Nordic travel plans August / September 2017

evening all, had another very productive day today, mileage wise, mending things and marriage saving :)(y)

woke up early, lovely day, got up got dressed and walked Lola, Bev said you coming back to bed for a bit? I'm dressed now I replied long before I remembered it was her birthday o_Oo_O

had coffee bread and gin marmalade (loving it Carolyn thanks) set off around 8 soon realised they have the same lorry driving ban as the French, not been to Germany for years, so agreed to try and make some decent progress into the run to Denmark with what we hoped would be light traffic, all going well then the radio and reverse cameras suddenly stopped, nothing serious, radio wasn't on anyway and the camera is a nice to have (daren't say otherwise on here :LOL:) pulled in after 80 miles about 10:00 for coffee and look at probable fuse failure, short story all fixed, funsters are brilliant quick post loads of input, it literally felt like I had half a dozen funsters stood with me fixing it (y)(y)

Now in the past I have called Belgian roads sh1t, but based on today I retract 90% of that, certainly compared to the M25 / M20 farce of a road, it is billiard table smooth in the main, a lot of freshly surfaced, I did wonder if it would stop when we got to Brussels, it did a bit but still much better than I recall (y)(y)

What is amazing is comparing yesterday to today, 299 miles today in 6 hours, compared to yesterday 351 in over 8 hours, not so far apart in miles per hour but the quality of the drive was poles apart, virtually no stress at all, certainly not on the Belgian and Dutch bits, only negative really is the disgusting amount of human excrement in the motorway aires, not sure what they expect with no toilets and a weekend ban on lorry movements, there are thousands of lorries parked up everywhere. But that is a minor negative in a great days driving. maybe excepting the German bit, bugger do they drive fast o_Oo_O 2 lanes and in a few places torrential rain, they don't give an inch tailgating has never been this close in the UK. We were simply observing, very rarely daring out of the inside lane if there were three lanes and I could see nothing for a good way back (y)

We are now parked up on a Stellplatz, first time in Germany with a motorhome for us, picked a distance then let Campercontact find a place, Wildeshausen, €5 includes electrics, free dump and fresh water 50c as far as we can tell, certainly fresh water isn't free, but right no it is persisting, we have been out to hook up and pay at slot machine for ticket

I have also ventured into the stock room which our garage has become, looks like the road hump earlier has done some harm to our 'budget' range of stacking boxes, 2 are now packed inside each other, looks like the crisps may now be crumbs :(:( but the beer and tonic is safe (y)(y)

this is us for the last two days, three countries in the same day 2 days running, tomorrow we can easily get to the junction between the D and e of Denmark on map, 235 miles, setting us up nicely for a drive over both bridges to Sweden on Tuesday morning, possibly even all the way to Norway :):)(y)(y)

Put our first non UK fuel in today 60 litres on a motorway service area @ €1,30 litre, then drove past some at €1.11 on a ring road rather than motorway, but technically this fuel was free (y)(y) found a pile of euros at home as we set of so paid cash, will be doing the same before crossing into Denmark, love free fuel :LOL:

Cooked Bev a birthday curry for dinner, UK chicken from our butchers, pre diced and bagged we have 10 more in freezer and 10 bags of minced steak, curries and chillies for the next few days (y)(y)

This aire doesn't seem to have anything nearby at all, no problem for us at all, not really sure why there are so many here, 17 pitches all bar three now in use, it is also raining too hard to go out so very happy we had in all we needed

Except a spare birthday card maybe :( didn't find flowers, so contributions on here very gratefully received :)(y) by both of us

Will post a couple of photos tomorrow when the sun is shining again (y) still sticking with shorts as I am on holiday and it is August :)

Not sure if Bev is playing mind games but she has put a DVD on 'Couples Retreat' I had never heard of it , but the whole thing is about marriage relationships o_O

But she did like the curry and is smiling a lot at the DVD :)(y)

When we went to Denmark Diesel was cheaper than in Germany.
Maybe ask someone going the other way that has just been. (y)

We tried to buy a load of cheap booze at the border, but because we never had a address in Denmark they would not sell it to us, ;) left it all on the checkout belt. :ROFLMAO:
All the Danish were loading it into cars and caravans.

Make sure you lights are On all the time, safe trip. (y) Bob.

Is that the same for Denmark, Sweden and Norway?

Not too hard to do as our headlights go off with ignition, so can leave turned on all the time, but I hadn't realised it applied to Denmark so thanks for that (y)(y)

Your Hymer must have grown wings:LOL::LOL: as your not quite half way from Calais to Malmo yet!! Hamburg is a bit of a nightmare, traffic wise, the route to Denmark only delayed us an hour or so in June , the other way around delayed us 3 hours on the way back.... So be up early!!

Happy birthday Bev
:birthday::birthday::birthday::birthday::birthday::birthday::birthday::wine::wine::wine::wine::party2::party2::party2::party2::party2::birthday:

The information in our map says dipped headlights.

Speed limit in Denmark, for a MH above 3.5T is only 70 KMPH, motorways included.... We kept to 90:rolleyes::rolleyes:... No idea if it was enforced...

80 KMPH in Norway which everybody kept to... Was told it could be 750€ fine if flashed by a camera... Traced through EPL...

