Tam & co the great winter escape

The old town in the port city of Constanta ...rumoured to be the landing port of jason ( jason and the Argonauts) once he had recovered the golden fleece , sadly the main building i wanted to see the old casino is shrouded in scaffolding abd sheeting as its being restored , but i managed to find the others that are the apparent tourist attractions here 😁

I somehow managed to get myself interviewed by a film crew as i walked down what is apparently the narrowest street in constanta 🤷‍♂️ no idea what they were filming for but i might end up on Romania tv 🤣🤣 View attachment 587927View attachment 587928View attachment 587929View attachment 587930View attachment 587931View attachment 587932View attachment 587933View attachment 587934View attachment 587935View attachment 587936View attachment 587937View attachment 587938View attachment 587939View attachment 587940View attachment 587941View attachment 587942View attachment 587943View attachment 587944View attachment 587945View attachment 587946View attachment 587947View attachment 587948

The last few photos look very unappetising to me, but as you said later that was why you moved on.

In the end i moved last night around 22.30 the noise was just unbearable ....i drove an hour away to a spot in the town of jegalia and parked by a wee lake

Doggy walk this morning felt like running the gauntlet , dogs in every garden all barking and going nuts as you walked past ...if the town was not awake before they certainly were after. I then headed for Bucharest ....i have to say the award for the most boring motorway drive ever goes to Romania that was 2 hours of torture . On the road ( 21 ) from jegalia to the e81 motorway i counted 17 dead dogs on the roadside ....over perhaps a 10 mile stretch ☹️ ....and the drivers are nuts.

I've not seen such a flat country outside of holland ....ill be glad to get further north to see some hills and mountains.

Now parked at Lidl bucharest having lunch before i go shopping for dinner.

Weird currency to get used to ....it just took 362 leu to fill the tank

Lake is a very grand description. More like small pond from the piccies

You will be stunned by the mountains. They are proper mountains. Quite a few ski resorts. It will be snowy up there so take care.

Well in truth it was actually a river but there was a man-made lake and bird sanctuary at the bit i was parked at ...

Im hoping to avoid snow as much as possible

The currency is 5,9lei to the pound. Best is to draw cash at atm at the national bank rate. It’s flat round Bucharest, but 3/4 of Ro is hills and mountains. You are in the most boring area. If you move north you will be spoiled. From Bucharest head for Ploiesti, and decide which way you wanna go.
We crossed last night, just had a keep, around Antwerp at the moment. I will be stoping in Düsseldorf as I need to change my DPF, then we head for Ro. Depending on your plans, we may meet at some cross roads.

There is no snow in general, only on high altitude passes. Transfagarasan is close of course, there is snow there.

Parked up overnight in the centre of Bucharest ....tried to find somewhere that would be quiter and less road noise so im in this big park ... nice walk for the dogs , ill stay here tonight then ive a few other spots slightly closer to the old town and parliament building earmarked for tomorrow as its about an hour walk from here.

Yes there are even more strays here than i saw in greece , actually families and packs of dogs roaming around , on our morning walk this morning there were dogs in every garden but many were not secure and they could squeeze through gates etc ...

I think the ones on the roadside have obviously been car chasers or just unlucky...the weirdest one was 3 lying all within a foot or so of each other which looked like they were all hit at the same time.

Ive also seen quite a few with 3 legs etc. A lot of the strays have plastic tags in their ears

Makes me feel sick it's like it is a sport to just kill them rather than swerve to avoid them.

This was the wrong place to park.... The racket off the trains and bloody barges is unreal .
Been there done than on the Rhine in Germany, in a gorge section rail line both sides & the barges. I was shattered the next day.

I think im giving up trying to park in Bucharest lol. Ive driven around the town about 4 times now ... usual park4night unicorns ...this city is mental .

I did manage to stop briefly to take a photo of the palace parliament building but thats about it ...think theres something going on today too as lots of police road blocks etc

Closest parking is an hours walk from the town which effectively means at least a 3 hour walkabout with the dogs which isn't appealing in a busy city. ...

Hey. You are only 5 hours form Izmail (Ukraine). The campsites there are doing some cracking deals this spring.

By the time Tam gets there the pitches might all be filled up with Russian vehicles - not MHs.

We finally did manage to find somewhere to park although i might well get a ticket as i couldn't understand the signs ...but a 10 minute walk to the old town through another park. Bucharest seems a lovely city if you like city breaks but its very very big and its very busy ...the lanes on the roads are scary some are 5 and 6 lanes wide in both directions and the locals are not forgiving. There are some very large beautiful parks all around the city . A lot of very impressive buildings too ...we only spent an hour or so walking about ss dogs don't really like the noise and bustle
Everything is well spread out , its around 4 miles between the palace parliament and the arch de triump which i never did find ...this is why i want to carry a motorbike on the vario .

We are on the outskirts now at another large park having lunch ..

Unfortunately the text on the information boards is illegible once your photos have been resized.
I enlarged it and it's OK.

Edit:
Perhaps not, didn't realise Tam had reposted full size images.
