Tam and Toby ~~ Hunting Zorba .....Take two.

I think their passports are no longer valid, but still worth keeping rabies vaccs up to date
AHC needed from now on

Makes Switzerland even cheaper.
Isnt the weather likely to be bad?

Im trying to avoid snow as much as possible ..... drove through this earlier

They have Spanish passports so still valid but all entries to be made in EU hence trying to work that in to my trip home

When are the dogs rabies jags due, needless to say I think they are very important.
I have no udea about the frequency of injections required by countries other than SPain and Uk but would think as both your Pups have EU Passports the safest bet would be to keep them within the annual anniversary.
Although overdosing with rabies vaccines is not reccomended, one has to be 10 times over recommended levels to be in danger of adverse side effects so I would certainly not worry about ill effects of an annual booster on this occasion. At least then the dogs passports would be ok for whatever country you find yourself in or if a titre test was required.
The other annual boosters are not a legal requirement and unless in an area where hardpad and distemper are known to be rife (I think usually amongst strays in suburban areas) after the two initial injections as pups many dogs rely on their own built up anti-bodies.
The other major dangers are heartworm and leishmanamism (the "scalibor collars") but whilst at such low temperatures i think you are safe.

Tam

Just in case you don't go through Italy the Czech/German and the Austrian Tyrol/German borders have recently been closed to all but limited categories of vehicles.

You would still be OK passing through Slowakia-Poland-Germany. All easy for wildcamping, including our yard, which has also been a drone-o-drome for a guy called 'Blu' on another forum.

Thats the bummer as i had them done in august before i left in September.
But they have Spanish passports and the uk vet has dated them for 3 years.
Which is going to cause me issues with re entering EU .

So i planned to enquire in germany about swapping to german passports and then i wouldn't need this daft ahc thing they now have in uk

But are you a vehicle welder or a proper welder? :giggle:

Coded suggest industrial welding not messing with 2000guage tin foil.
I used to weld train chassis ...but was years ago ...the only stuff ive welded in the last 10 years is cars

You qualify for both then.

Just that I know welders at work who wouldn't touch vehicle panels. I once welded up some triumph herald inner wheels arches (you remember they were joined with the bonnet).

Looks great, but when I closed the bonnet it was all out of shape as the heat had gone into the large panel and deformed it. Never made that mistake again.

Filling in the windows should be fine if you do it a bit at a time. It's not structural after all.

You sound like you have experience to me (y)

I will drill holes every 15 mm then puddle weld them keeps the heat out

Right i think ive come to a decision. Im going to spend the night here and tomorrow im heading back to the peloponnese.....ill head back west from nafplion to kalamata and on to the west coast again ....ill spend another 3 or 4 weeks down there as its warmer ....then ill get ferry from igoumenitsa to Ancona mid march and do a mad dash back over 5 or 7 days through italy cross Switzerland in to germany ...do dogs etc in germany pcr test and then from Germany straight to the Chunnel around 21st

Hopefully things will get better rather than worse over that time but at least it wont be as cold and snowy as it is now.

My original plan when i left was to return via italy that only changed when i had to come via Italy to get here as i hate going back the same way.
I no longer need to extend my trip to look for a van in germany so theres no need to endure freezing cold temps in Bulgaria and Romania....id rather save them for a time when I can enjoy them.
It means less borders to cross but a lot of long driving days at the end which im not a fan of but if i leave greece in 2 weeks id likely have to do that anyway so i may aswell make the most of being down here just now.

Lets face it theres no guarantees yet that we will be able to travel next year either.

Im just giving myself headaches and stress trying to thing of other solutions and its ruining what time I've left.

If it wasn't for the 90 days situation id just wait it out down here till things started to open up again but it is what it is and i cant change it.

Had i a different van with better heating and better tyres etc to cope with colder climates i wouldn't be as concerned but its not as cold here as it is further north and already the dogs and i are miserable.

So its one very cold snowy night tonight then back south tomorrow.

Best laid plans and all that.

In other news i think my vario is being delivered on Wednesday if oor Nicola lets him in lol.

Tam, Have a look through the Machine Mart website. They do a good selection of wood burners and flue's etc. (y)(y)
Think im going to fit one of these 3 to be honest as all tried and tested in vans the same as im building ...the hobbit is the current favourite

Re the dogs passport Tam- if you look above the column of dates there is a little typed bit explaining the position of the 3dates of each following injection:-
vacination date
valid from
valid until
I don't believe "Valid until" precludes you from having it done earlier if you wish.

Ok, probably need to ignore the above if it is a fact that having a UK entry on the passport renders it null and void is correct but is it?
The other alternative is to get them both new EU passports in Germany by the guy. recommended on here

Tam if you don't want to do so much driving the ferry from Patra is the same price as Igoumenitsa even though its 4/5 hours more on the ferry.
Yes ill ask when booking it ....not sure what happens with dogs on this one ...

Heatings on but its pants when youve to choose between heating or tv ....my batteries cant cope with both it seems ☹️. This time next year ill be sat cosy as anything with my logburner going
