Starlink ordered… I feel it’s the only sensible option now..

Folks, anyone got a tidy grommet/passthrough solution for getting the cable into the hab area? I’ve been coming through a cracked open window but that won’t do in the winter.

I use the Starkink in the van and also in a holiday home so need something that comes apart and goes back together again easily.

Thanks Jim. Is it not awkward to keep it from being a trip/snag hazard inside the van? I’m normally travelling with daft kids who seem oblivious to most of what’s in front of them.

Not for me, it comes in through the drivers door and meets my Modem which is right there in the footwell

Have a look at post #592 for the solution I’ve used. 👍🏻

Thanks. Maybe I’m missing the obvious, but how does the cable get inside?

Through the roof with a cable junction box. I removed the sat dish, so used existing entry point…

Pretty much the same as myself as i just took out the TV Antenna and made up a box to fit inside this hole and fed the cable through which leads straight into my back cupboard where the Router is.

If anyone is interested i have a spare one of these coming (see link / pic below), i ordered 2 as was cheaper but it allows you to convert to 12v (with additional hardware) without cutting the main cable. Might be useful for some people, will be sold to cover what I paid plus postage, these are very hard to get hold of and there are loads of videos on youtube showing how they are used with the starlink

Is the above something you can just plug in to a 12v socket and go, per the diagrams? Does it still use the original Starlink router?

No it still requires the 12v hardware like a transformer or the dishy dualie, its sole purpose is to to prevent you cutting the cable coming from the dishy which makes it easier to convert to 12v.

Just as a sanity check remind me why the home/residential version can’t be used for us MoHo people ? As i assume we need the “Roam” version, correct ?

I know it’s probably written here is this thread but wondered if anything has changed or indeed if anyone is now using a home version on the road ?

it needs to be in a static location which is the same location you put in your account, you could just keep changing this when you move around but thats a lot of hassle

Carpmart

I think that’s two of those you’ve bought!
I was hoping to get the second one Zac is selling ☹️

no its only 1 as the first one he purchased was the boondocker dishy duolie which this can be used with, from what I can see the sole purpose of this device is so you can use the original lead without cutting it and then connect a standard RJ45 lead to the device used to convert to 12v (in simple terms). there is obviously more to it that this but thats the basics.

Carpmart zac

Shame, I thought it was the solution to my hungry Starlink (y)
The best solution is from what i can see is the dishy dualie (boondocker) along with the Yaosheng v2 adapter (saves cutting cable), that way you wont invalidate any warranty by cutting anything when using it on 12v.

Zac, I think I saw in one of your posts that you thought the power savings on 12v were not that worthwhile compared to 240v through an inverter,
I'm not questioning your point of view but wondering what power the router and dish use on 12v compared to 240v via the inverter.
Any comparative information would be appreciated.
Thanks Martin

I watched a few youtube video's on this a while ago and the difference was not enough for me to worry about but there are loads out there. The most recent one i watched was this one Here the power tests are at the end of that one but there are loads on youtube. Incidentally it has info on how the Yaosheng v2 fits into the mix with 12v

There are other reasons to go 12v though and one of these which i have only recently thought about is when on EHU, i have been on sites where the EHU has not been reliable and if this was then running the starlink it would be rebooting frequently. With this in mind i might convert mine to 12v (still not decided)

AFAIK the main reason for using the above along with the PoE injector is using 12v to power the dish and to ditch the StarLink router in favour of your own router. The StarLink router has very poor range and is IMO quite basic on what it offers

In my opinion there is No point buying the yaosheng poe injector as it costs more than duolie dishy and then you still need a 12v to 48v convertor. Just as well buy the duolie dishy which has the converter built in.

I agree about the starlink router, it is pretty basic that's for sure

I’ve posted these questions more generally on the forum, but am posting here too in the hope of some fellow Starlink user recommendations please!

Just as an aside my wife was looking this morning & said that the monthly cost in France was only40€? Anyone in France using it know if that is correct?
We are definitely considering it here at home now as the signal & mobile signal is never going to get any better. Just need them to do an offer like they did earlier in the summer.

Still 100 on the roam plan. I'll check for home plan now.
