Tam and Toby ~~ Hunting Zorba .....Take two.

The parking switch will be built into the wiper motor, the stalk switch won't have anything to do with the wiper park position.
Discovered the washer pump not working either. Remembered maxandsophie had issues with theirs so dropped them a mesage and it was wiper stalk causing issues there ... they replaced it and problem solved ...so hopefully its the cause of both my faults. £42.50 on ebay so ive ordered one to see.
Probably won't arrive before Thursday so it may be the following week before i get MOT done. No point taking it with obvious faults

Tam, round our way the 'man with van' type rubbish removal is cheaper than a skip. If you pile it up, send them a photo of the pile and they give you a price, then come and load it up and away. Google rubbish removal. Be careful if they've a twin axle caravan with them though:smiley:
Make sure the bus is not in the photos. :roflmto:

Gotta do my day 8 test this morning too although seems pointless as still not heard anything back from my day 2 one .. not even an email acknowledging receipt

Try phoning the lab and just number busy constantly
Do you have to pay for those tests ?

Do you have to pay for those tests ?
He paid a fortune, just to rub it in Tam, daughter has gone back to work as she is a teacher she is in a bubble at school and we are in a bubble with her for child care we are recommended to take a test twice a week.
Guess what IT'S FREE.

Different tack altogether...
Have you thought of a "Murphy Bed" ?
Seems to be a great idea utilising space... but I guess there must be disadvantages as there is with all compromises.

I have a plan in my head for 'half a Murphy' if I ever do a build.

A raised bed at the back, half of which folds up to clear space in the living area, but leaving the far fixed half over a garage...... 😎

Do you have to pay for those tests ?
Yes £200

Number has been busy again today ...ige now taken and sent of the day 8 test but still no results from the day 2 test

Good old british service

Italian test £60 results in 48 hours even over a weekend
French test €30 result in 15 minutes

Uk tests £200 ......zilch

If you local tip is anything like ours, they will see a van and immediatly presume trade waste and charge £££
No amount of explaining will make them change their minds
They tried that with me , I just told them I am entitled to dump here , i said if they are not happy phone the police or their boss but I am dumping & said do you want it on the ground or in a container, they pointed to the container

Entitled ?
As far as I am aware council tax includes non commercial waste disposal. If a van is your only transport that's what you are entitled to use. Surrey have recently charged an £8 fee for for authorising a van for domestic rather than commercial waste which I'm happy to pay.

Never took anything to a tip, always burn it if burnable or to scrapy if it's metal, no charge, might even get a bit back.

I suspect (but don't know) that being a council tax payer only "entitles" you to bin collection.
Dumps/Recycling centres are run at a council's "discretion".

I'm not sure your bullying would have ended in a positive result had your bluff been called.

Maybe, maybe not.
We'll never know :) .

The recycling centre here is definitely covered by your council tax its free to use if not a business. If you use it a lot someone may ask you why etc but thats rare. The issues just now are mostly down to covid and having to make appointments etc and that's their reasoning behind not allowing large vans and big trailers.
Im just going to book 3 appointments for this week starting from tuesday and ill take it up in the car

Don't you live on a farm?

Not allowed to burn anything here.. and the metal scrap has already been lifted by someone

I know nothing of Scottish Local Authorities.
Here, I'm sure paying council tax entitles you to bin collection only, frequency determined by the council.
I'm not sure there's any requirement for councils to also provide dumps.

In days gone by, my local council would provide mega skips at the end of the road when everything could be tipped... no longer.

Oversize waste items will be collected at their convenience & at a fee.

Which is why I question the term - "entitled".

Its old plasterboard, brick rubble, or wall tiles, anything out of a bathroom or kitchen basically, no way will our dump here in surrey, allow you to dump those items unless you pay £4 per 25Kilo Bucket.