Beautiful start to the day, sun in sky, Bev is smiling, looks like I got away with yesterday, but I fear there may be a trap for later in my life at some point :)

this is where we spent last night, almost a mini site, room for 17 MH's with a car park that acted as overflow last night for 2 more

Bev has gone to look for a geo cache o_O we failed to find in near darkness yesterday o_O we fail more than we find o_O, but Bev seems to find it fun (y) I am supposed to be tidying up ready to leave

Heading for what everybody says is traffic jam city in Europe Hamburg, so heres hoping Monday doesn't seem the best time to attack. although we wont be there until after lunch

Just dump and refill then off :)(y)

Enjoy and safe travels!

evening all, well into Denmark now, we did consider covering 3 countries in one day again by going all the way to Sweden, the worked out it would need us to drive over 400 miles so kicked that idea into touch, TBH we are getting on each others nerves sat side by side for so many miles / hours three days on the trot

So today we limited to 292 miles, another 6 hours driving though o_O but we have no very much broken the back of the journey here, I will be researching the next couple of days journeys tonight

We have found a little gem of a site for tonight, another camper contact, Nyborg, Denmark, 14457, like a farm UK CL, 100 DK for the night including electrics :)(y)

Absolutely nothing to walk to, but a lovely quiet location, lovely host, excellent English which is really good as I cant even say hello in Danish o_O

back with plans for tomorrow after tea (y)

couple of add on to above, just worked out we have paid the princely sum of £12 to stay here, a lot for a field, but includes electrics, never really intended to wild camp until we got to Norway anyway, also still have an issue with needing mains power to charge my laptop, will get a new plug in inverter brought across by A + R on the 6th Sept, until then you might have to wait for photos

Got past Hamburg with no real issue traffic wise, loads of road works going on but not really affecting northbound, but southbound for most of yesterday and today has been seriously slow and stopped on a lot of occasions, will be looking for an alternative route home from Hamburg down although the southbound approach to Hamburg was pretty serious as well o_O

this ways todays drive

Speed limits and headlights in Denmark :)

The law as far as google seems to confirm is dipped headlights at all times and max 70kph if over 3.5T

However, try driving at anything under 56mph you will be pushed for a bit and then overtaken by lorries even though the signs tell them no overtaking, either the law has been changed, or it isn't policed, we ended up doing TT 55mph more or less 90 kph to match the other lorries, even then at a converging motorway intersection we got overtaken by a wide load and escorts, who then proceeded to overtake everything for miles again despite the signs for no overtaking and causing traffic chaos behind him. So none the wiser on that

or on driving lights, we have everything, dipped headlights on around 50% of all cars, Germans no lights all they don't even seem to have the DRL's the rest of Europe has, then of the rest I think Denmark registered may have DRL's which bring on rear lights unlike us, but the obviously new cars, including Danish registered have DRL's and no rear lights and loads drive with those on only, so none the wiser on that one either :)(y)

back to planning the next few days .......

It's a blooming long way to Norway o_Oo_O

upload_2017-8-21_19-26-18.png

we have still got 648 km which in our money is still 402 miles :(, so still not likely to happen tomorrow o_O

no problem there, we only need to cross the border by 18:00 Wednesday to comply with the pet passport, presuming it even gets checked, we went through a pretty serious looking armed border control Germany to Denmark, traffic slowed to a crawl and one vehicle ahead of us pulled over for something, we were waved through (y)

Now I have checked the miles I think we will make the most of the double bridge crossing tomorrow, if weather is nice stop and view if and where we can, then look to overnight somewhere near Gothenburg, which is just about on daily preferred limit of 300 miles (y)

leaving us only 130 miles to Norway (y)(y), although we would hope to get to Lillehammer (another 300 miles from Gothenburg)

Oddly though for as big as Norway looks, we only have a 400 miles from the border to Bud on the coast below Trondheim (y)(y), which we will be arriving at on Friday at Bud, Thursday night hopefully top of Trolls ladder :)(y)

Hang on in there Judith and Martin, Gin, tonic and baked beans are on the way :LOL: not in the same glass :)(y)

All that planning and you've just worked out how far it is :D

Can you see the sea......;)

as soon as we can I promise to post the news and a photo or 2, from Norway that is

technically we have already crossed the sea today and will do twice more tomorrow, so that will also get recorded, although todays earlier crossing didn't :)

morning all, before I forget to add we sneaked some more fuel in yesterday, another 60 odd litres as close as I dared to leave it in Germany before we got to Denmark and the currency changed, €1.21 / litre on the motorway, so not bad compared to UK

Also saw they have super duper unleaded 100 octane compared to our 95 / 97 in UK

Back to today, made an early start got two serious bridges to deal with, site only a few miles from the first and we set before 8 having opted for toasting the last half of our UK sliced loaf, with marmalade, what else :)(y)

photos courtesy and used with permission of co pilot Bev :):)(y)(y)

the toll worked, me and my luck expected to have use the intercom, but we braved the auto line and up the barrier went, I have been observing other vehicles, when I fitted the pass it said coaches and lorries to attach at top of screen, so I did similar, now wonder if it picks up height by that and have just lowered more in line with all vans I have spotted where it is mounted at base of windscreen, too late for the first bridge, but the major crossing the Orendsun comes next

sun is now out big style 20C and very pleasant day, hope to get some good pictures at next bridge, the Danes don't make anything of the first one, despite being over 10 miles long in total and busier than the QE2 bridge :)(y)
