I dont have to weld in greece though 😉
No point sitting at home in a cold caravan looking out at shitty weather and not being able to do anything. Im aswell being here.
I agree. It wont be particularly warm in March but at least you get some reasonable daylight and each day, generally gets a bit better.

When I looked at the 22nd first thought was you would have to get a move on! until 2 seconds later realised it was in March!
We have just crossed over from Larne to Cairnryan, 2/2.15 crossing.
We have 5 month old pup and this is her second ferry journey and she was fine.
Chatting to the couple in the car the was in front of us, they had a 6 month old Irish red setter in there car, they had left it with the breeder untill 2days before we meet them.
when we all got back to our vehicles both dogs had suffered no effects from the journey and were quite happy .
So which ferry company did you use? How much did it cost?

I went with dfds in the end as it was the time i wanted 6pm ...£142 all in .

Gets me into Folkestone at 18.30 uk time which is perfect to park up then a clear run back to Scotland Wednesday 23rd with possible camper viewings on route.
This van is getting advertised a few days before i arrive back in the uk .

Nope it won't be warm but its unlikely to get snow . And its the start of spring. It wasn't too bad last year so hopefully be the same.

Lol im a long way from the electrics yet ...gotta build and fit a roof rack before i can even insulate the roof etc , tanks to fit before a floor goes in . Haven't even given the electrics serious thought yet

Ok so after 40 minutes of grief at the Romanian border im finally in .

But they were initially refusing me entry which i still do not understand.

They took my passport and v5 one Bulgarian one Romanian guard. Another girl had a look inside van

Lots of discussion going on in the booth between both guards ...then a 3rd came out the office building. He asked where i was going and i said romania ... they asked which hotel i said no hotel its a campervan ....then they said i could only enter romania with a hotel reservation or an invitation .....and i had to pay €50 per day while i was in Romania. Started saying that since Brexit the uk was no longer in eu and there were different rules for us ... He said i could call the embassy if i liked to check ...that i should be aware of the laws of the country before trying to enter etc ...i basically told him i knew nothing of any of that and that i can't be the first campervan entering romania etc and i was there for only 2 weeks

Eventually after a lot of going back and forth i said ok it wont matter i will go north in Bulgaria ....he then said since this is a transition period i will let you enter this one time ...

I dont know what that was ...but 40 minutes it took 🤷‍♂️

Vignette here is €6 per week or €16 for 1 month i need to stay till the 8th so i bought 1 month

Raul does this make any sense to you?

I think they wanted their palms greased ?
Probably, coming out of Cambodia passport guy was looking at my passport any saying I had to pay so many dollars I just played dumb and kept saying don't understand he gave up in the end.

You need to show means of supporting yourself, also having no stamp entering Bulgaria it may confused things by exitinting. I think you just unlucky and had to deal with idiots. Never heard of this before.

I wondered if the non stamp for Bulgaria may have caused problems but no idea about the other stuff. They asked about a resident card aswell and i told them i did not have one ...i didn't live in Bulgaria i was from Scotland etc ...no idea what they were talking about most of the time but their english was good ..he was just going on about treaties and immigration rules etc etc ... I never had any of that anywhere else. Also the guards had both already stamped my passport while tge 3rd guy was saying all this...it was very strange

Hi Tam, you have been so lucky to have met with these two border officials who had the absolute authority to override the EU regulations that you had been unaware of  Of course you could have called the embassy for confirmation of these rules, if you got lucky, very lucky, someone might just pick up the call tomorrow ! As you are now in Romania illegally I hope your two helpful guards remembered to stamp you out of BG and into Romania to avoid any confusion over charges at the next border crossing. Just seen that you got stamped, good.

You just met self important authorities. Be prepared to meet some more. Usually they text the up the road colleagues and stop you for a potential hand out. I despair when I see idiots in power.

Seems very odd bearing in mind that they need us more than we need them

Tam, when they asked for 'residency card' they probably meant ID card for UK, not knowing that we are probably the only country in Europe where residents do not have them.
No he said resident card for Bulgaria.

They ask stupid questions.

Im standing at the border between Bulgaria and Romania

Question 1 ...where are you going ...eh duh romania

Question 2 ...where have you come from ...eh duh Bulgaria

Question 3 ...Do you have resident card ....no i dont live in Bulgaria

A while hes holding my passport that clearly states im Scottish.

Question 4 ...what are you doing here ....holiday , travelling.

Question 5 ....do you have an invitation .... blank stare ( didn't know it was a party )

Question 6 ...what hotel are you staying in .....no hotel this is a campervan.

Then a load of gobbledegook about Brexit etc etc etc

They may have been after money who knows ... but 4 of them and didn't make sense.

Good god,did they not realise this man is a true Scot, the saltire should have given it away. Absolutely no chance of a wee bribe from Tam!:ROFLMAO:;)
I never carry cash anyway so they would have needed a card machine 🤷‍♂️ that soon sorts out any scams

The thing is ... Romania isn't in Schengen so nothing should have changed anyway regarding brits. Im still a European which is what i said to him. But i admit i have not looked up any entry requirements for romania.

Just not a pleasant start when entering a new country.
