Be careful with that. You don't know if they are Pedos, murderers or other types of criminal etc. You could have police knocking on your door and seizing your phone/computer etc... I never share my connection with people I don't know.I have been doing the same re sharing with any UK vans close enough to us. We parked at Ghent a couple of nights ago and parked next to a couple of Aussies who had hired a van in Germany and were touring. Gave them a chance to catch up with people at home and download lots of info for their trip. They're finishing mainland Europe then popping over to the UK in about a month.
Still haven't decided on what I'm doing re fixing it permanently or semi permanently yet, but it's been a great test. Just wished I had sorted out the 12v mod out (it was all working great on 12v but I decided to change things just before we left !!)
Now at Delft campsite before getting the ferry back to Harwich tomorrow
Because with the duo dishy you don't need to have their router you can use your own and not bother with the starlink router at all.why do you say this Zac
From the websiteNot sure that's correct as all the videos I have seen they are using 12v routers.
I would use a 12v router and put a transformer to ensure a steady 12v and power it from the dishy like everlanders did in his video. From the website
What router should I use?
Our recommendation is a 48v PoE 802.3af/at router so you can power it with the Dualie, however any router will work if you power it externally.
To be honest, I dint know whether it is or not yet, the idea was that it would be on permanently when driving etc 24/7 without using the inverter. Also off grid for a few days we are hoping we can leave it on permanently without the inverter having to run and use power. At 1.5A being used by the inverter being left on that's 72Ah over two days, at a five day rally with no EHU it would be 180Ah. Of course we could turn the inverter off but l like to be able to access the internet without going through a sequence of 'actions'. Just using 12v supply might not make things any better. I don't know what it would be at 12v as I haven't tested it yet. That can wait until we get back tomorrow and start sorting it out next week. Can't see the point of the 12v mod if you have an inverter. The savings are not worth it from the videos I have seen unless you want to use your own router of course then it is.
I think it's what ever works for you, I have always said myself that I do stuff to make things easier not to save money. I was going to convert mine to 12v but given the trouble I had and then seeing that the savings are not great I decided against it. That's not to say I wouldn't do it if there was some other benefit. For me it's now easier from the invertor and my double socket is a smart socket so once the invertor is on I can turn on and off the smart sockets remotely which is even better than what I would of have to do if they were 12v. Meaning the starlink is now remote controlled for on and off.To be honest, I dint know whether it is or not yet, the idea was that it would be on permanently when driving etc 24/7 without using the inverter. Sorry to be a downer. But I ran a hosting company for a while and had regular visits from the police demanding records of people using IP address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx The first time they came I was really worried they were going to seize all my business computers and servers. That would have killed the company.
In a private individuals case you would lose computers, phones tablets, and run the risk of your reputation being damaged.
I was obstructed on a site in Tours last week. It said I should expect disruption every three minutes. It should have said, expect Starlink to stop 10 seconds before any try is scored.
Yep, same here it’s sat on my roof and can’t fault it, £85.00 a month is a killer but worth it.Touring around france and getting reallly used to this now, pull up, throw the starlink on the roof (I bought the magnetic feet), 3 min later 200mbits internet for all.
If you know what your doing no harm done and it’s just scare mongering.Be careful with that. Yes on the roam package at £85 a monthl know this is a shortcut, but have l got it correct? I could use Starlink in my Motorhome,My U.K. home and at a Spanish property, it has that mobility. Thanks.
Currently that is correct, as long as you have selected the roam option.l know this is a shortcut, but have l got it correct? I could use Starlink in my Motorhome,My U.K. home and at a Spanish property, it has that mobility. Thanks.
And if they do I would imagine a few subscribers would just stop using it ...not that starlink would even notice! I will be keeping my Netgear M2 for the foreseeable future...! Although I could be open for offers of course so I can put the money to an M5/6 ...Currently that is correct, as long as you have selected the roam option.
However in the US, they are introducing different subscription plans, which would prevent such flexibility. I suspect they may also eventually be introduced in the EU.
Not good enough. Do you want me to explain or will you take my word for it? (save me typing it all in )
I do this for a living. No it is not scare mongering. Sharing your connection is risky if you do not know the person you are sharing with.If you know what your doing no harm done and it’s just scare mongering.
Whilst in Cologne on a river cruise, a starling dish was being installed on the boat... hope it works better than the replaced regular sat dome...
Unsurprisingly the traditional equipment struggled to hold onto any usable signal.
3 of the Larger Roam Starlink's fitted to the Seabourne Pursuit Expedition cruise ship, which came into service two months ago, travelled from Barbados & 1000 miles up the Amazon to Manaus this month and WiFi was available 24/7 throughout, much better than my previous experience of on ship WiFi.
