Tam & co the great winter escape

In January 2019 P&O Ferries announced that its UK fleet would be reflagged from Dover, UK to Limassol, Cyprus in response to the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union in 2019 "For operational and accounting reasons". Cyprus is a member of the EU and a flag of convenience;[8] the reflagging will allow P&O to continue to benefit from EU tax arrangements.[9] According to the Rail, Maritime and Transport union, the reflagging is "pure opportunism", saying that the firm's "long-term aim has always been to switch the UK fleet to a tax haven register".[9]
Is Maritime law materially different in any of those ports of registration and doesn't any vessel have an obligation to comply with the law of the Sovereign country who's water it is in.

Did you call these guys out to look for your missing lead

I must admit I didn't know that the law did not apply in the Channel It doesn't say this in the legislation, but hey I never worked on a ship so I defer to greater knowledge.

It doesn't change the fact that the Skipper has the responsibility for everyone safety (crew and passengers) and his word is the law. It would be disrespectful (IMO) to challenge that authority
I'm certainly not this 'greater knowledge' as I only worked on Deep Sea vessels but, I think it's possible that when a CC Ferry slices across some of the most congested shipping lanes in the world, IF they tried to follow ALL the rules, they would never leave Dover?

Jeeso if its no Fiddlesticksin Citroen's its summit else i leave this thread for a few hours and i come back to 3 pages of nonsense.

Look ive always used the tunnel because of many reasons mentioned ...but im fed up with their forever increasing costs despite how far ahead i book it ....its beyond a joke ... So i looked at other options and if i can save 50% cost and travel at the time that suits me then im gonna take the ferry . The dogs im pretty certain would be absolutely fine on their own but as ive little desire to mingle on a boat with a load of strangers anyway if i can ill stay with them in the van .... that's it . Some will agree some will disagree ....i dinnae really care a hoot .

Anyway after walking the dogs on the beach this morning i headed up to mikes which is just round the corner and he helpfully sorted me out with a tank of water and offered me use of the shower which i jumped at and im incredibly grateful ...ive headed back down to the beach for an other doggy walk but ive been kindly invited back for dinner so thats nice.....ive probably talked his ear off as i have realised myself im now like the lorry drivers i used to get in at work years ago ....i spend so much time in my own company with only the dogs to chat to when i meet other people i dont shut up lol . Heres pics from the park in varna yesterday and the dogs at the beach this morning....we had a big german shepherd join us for our walk today which the dogs loved playing with ,i believe he belongs to a neighbor of mikes ....when we finished our walk he just wandered off in to the woods . Pics might be jumbled as the resizer app does that.

I reckon he’s lucky ‘twas only three pages. And anyway Tam,it’s when your MHF friends pay no attention at all to this thread that you can moan!!;)(y)
Yeah. Twas only half a page anyway. :ROFLMAO:

Most dogs will probably be fine being left in the van on their own but it's not 'quiet' down there, car alarms going off, all sorts of banging and creaking, ship's engine noise etc, so don't assume it's just the same as leaving them in your van whilst you go out for a meal etc as it's nothing like it.

Our Lily has never recovered from being scared silly on a ferry which is why we always use the tunnel (going to Ireland/UK islands excepted as we take her up in a carrier to be with us). Having seen how this has affected the rest of her life as she is much more nervous now (and we've tried everything we can to 'cure' it) I wouldn't want to risk that with my dogs again - the tunnel is expensive but it's quicker and much less stressful on dogs so wins every time for us.
Thank you for that information. I didn't think about all the car alarms going off and the rest of the noise. Have any of you who have stayed in the vans with your dogs got a comment on that?

Gina.

Back in the 80's I travelled with my horse and various others to sporting events accross the channel on several occasions. As my horse was a stallion I was always given tbe privilege of travelling on the boat with him (stallions are/were wrongly deemed highly strung and dangerous). The horse boxes/lorries we travelled in loaded along with the rest of the freight below decks. If possible we were parked under air vents and allowed extra room to have our ramps down or partially open.
Back then we were allowed to go/stay below decks as much as we deemed necessary. I recall no alarms going off or other undue noises.
Horses weren't allowed to be loaded if bad weather conditions were expected. Our horses certainly travelled peacefully and happily enough.
Maybe that was before the days of modern alarms or maybe the car decks are noisier.

Glad you enjoyed yourself Tam, it was our pleasure too. You are the first Fun member we have actually met in all our years of membership ! The motorbike display in the Varna Sea Gardens appeared some years ago almost overnight and is kept in very good condition, they are owned by the people who have " control " of the businesses in that region, mostly bars, restaurants and nightclubs etc. There is also a retro museum of cars and bikes from the soviet empire times in Varna, all restored to mint condition and well worth a visit.
