Tam and Toby ~~ Hunting Zorba .....Take two.

I wonder if these vans have got wind of more strict restrictions coming and all getting them out while they can?
Large breed puppies, Labs, Retrievers etc are £2k -£4k at the moment. It's easier to ship puppies than find enough dinghies for humans.
Check the situation at Dartford crossing. Big problem there this morning. Maybe go clockwise on M25.
Yes, one tunnel closed while they recover a lorry. Had the radio on all morning and it's on every news bulletin.

Is that Scottish slang for something else 😳

'crater i hit 10 mimutes ago that bounced my sea urchins off the dash'
Don't you just love a Scottish euphemism 😉🤣

We often slept in the pet passport car park. Witnessed in dark through our window, a couple of foreign vans parked, open the back door, it had been a stinking hot day, he got a dog out and got paper towels to wipe it, probably messed itself in the cage. The dog could not stand, he had to carry it inside, it was not a puppy, it was not even an attractive dog, he went in, came out and drove off, you can’t tell me he only had one dog in there. We believe they are bringing dogs in for dog fighting. It broke our hearts, thought of contacting Paul O’Grady to do some investigations. We have also seen, big burly men taking in a little chuahuas into the office on a lead, then in the big carpark, a guy in a Mercedes was handing these same men a wad of money each. We can only surmise what is happening, but I think we aren’t far from the truth, it should be stopped, I thought once Brexit happened it would stop, there must be someone in the pet passport office colluding with them.

At times we have seen at least nine vans on one train. How many trains per day have this number. Doesn’t bear thinking about.

Welcome to uk ...m20 roadworks and now a broken down truck so at a standstill. Not to mention the crater i hit 10 mimutes ago that bounced my sea urchins off the dash
We're one week behind you. Can't wait... not!! Can barely remember what a traffic jam is like.

So when i arrive back in the uk tomorrow i have 518 miles to do and an 8.5 hour journey not accounting for traffic or delays etc . Whats the situation like there at present? Am i going to get hassled if i park up somewhere overnight to break up the journey? I know i cant do that distance without stopping at least 2 or 3 times. Im pretty sure the police if stopping me will understand that tiredness kills etc but im more concerned about public perception if i stop over somewhere quiet and out the way.

On trips like yours (ie not for pleasure) I use motorway services for over-nighting. They aren't particularly noisy if you choose your spot & at the moment they'll be particularly quiet. Very convenient and no time wasted off-route.

Don't forget to pay or you will get a very hefty fine :(

Oh,and I meant to say......have a good journey home. It has certainly brightened many a dull day by reading about your travels, and even your trials and tribulations.

By the way,we drive on the left here.....probably the same in bonnie Scotland ;)

Take care.:giggle:(y)
Yes - agree with the sentiment Podney!
Aye - we're all on the left up here :giggle: no probs!

Ate they allowed in to the U.K. without quarantine because they are a business ?

yes.

, there must be someone in the pet passport office colluding with them.
I was thinking that as the requirements for commercial transportation is up to a maximum of 20 in vehicles that comply with UK & NI requirements for safety, adaptation, temperature control, etc. Additionally they have to be a licensed registered business or a registered charity & the people transporting have to be employee¡s/ registered volunteers.
The animals cannot be taken in one at a time but must be seen in situ by the person checking each animal to ensure no substitution, that the vehicle is legal, registered as a vehicle for transportation of live animals, is insured as such & complies with the requirements to transport the animals in the safe & legal manor..

Who is responsible for checking the vehicles and drivers, rather than the animals? Vets, Customs or Police?

And do foreign registered vehicles have to comply with UK rules on this or only the rules in country of registration?

All interesting stuff.

Geoff

Doing well despite the traffic jams. Should be better now. Soon be past Preston and then traffic is always much lighter.
Yeah 4 sets of roadworks and 2 jams so far ... lost about an hour with those...satnav says 4.5 hours from home but will see how that goes ill probably stop somewhere in borders after Annandale

So far ive seen 4 other motorhomes heading north ...one pulled in here after me ....and 3 heading south.
Roads are quite busy though hopefully get quieter now though

Looks like the French are still having a tantrum over Brexit, normally quicker than UK customs.
They’re sulking. Their bottom lips are sticking out,and their “armholes“are pouting. Pathetic.

The more I read about this, the more concerned I am for the dogs welfare.

I wonder if the buyers over here realise the trauma the dogs go through.

Coincidentally, the duchess met a lady recently who had just got a dog from Romania and it was very timid....not surprising if it had a journey from hell in the back of a van.

I would have thought it would be the veterinary staff first off to ensure that animals, vehicles & drivers comply & anything even slightly suspicious call in customs,pòlice etc.
The importation rules state quite clearly that the vehicles have to comply with UK & NI construction requirements.

Well ive pulled up at shap as im getting weary and sore. Ive been on the go since 6.30 this morning ... Im just parked rosdside in a lay-by on what is meant to be a closed road but a few cars going up and down it at the minute which im hoping stops.

That said i am kind of expecting a knock on the door from dibble at some point but hopefully after ive eaten then if they really want me to continue home i will but its another 2.5 hours drive and im knackered

is that not the same as a HGV driver does??
OK driver hours dont count in a motorhome but driver safety does.. I am sure if you told plod nicely you did not want to risk yours and other lives and will be moving on as soon as rested all will be well...

Agree.
Newspapers,Folkestone MP, RSPCA .....don’t know who might be interested. Tam,if you wanted to you could start a new thread just about this issue and that might give some info and ideas, but I do realise it’s not something that you may want to do.
