Starlink ordered… I feel it’s the only sensible option now..

Just as an aside my wife was looking this morning & said that the monthly cost in France was only40€? Anyone in France using it know if that is correct?
We are definitely considering it here at home now as the signal & mobile signal is never going to get any better. Just need them to do an offer like they did earlier in the summer.
Yes 40 a month and 450 for dish and router.

I’d definitely have it on roam for that if it was available in the uk…

You don't get roam for that price I don't believe? Think roam is 100?

Here in spain it is 65€ plus another 9€ tax charge for gov.es allowing access to the system
450€ for kit plus 23€ delivery

Yeah I realise that always hoping… but I would possibly go to £70 a month and then get rid of my useless home broadband then it would bring it down to £45 a month for me..

thanks, but they need to be three pins from the router to the '12/48v supply' - 12v, 48v, gnd
Probably way too late and no longer needed. But just in case anyone else needs the same?

I have 2 pairs of yaosheng adapters coming hopefully by the end of this week.
This consists of the dishy adapter posted earlier in this thread where it saves you cutting the dishy lead and also the 150w adapter to power the dishy. All that is then needed is a cheap 12v-48v convertor from for instance amazon to then make the whole thing work on 12v
You will of course need a 12v router as well
Any one interested let me knew as there will not be anymore of these moving forward and they will be sold at cost plus postage also at cost.
Photos attached, this also means no cutting the dishy cable and wiring special network cables as this will use standard network cables.
The best solution is the dishy duolie but these are nearly impossible to get hold of without waiting months and months.
I wanted something so I could convert it before we leave 7 Dec for a few weeks and unfortunately the dishy duolie is never going to arrive before this date.

Now in Spain the cost is down to 40€ +9€ gov.es access charge per month.
450€ +23€ delivery for the kit.

**Could someone who has one advise me of the length of cables that it comes with as I can't seem to find that info out?

Not measured it but standard is 15m according to Internet

Scrap that as some other posts suggests 25m.

Can't measure mine as it's fixed and been cut.

Sorry useless post really. 😩

UK get shafted again on pricing☹️☹️
Yes it seems so? Here they have reduced price due to gov.es having to comply with EU directive that everyone has high speed internet access so they have launched 100Mb down & 5 up via Hispasat @ 600€ for kit but 100% refunded & 35€per month .that is until January 2024 when it rises to 200Mb down & 10Mb up. + most phone/data packages offer unlimited for anything between 20& 35€/month & many ,including mine, allow European roaming including the Uk but data restricted to ,in my case, 23Gb/month.

'' Found the cable length on set up guide.says 15,1metres: That would be sufficient for me & anything additional would allow me to position it anywhere I wanted in reality.

30m I think. Quite long.

I now have only one more thing left to do before i can start to convert this to 12v and that's run a couple of wires direct from leisure battery to back cupboard which unfortunately is beyond my skill set so will need to get someone to do it. Shame as i wanted to use it on 12v whilst we were away as the EHU on the site we are booked on is very unreliable. At least it arrived though so that's one thing.

Will be leaving tomorrow so this thing is going to get a workout over the next 3 weeks, i will be activating it once we are in Spain around the 10 Dec as thats ironically when my contract starts and ends anyway so will work out pretty good. We are back on New Years eve so will just cancel it again till the next trip, will be the first time we have gone abroad and not having to worry about how much data we are going to use, and of course will be using it for PPV on 23 Dec for boxing although my wife's not happy :)

Good for you! It is liberating having no data use concerns…

I’ve been using mine for 93 days so far all around France, Portugal and Spain. It’s amazing.

I’m collecting all my 12v conversion bits next week when home in UK for Christmas, so will get the conversion to 12v all hooked up and running early Jan when back in Spain. Will post on here when done. ✔️

Good to know, just hope ours will be as reliable as yours has been, will also be good to know if it works once we are parked up on site as we are going to be there for a while but i cant see it being an issue as from what I remember there is nothing that is going to prevent it from seeing the sky unless the site has changed of course.

Let us know how you get on with the 12v conversion though as not many have done it so always good to hear when its complete.

Just a quick update, I have not used the starlink for a few months. Powered it on for the first time in a while yesterday and found it had wiped the setup from when we last used it. Not to much of an issue as it's straight forward enough to go through the setup again. Maybe one to watch out for if not using it regularly. I powered it back on today and it's now ok. Also had 2 updates to install which is to be expected when not in use but does delay you accessing it till its complete.
Speed wise is approx 200mb which is way more than I need. had to turn on the vpn for amazon video though but again to be expected. Same will apply for any content from the UK.
All in all its working as expected.

They would have been fine .... my next project is to strip out the 240v side of the router and just try to connect to the 12/48v side and print my own case for it all. not sure how it will go but hey as ive already butchered the router im not too worried, its not that difficult to just add my own replacement router if it doesnt work out. i think we will be seeing a few more 'ideal replacement routers' or systems to allow 12v connections to hit the market in the next few months and for the price to drop accordingly!
in the Overlanders youtube, im sure he showed how to just strip out the router motherboard from the router casing and discard the mains (110v in their case) voltage converter.

not checked youtube for a while, but this seems to be the next phase that hackers have discovered to power Dishy without using 48v or some method of POE

AND, he has it attached and working through his sunroof - not pretty but it does work and using a different router he has suggested it only uses around 12w per hour - which means it could be permanently connected 24/7 without being too concerned about power usage .....

so my suggestion earlier in the thread re using it through the sunroof actually does work! not sure if its something i would do, but i am really considering hacking Dishy and removing the need for 48v and using a better independant router !

PS the removal of the 48v feed originates from the Ukraine where they have to keep repairing starlinks and wanted to reduce the power needs so it can work out in 'the field' ...

I haven't watched the video but I suspect this refers to the router not the entire system. It will still be using a lot more than that for dishy.

You’ll be pleased in the long run once the wallet has recovered. ✔️
Arrived Tuesday. Fitted on my existing pole outside above the front door. Perfect north facing with out any obstructions.
cable run in took longer doing that over the false ceiling but up & running perfectly with excellent speed up/down. It isn't a 3 but a 2 which actually suits me. Considering most of our internal walls are 2' thick & router is just dumped in the hall way it is achieving good speeds in all the rooms except the back end of the house which is at least 8m away & in opposite direction to the way the router is facing.
As my wife said it doesn't bother us as only used by guests.

30-40w normal system
40-60w with snow melt

if that drops say 15w (if his mod works)
15-25
25-45 ?

handy if you have smaller power setups I spose.

I have no plans to do this modification on mine. I have watched a few of these videos and understand what is being done.

And I'm sure you're not on your own in not wanting to change things, but at least there are options for those who might want to and this seems to be big step forward, especially the work done by the Ukrainian guy who obviously has far more important uses for Starlink than many of us do !!
I also enjoy it when somebody discovers how to do things differently, outside of the norm.

I think his main driver (not the YouTuber) was to limit power use so it stays on for longer when they have limited power. Which is a major factor in their current situation. Interesting to see that the only reason it needs 48v is because of the cable length.
