Did you get export licences for them. You never know when you arrive at the french port for ferry to the uk. They will search the van find the urchins. No export licences 😱 strip searched and anal probes. Unless that’s your plan. Enjoy 😉

Is there anyone on the dreaded Facebook that can access marketplace and see what mercedes varios there are available in the uk at present.

Not a minibus just vans

I dont particularly want to join Facebook again just to check

Not sure if you can see this if you are not a facebook member. Let me know. There appears to be a few on there.

Edit: Sorry, just seen that you're not interested in mini buses and I have sent you a few of these.

Cheers ...so far it seems to be all the same ones on ebay and gumtree.

Yeah a bus would be a last option but only if built on a standard van as the plaxtons etc arent what im after

Ive my eye on one van based bus on eBay with the intention that if it was cheap enough id just remove all the windows I didn't want and plate steel them.

I wonder what that would be up for if it wan't for #vanlife, nowhere near £15.5k would be my guess. Second hand van prices are definitely on the increase. They all have "ideal for camper van conversion" in the ads nowadays.

Thats good to know regarding bulgaria

Im lost with the fuel consumption figures of some of these motors as every person ive asked will tell me how many litres per 100km as thats how they work it out in europe

The old Merc truck i really like but not practical for me ....i don't really need 4x4 etc.

Im pretty much settled on a merc vario and while there is a few models available with the 2.9 engine ill likely be buying the 4.25 one as they are heavy vans

Claimed figures for the 4.25 is 20 -25mpg which is the same as my frankia got
Toby gets 25mpg

I can live with that as overall my cost of living is low

This trip ive averaged £300 per month so far ....its almost impossible to spend money during lockdowns
£300 ! Struth ! Does that include everything ? Food, ferries, petrol, Haggis, gas etc ?

Yes as the only thing im doing is buying food and using diesel and lpg for cooking and fridge.
Everything is closed 🤷🏻‍♂️ no bars , restaurants etc are open .
Haven't been on any ferries

£296 for december , £298 for january , feb £36 so far lol

And im gaining weight lol

Nothing open ... can't spend any money ...im actually looking forward to decathlon in corinth as i need some walking boots and a few other bits

Yep exactly and it means theres many chancers asking silly money for heaps of scrap.
The guy thats selling this vario panel van seems to think its gold ....3 times on ebay now at the same price and its not sold ...needs a fair bit work done to it just to make it sound and its 20 years old ....i for one won't pay anything like his asking price

So ive moved today and im now at a quiet little cove parked at a closed taverna near siderona.

My next stop will be the corinth canal as i want to fly the drone there and hopefully get a ship going through it

And then its decision time

Ill have around 15 or 16 days to make my way to Bulgaria ..... because of the lockdown i missed a lot of greece as i drove from lefkada to Elea ....so i cant decide ....do i go west and visit Olympia then cross at patras north to the meteora monestary and then east and north to Bulgaria red line
OR do i cross the corinth canal and head up through larissa etc blue line

Obviously missing out any big cities etc because thats the higher risk areas

Can't decide

Im not fussed about missing anything as i will definitely be back to greece hopefully next year with a different van.

I thought Olympia was done disappointing but iconic I guess .
Not as good as a lot of the other sites, spoilt for choice in Greece.
At least it will be quiet (if open) as no cruise ships. By luck we managed to pick the day the ships didn't stop I think it was Wednesday.

Our ageing neighbour's where dragged off to Bulgaria in October by the son and daughter in law, after the dad had his second stent fitted here in Spain and Yes 😉 he is getting forgetful ........... but in my view unless you loose your marbles, 🙄 you shouldn't plan someone's life. 🙂
They found them a nice 6th floor flat in Sofia, no outside space, a city they wouldn't dare drive in, and although they lived in Switzerland and speak French and English felt out of their comfort zone in Bulgaria and returned back here last night. 😆

An expensive holiday, 😯 having got rid of a lot of furniture someone in to paint it to be sold, renting our apartment for the son and d in law prior helping them pack, getting their car transported both ways the dogs transported both ways air fares taxi and so on. 😁

Anyway one thing that clicked was the heap of tyres on their patio this morning that they unloaded out the car, because THEY NEEDED WINTER TYRES something you need to look into Tam. 🤔 Bob.

I have winter tyres on the front drive wheels but not the back ...not sure what the timescale is for them there as countries vary ....will see

It seems in Bulgaria its not actually stated winter tyres but rather tyres suitable for winter use with 4mm tread

Has the not going out to eat/ drink or coffee and snacks affected your experience of Greece?
It’s one of the habits we like when traveling, especially in Portugal with the pastel de nata and coffee.
