Portugal is now off the green list

Just ignore it. It always tries to tell everyone how they should do whatever it is they’re doing. From building vans to designing their homes. I’m not sure it’s actually a real person.
I agree with a lot of your input but thats a bit unfair IMO, I think we all know that she is a she and Ive enjoyed some very funny exchanges with her over the years.

I welcome the different views expressed. I think its good that we get a balance of views and opinions, it would be a very dull place if we all agreed with each other.

Your first comment is completely wrong, as you simply can’t categorise people like that. I mean, how much money does one need before the entitled clause kicks in? Does it matter how the money was accrued? Family money? Hard work? Lottery? It just doesn’t work like that.

In the grand scheme of things not seeing family is nothing major for you. You can’t speak for others. I can fully understand families wanting to see each other.
Like I said if that’s all they have to worry about then they should man up. Probably got a pocketful of furlough money that they want to spend, or is their human rights or mental health. Get a life.

Oops!

Michael Gove has been ‘pinged’ after arriving back from Portugal. He was there with his son to watch a football game when he came into contact with someone who had tested positive.
Of course he won’t have to isolate like the rest of us would - he is part of a trial involving daily COVID tests.

Pocket full of furlough money? Really its 80% of wages so those already struggling will be even worse off and hardly likely to have a pocket full of cash to burn, more likely to be behind in rent or mortgage etc!

I apologise if I may have given the impression that I was "having a go" at you.
However I am sick and tired of what used to be the paragon of correctness, (the BBC) utilising the media to offer their opinion as news.
Alright, on this occasion they got it right but how many times do they report, early in the day that, " The Prime Minister WILL today say in Parliament etc. etc." One of these days he may not, and serve them right.
That is not news, it is prediction.
SAGA came a cropper two months ago when their cover story, and long article inside was "Prince Philip at 100"
The BBC is on the inner circle of media outlets who receive pre-briefings of what the Government will announce, so can say with certainty, barring a very last minute change or delay, what will happen. The system has become tarnished by the inner circle being reserved for those journalists and their employers who are very supportive [fawning] of WM Government policy [Peston, Kuennssberg et al}.

Aren't those exactly the same journalists and organisation that a lot on here don't like because they are seen as being too critical of the government!.

Portugese health guy on repeat on Sky News querying why they ve been downgraded.

Be careful with the armchair, the loofah and the kettle, as per my previous post. None of those are perfectly safe but on the face of it they would seem incredibly safe.
Why you'd be messing about with a loofah, kettle and armchair at the same time I don't know but whatever 'fetish' you have please keep it to yourself!

I heard him say it, he was most emphatic IMO.
He said incredibly safe not perfectly safe, the latter being what MT had stated JVT had said, both mean different things hence my query.

I appreciate what you say about the "inner circle" but it an abuse of the word, 'news'.
They should use the privilege of that information to produce a better product rather than trying to score media points against their opposition.

The BBC. Lots on here think they are anti government biased especially on b*****t but somehow pro government biased on covid. Could it just be the bbc are looking at the evidence.

As the Portugese health guy says and our very own statistician agrees, there isnt much difference between us and them we re both very low, neither of us have got high hospital admissions so why bother.

Yep hate the BBC, can't wait for it to either get chopped or become a regular public service broadcaster.

At what point would you consider the China bug vaccine to be 'perfectly safe'?

Maybe thats what has triggered the Amber for Portugal? Hundreds have been told to isolate after being on flights back with people with positive tests. Having the Champions league final, with 2 English teams in Portugal was complete madness! Wembley was available, but UEFA, refused because UK Gov wouldnt relax quarantine for their officials and press etc!😩
We were slow with India and Government have been slaughtered!, we have been quick with Portugal, Government slaughtered again😷
At least we now know, that if a country goes on the green list, you only have a guaranteed 3 weeks window to visit, before it could change!😀

I actually like the BBC. I don't think they're perfect but compared to most of the media if there's an article on something I know a bit about they're more often pretty accurate whereas the papers especially tend to want to make it sensationally good or bad.
On the travel I think Portugal and us at the moment are on a similar upwards trajectory. I can see why they feel travel ought to continue but as the government have not released any information on what case level counts for a country being on the green list we have no idea if it's due to the cases the variants embarrassment at the Indian variant action or whatever. It does seem strange allowing holiday travel at all when we aren't out of restrictions even in our own country yet.

You've got to wonder how then did so many end up having to isolate. If they were exposed to covid from other English fans the same would have happened if the game was at Wembley. If it was at the airport then no travel through airports can be considered safe.
I suspect 3 weeks could not absolutely be guaranteed!

The 3 weeks is guaranteed, because they review every 3 weeks!
I dont know how it was set up in Portugal, but I think when they had fans in stadia here, all fans had to have a negative test before entry.
Its all a learning curve. Try this, try that! Hopefully learn from our mistakes.🤔

Football stadium equals outside openish space moving air virus disperses.

Flight in Aeroplane probably not so bad because air continually changed.

Airport lounge, bus/train to airport, airbridge/bus to plane and inside bars/restaurants = still air aerosol gathers.

Listen to David Mitchell's rant about the BBC on "have I got news for you", I believe that he is spot on with what he is saying, its at about 18 minutes 20 seconds

Well, it's news in the sense that it is new information; but it has become more WM propaganda than what Lord Chief Justice Denning's 'Man on the top deck of the Clapham omnibus' might describe as news

As previously stated, as much as we love European travel, it’s a no no for us this year, too many ifs and buts, variations in covid spikes everywhere, why take the risk ? Sad for people who took the European risk but that’s the consequences of risking it.

With respect i don't think your sarcastic remark is called for and adds nothing to the debate, people are entitled to their view regardless of how many times they may mention it.
Just my view, and certainly no offence meant.
Looks like some people may have had their 'humour' gene removed. :giggle: I hoped that Glenn would come back with a silly remark and we could have a bit of light relief but obviously not.

Oh dear ... I am very much a real person ... and female if that matters. I'd rather give assistance/suggestions which people have every right to ignore than not bother at all ... without 'interaction' this forum would be pretty boring. I'm curious ... did you have any objection to the comments by others on the threads you are alluding? No? ... hmmm, why is that?

That's certainly not how your comment came across.......

I respect your view, but unless you are going to lock yourself away for the foreseeable, the same applies here in the UK doesn't it?,
There is no reason to think that there is more risk in Europe than here, particularly with our type of holiday.
I wouldn't get on a plane, or use a hotel, here or abroad, but i think it would be safe enough in my van, no more risk than sainsburys IMV, shou.d the rules change while away, as you say that's the risk you take.
But each to their own.

My opinion so don't shout me dowm,Those who want to carry on as best they can do so,Those who wan't still be carefull do so, This is not going to be gone for some time so we need to start living with it we cant hide away for ever,We have been away 4 times now to wales and devon and enjoyed it ,We have booked France but can't see us going, We went last August when we new very little about covid ! 5 of us and we never caught it, Everyone can have there own opinion some are still worried let them be we are all different, good luck which ever you choose for me time to get out there again.
