Well there are somethings about motorhoming I'll never understand.

First ...why does your gas bottle always run out in the middle of the night?

Second .. how come you go to bed in an empty carpark and you wake up to 5 other motorhomes parked beside you?

I parked here last night and there was no one ....a pvc came in around 10.30pm
I went to sleep around 12.30pm ...never heard another vehicle but opened the blinds this morning and there's 4 other motorhomes turned up through the night...and the pvc has gone

It's weird like ....are they vampires or something? ...I've seen this is a few places I've parked before ...normally only 1 most times but 4 in one night ? ....don't look like they are travelling together either

Did that in Spain a few years ago: parked on waste ground near a garage - went to bed early no other vehicles. Had a peek around midnight and we were completely surrounded by trucks - they were at least 3 deep on all sides. Went back to sleep & awoke around 0800 and we were alone again. We never heard a thing when they arrived or when they left. I know we were pretty shattered but .............. I reckon they pushed them in and out .

Hmmm...can't say we've ever let the gas run out but totally agree on the second thing. We've had multiple times this trip where I'm off to bed thinking nice we have this place to ourselves and either woken by engine noise in the night or awake in the morning to see vans have magically appeared in the night. Well just one of my bottles ran out ...I just needed to turn the second on ...it's just weird how it never does it during the day ...

I hate driving the van at night so it's just weird how all these folk seem to turn up early hours in the morning ....the pvc was really strange it turned up at 10.30 and was gone by 8am

I think I'm just going to get one before I cross from Germany but I've no intention to use the motorways so hopefully I can find a place to return it for a refund when I leave Austria again.

I think it's mad that you have to buy one even if not using the motorways but then again I also think it's crap I'm paying road tax in the UK for six months when in not there lol ...but thems the breaks as they say.

Well vehicles registered in Poland can use all EU roads and do not pay a road tax - there is not one to pay, so what would you do about them?

Well that's not what I meant lol ....for instance €100 in Austria for road tolls over perhaps a week is almost the same amount im paying for 6 months road tax in the UK while I'm not in the UK

I've seen this sort of odd behaviour too. The oddest are those who leave aires in the evening. Where are they going?

Depending on the time of the year but even in summer I rarely stop before 8 or 9pm. Might on occasions be earlier say when I first leave home which would be around 4am so I'd normally stop around 5 or 6pm.

We are planning to enter Italy on Monday from Germany but will be crossing via Switzerland rather than Austria. We think we have to complete one of these forms each (tho’ we could be wrong about that as it seems a bit convoluted). We have been in Germany for 3 weeks now so think we should be spared the excitement of a Covid test. HTH.

Well i know other peoples experiences vary but having just been a walk aroujd wurzburg....the only reason Germany has lower covid figures than the uk is simply luck ...and possibly because their track and trace app is as useless as ours.

No social distancing whatsoever to the point they would happily walk in to you or just bump in to you. No one stands back to let you past ...when you stand back to let someone else pass some ignorant git will barge in to the space. You literally cannot move ....ive never seen somewhere so busy in months....the old roman bridge here yoi cant actually cross or take a photo when on it as there is without exaggeration around 500 people standing on it drinking.

And after all that its quite disappointing overall .....id compare it to Glasgow ,busy , noisy and not very welcoming.

Being the start of the romantic road i expected something more from it.

Im glad to be back at the van .....probably the least safe ive felt this trip so far.

It can be disconcerting, but remember it’s a city. We have found the businesses better at control though.
it’s a shame you won’t get the chance to do the residence but if you can walk up to the fortress for the view.