The stupidest part was 7/8 years ago I went with my trailer, full of rubble, just before they brought in "The annual trailer pass" max 6 visits per year only green waste, no builders waste.
I arrived with trailer, was pulled in and told "Sorry I have to disappoint you sir" you cannot bring rubble in a trailer it has to go to the commercial recycling place in Guildford or Shepperton (miles away) unless you empty trailer into buckets and place in the boot of your car, then we can allow it!

Well I did, I took the car & trailer out the dump, unhitched the trailer, and started filling those large yellow buckets with rubble from the trailer. Back and forth I went about 6/8 times to get the job done, and all the while the B####ds were looking at me, waving as I went in & out each trip, laughing their heads off.:swear::mad::mad::mad:

Obviously I have never forgotten that experience, but these days the dump is only open 5 days a week, closed on Tuesdays for some reason, and the road outside at weekends is gridlocked, when you reach a point near the entrance gate, there is a yellow sign, stating you will have a minimum 1 hour wait from this point, what you dont see from the road is that they have 2 men, direct you into 7 lanes to que up in an adjacent car park.
Its still £4 per bucket for rubble, you have to pay by CC, I even offered the guy " A Drink" he said cant mate, we on CCTV, smile at the cameras.
LES:mad:
PS: Wife ordered skip on behalf of her allotment, council owned, registered charity, made no difference!
After contacting every skip company in and around the area, here are the best prices quoted.
6 yard builders skip £282 inc vat.
8 yard large skip £290 inc Vat
Doesn't make sense does it?

I couldn't believe the price of those Hippo bags when I looked at them
Yes but they tell you it includes the disposal charge. What they don't tell you though is they take them back to their site & empty in to a skip then resell them again. Disposal charge is still them same for the skip but they gain on the exhorbitant cost for the 1tonne/1m3 bag

if i don't get them i will be in contact with my card company to get some money back
So would I.

That's what I always did years ago.
Entitled ?
Yes, where I lived in Devon you were entitled if a local ratepayer. I also had the advantage that living so close to the Devon/Somerset border we were allowed to use services in Wellington,Somerset, including the tip..
Never took anything to a tip, always burn it if burnable or to scrapy if it's metal, no charge, might even get a bit back.
That's what I used to do & still do here.

Might depend on area ?
I don't know of many councils that still run there own tips? Even 35 years back in Devon it was put out to tender. Highest bid got the job. Same applies today & one I use even has its own shop. Makes far more sense when you see what some people throw away.

Where you went wrong was in not dropping it in the exit gateway & unloading it there. (y)More than one way to skin a cat.

I won't mention it is 35€ here rubble only, or 45€ if mixed including landfill tax.:giggle:
Plus ,& the thing that always amazes me, is keep the skip as long as you want??

Yea it was the same here about 12/15 months ago, but since lock down, and dumps being forced to close, I guess the skip companies are having a field day.

Can't you get one of those dustbin type garden incinerator things and burn your wood?
Or leave it outside your mum's yard with a notice on....FREE fire wood to a good home.

I knew the tests were a waste of time as soon as they were announced and ive been proved right ...its all soundbites and half arsed measures. I do resent having to pay for them though whilst having to isolate anyway ...total nonsense.

I know , money 4 old rope and s--t service as my auld ma says.😆.
And i only paid €20 for my test in Spain, uk taking the P or what!!

Gone are the days when we used to go down to Leatherhead dump and rummage through it all for bike parts as kids and they let us...😁

My mates & I never had new bikes, they were all built and adapted from scrapped bikes from the junk yard.
When I bought my first house, I gutted the inside, shovelled the rubble & plaster straight out the front door inside the back of my old transit van, drove the dump, with very light steering:giggle: Then opened the back doors of the van, reversed with great speed, slapped on the brakes and most of the rubble came out the back straight onto the tip of all sorts.
I got that lesson watching the other builders do the same, there was no one about to monitor anything in those days.
My first ever skip cost a fortune in 1979....£30 quid cash, a weeks wages nearly as an apprenticed sparks.
