P&O Ferries told to stay in port

I always thought my ni payments were for my state pension and the tax i paid was to help run the country🤓?
That's a common misconception. If that was the case there would have been no state pensions when the welfare state was introduced until people had paid enough in for their pot to fund a pension so no full state pension until the 1980,s

Not sure what you mean by “immigration unchecked “ but the figure you quoted is the current national living wage for people aged 23 plus
It's also the earnings required to obtain a work visa for the UK. Other than no criminal record it is the only criteria.

I always thought my road fund licence was for constructing and maintaining roads.

Which makes it all the more likely that Boris had discussed it with the big boss on his UAE trip. Although I'm not sure what deal could have been made as it seems BJ came away from that meeting with his begging bowl still empty.
Do you have inside knowledge? If not, why stir the pot?

Wishful thinking on your part, for something that has clearly been planned and organised probably for months beforehand

Discussing it and planning it are 2 totally different things. Do you not think it came up in conversation at all?

I had a ferry booked for May.Hull to Europort.I have cancelled it and will never travel with them again. The treatment of these people is beyond contempt.
I will join your club and not use / book any P&O service again.
I hope the government acts on this or it will be a green light to other companies to treat employees this way.

Are you sure, see post #266 from John Barrett which is what I thought applied, like I said, I am not an accountant but when I did the books for my Marine Consultancy that is what I would go by to pay dividends to my staff
Yes, I’m sure. Usually bigger corporations wait until year end, see what the profits are then vote dividends. However, dividends can be voted and paid at anytime during the accounting year.

Planning….. you believe what you want to believe. I have carried out an almost identical exercise involving 40 staff and it took months and was cast in stone about 3 months before the event

Sounds like you were involved in the planning of your exercise. I am wondering about the discussion side of things. 2 different things as I have already said.

As part of a Duracell development ( ) team it took us nearly year to close the Daimon battery factory in Cologne; individual staff interviews, appointment and funding of financial advisors for staff, negotiations with the Unions, Workers' Councils, tax authority, city planning authority.......
It took only 6 weeks to close the Superpila battery factory in Florence.

Yes, it was discussed with nobody outside the planning people. Nobody at all. Information security was crucial. you do not “discuss” with anyone. And no, I am not proud of it but it was a necessary action for a loss making business.

In the Mid East we could do pretty much as we wanted provided we followed the labour laws which applied what ever the reason for termination ( I hated having to compensate someone who I fired for lamping someone) so it was a bit easier. Still took months to organise and make sure that nobody got wind of it….only the EVP for the region in head office knew

That's all great but the sacking of 800 people in the P&O case was discussed with others meaning the government knew it was to happen before BJ had a meeting with the head honchos in the UAE. It wouldn't be madness to suggest then, that it may have came up in conversation.

That is all I am saying. No Boris bashing or stirring as others have suggested.
