
Agreed. But if you can get into Croatia without a stamp (which you wouldn't want to do) I assume you could get back in without a stamp/scan which would be very advantageous

Its more hope than expectation

Many years since I've seen one. I had one in the early 70s. The protruding grille shows it was diesel rather than petrol. Mine had the Perkins 4/108, and I would get 40 mpg. Did smoke a bit labouring up steep hills though!
Not necessarily so, if you fitted the V6 (or Rover V8) in place of the 4 cylinder, V4 or straight 4 it was necessary to use the diesel front grille and bonnet to get enough room for everything, did a few in my time.

Nice little spot for tonight's parkup ....by a wee chapel and a river , even has a fresh water tap and a bin which was handy as i was needing water. Passed these really cool tree trunk carvings on the way here. There were loads but these were the only ones i could stop at . Diesel extortionate in italy ..... average is €1.79 but seen it at €1.91 at one or 2 places. €1.37 in Austria which was the cheapest ive seen anywhere so far View attachment 555023View attachment 555024View attachment 555025View attachment 555026View attachment 555027View attachment 555029View attachment 555030View attachment 555031View attachment 555032View attachment 555033View attachment 555034View attachment 555035

Had to go fill up with lpg and diesel thos morning ...the guage on lpg basically goes from full to empty with no stops in between which is really handy 🤦‍♂️ it took just under 8 litres to fill which seems a lot for a week but i guess the fridge uses a fair bit when its on full all the time. ....anyway 72cents a litre here. 1.47 for diesel. Im now just heading to supermarket for a few days dinners.

:giggle:
Yes that was my first thought with it and what the previous owner had said , ill get it looked at somewhere most likely greece when i can find a small not busy garage ...i find those are often the best for old school mechanics.
Got any gaffer tape Tam? :giggle:

Looks much more like it! We've had some warmer stuff too now. 19 yesterday and the shorts have made an appearance. Beech enjoyed a paddle on a sandy beach this am. Think we have rain arriving tomorrow though.

Last couple of pics from Slovenia ...not an easy place to park up on the coast and not venturing further inland at the moment ...maybe on the way back depending on route.

I then left Slovenia and entered Croatia....i had to ask for my passport to be stamped as both booths leaving Slovenia and entering croatia were just waving me on without stopping ...i had to ask and make hand signals to ask both to stamp it which they did with no problems .

Ive found a nice secluded flt spot by the sea hidden about a mile down a very narrow very pothole filled dirt track but its quiet and unlikely to be disturbed or moved on by police etc ...nice wee walk along the shore with the pups so this will do me for the night. Picked up some beef at the supermarket so im going to make a nice stew for dinner tonight and probably tomorrow nights too

That sounds low to me but you think ice cubes are warm.

I love Renault 4s so youll find lots of pics of them in my travel threads. I'll buy one at some point once the vario is finished .

You get them in great condition throughout europe ...lots of patina but usually solid ..

When we were in Chartres in September there were loads of them around, seemed to be some sort of hire firm or rally thing going on.

They seem very popular in most of Europe they were Renault answer to the Citroen 2cv but in my opinion a much nicer looking car. Ive always liked them since i was a kid and i had several corgi ones 😁 i hope to pick up a half decent one at somepoint with tatty faded paint but rust free . That one in that photo would do me nicely

If you see any of these on your travels get a couple of snapshots, used to love e'm as a kid as quirky as they were..:giggle:
