Im now in balchik .... probably only about 30km from the Bulgarian/Romanian border . Near the balchik palace which is picture 6/7 lovely sunny day again , very busy here i think everyone from the town is out walking today.

You probably know this Tam but for the benefit of others, you are now in what was Romania and that palace was built by/for the then Queen of Romania together with the Botanical Gardens there. When you leave Balchik if you head up the hill thru the town centre to the main coast road you will find the fuel station on the large roundabout that I told you about, water always available there and fuel prices get higher after there to the border.

Im still good for water ...but i will top up my diesel and lpg.

Certainly can't complain about the weather here ... while its not been tropical its been lovely and sunny and in the sun its t shirt weather ...bit chillier overnight but still around 8° .... haven't moved till this morning , now topped up with diesel, gas and a few items from lidl and stopped for lunch at kavarna. There hasn't been much to photograph really ... just another out of season seaside town so everything is closed . Going to head up the coast a bit now and i will likely cross in to Romania tomorrow or monday.

Ferry is booked from Calais for 1800 on tuesday the 22nd

Must say I have noticed this in this thread but didn't want to seem the miserable bugger, not your usual photos of castles and old cars just cold weather and borders and stuff.

Hi Tam, weather is holding up for you ( and me ! ) just great. Shabla is worth a look before you leave BG, first lighthouse on the Black Sea, an old Soviet fuel jetty and a large oilfield which is now disused but a lot of interesting old well heads and related stuff, good parking right by the sea, mostly rock but small sandy beach there. Just before you get to the lighthouse there are a couple of old " nodding donkey " pumps still in action and producing oil.

Yeah i came through shabla ...i was trying to find the hot springs but failed ...im now at a wee harbour near durankulak.

I was hoping to magic some castles out the air for chaser but sadly no one built any around here .... there's a lack of old cars too ...but ill have a pic of a border tomorrow so that should be fun
