Tam and Toby ~~ Hunting Zorba .....Take two.

I like the one with the woodburner raised up and the log store underneath.
I love woodburners and had one in my very cold, north-facing farmhouse in the Highlands.
I used to carry a supply of logs in and stack them on the hearth all around the woodburner. On a couple of occasions I became aware that my stored logs had got so hot they were smouldering- take care!
I also believe ( with no logic or reason on my part) that a stove draws better with a "dog leg" in the chimney as in the picture versus a straight flu pipe.

Not "rustic" enough for me lol 😃.
Sadly I think I have missed my chance at "vanlife", but I think a van conversion is definitely the way I would choose to go rather than a motorhome- especially with my existing dogs.😊

Yes thats why ive decided to do it .... motorhomes too fragile

Poor Mum! But at least it's brilliant that she is well enough to care. Bless her.😁
Her biggest problem is she cares too much what her neighbours think.

She's let it hold her back her entire life.

Something i don't share.....im off the mindset its none of their beeswax

Blimey. Looks like a death trap to me. Its stood on bare wood with a store of wood underneath.

The one earlier in the posh van looks a bit safer. It seems to be on a stone structure.

Straighter the flue the better. Small dog leg is ok but I vant see why it would draw any better.

Keep bare wood well away. Unless it has some retardant on it or something

You say that with your two short haired, little people, imagine traveling with my three!
When I do travel i can't even give them a dog flap into my spacious garage as all that room is taken up by my amazing mobility scooter.
I'm sure we will manage somehow.
Maybe i should put a cage front on my over-the-garage bed and modify ome of my revolving captains seats and short settee behind it into a bed for me.
Hmm, now that has got me thinking!😃

I like "the collar" that stove has around it for the kettle/cooking pots.

I think worrying what the neighbours will think is a bit of a generational thing - my Father was exactly the same, although having said that -I think my brother is probably similar.
Also which sadly I didn't do sufficient of while my parents were alive was respecting the fact that it was THEIR home, therefore their rules.

Mine will be well insulated and have proper fire wall around it but still have storage under it ....i just like that particular stove not the stand its on

I really like that design of stove.
Small enough for the van, cooking option on the top, but can be kept down, and the tray around the base is a nice way to keep the area tidy(er) .
Have you got a supplier for it please?

Mine will be similar idea to this regarding mounting ....will be just to the left of the side door facing a 45 degree angle towards the bulkhead ... Raised about 18 -24 off floor with log storage below ....either stainless steel or tiles behind it

They look fantastic.....and a whole lot safer.

Fully insulated flue on the last one

I wonder how the joints on the chimney sections/flues fare if you go down bumpy track.

Not sure ...ill be fitting a flexible rubber flashing on the outside and a double skinned flue where it comes through the roof ... single flue from top of burner too that with a small angle. All done properly with no corners cut ....i want it safe. But so worth it on cold nights

And might help me find a fellow adventurer for my next travels 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah...potential fellow adventurers would appreciate a nice warm real fire that's for sure

The lower the stove the better. Heat rises, the storage box under is nice but you will stow the wood in a locker so it does not move about. The flue, less bends less obstructions to draft, but also takes most heat out with it. Some damper will be needed 6-8 inches above the stove. Single skin from stove then a adapter to double wall to go through the sleeve. Single skin will melt the sleeve. Top exit is best for top heat for the kettle. Back exit does not give much heat to the kettle, most heat will go to the next obstruction bend. Best with a top exit, solid baffle plate inside and a baffle on the flue for nigh burn. Otherwise half the heat it will escape out. There is a company in Newbury that can make stoves to your designs, I got one from them few years ago for the house and is fantastic. If I would be in your position I would make my own, and make the fire travel zig zag before exits. A base box is just puts the heat out the flue.
Check out 3kg propane bottles and make one out, good steel.
I made one for the garage with a 13kg a 3kg and a pipe to force the fire up then come down to exit. It boils nice at the top.

Sounds like Raul knows what he is talking about 😁
I thought that too......but then I saw his home made woodburner

Only kidding. I understand it's only for a garage and quite creative. I especially like the pipe of bricks being used as a support. Good job Tam has plenty of payload.
