Nordic travel plans August / September 2017

When it goes dark it will be really dark, don't remember any of the campsites/roads having lighting, certainly not the wild camping/laybys etc... torches required.

Hide the gin, doubt if you are allowed more than one litre each...

You didn't mention passports either:LOL:

Bon voyage ! X

Will follow with interest @DavidG58 have a great time,

Whittles

So day one complete, packed, Lola to vets .......

do you have an appointment?

no, I have come in to ask the time? o_Oo_O

yes, passport check, pretty critical we cant really go without, not really true, but going into a weekend very reduced options for European checks for getting into Norway as planned, possibly on Monday

so, they have booked us into their Sheffield vets, nobody knows quite why we never go there, but they do at least have a vet on site at our clinic, she has never done a passport and doesn't know what to do, proven a few lines down

Lola is weighed and checked over, chip identified and confirmed, worm tablets administered (y)(y)

Oh, says the vet I don't have a stamp, but it should be alright o_Oo_O

Oh no it wont I say, all the others are stamped, but she insists she doesn't have a stamp, but they do have a clinic stamp, looked back at all other French ones, that appears to be all they are, so all OK again (y)(y)

Paid £80 :( £40 was for 2 x 3 monthly tablet dose of flea and tick which does work really well, so pretty much in line with French pricing, until they realise they have not added a consultation charge, to which I say you had your chance, £80 is more than enough and they agree

Just about to leave and have a quick, very lucky, look at Lolas passport, so very lucky, there are 2 places to fill in, only one has been done, not sure if it would have been picked up at Norway border but not a good place to find out if they did, all now sorted all filled in, no more money paid (y)

but now 7:30 not 6:20 as it should have been when I came out

so, motorhome miles covered today zero :( maybe about 100 feet as I turned it round o_O

we are now setting off at 06:30 tomorrow to go via baby Jacob and Natalie his mum our eldest, in Coventry, are you all keeping up :):), then on to tunnel

still nicely excited though :):)(y)(y) and we can double check everything is packed (y)

already well hidden, the clear plastic boxes in the garage didn't hide much o_O so relocated around MH, if inspected they might wonder why we have so much tonic water though :)

we are crossing the border by road, looking to come in on the road above Oslo, to miss that potential jam, knowing our luck it will now be an unmanned border point

Phew after weeks nay months you are finally on your way!!!!
Safe travels and I really do hope you enjoy it!!!!

Spent a morning in Bud yesterday and drove past the campsite on the way out. From the road it looked very nice, certainly in a nice situation.

No mossies here yet but a few midges last night.

No Northern Lights yet but it was darkish at 10.30 last night so that's more promising.

Have a wonderful time .Looking forward to reading this thread. Lots of photos and humour :-)

So its now technically day 2, but still day 1 as we didn't move yesterday o_O

set alarm on new phone last night for 06:05 this morning, so Bev didn't set hers, as I had mine done, must find rules, 06:30 this morning we woke up just about the time we planned to be moving off, still no real pressure we have 10 hours to get to Folkestone(y)

head off to daughters at Coventry, wave bye to the east around J27 M1, bye Debbie :), not sure how many others we passed so apologies if you live close to M1 or M40 or M25 or M20 @Chris we did think about you but didn't know which bit of Kent you owned to wave at and only skirted through a corner :)(y)

daughters by 8:30 though all back on track, bacon and egg butties and we get on our way at 09:30 after cuddles with Jacob who has taken his first step this week :)(y), he will be one next month while we are away, please don't remind Bev (y) she knows but doesn't need reminding :)

now traffic starting to get daft, luckily for us mostly north bound toward Birmingham on M40, 2 very odd incidents we think must must be related, but 2 sets of really posh looking cars, Rolls, Ferraris big Audis etc about 10 cars in total all on hard shoulder with multiple police cars boxing them in, over to you NMC what happened :LOL:

so because they are stopped the whole northbound M40 has ground to a halt and we are in danger of doing the same, but no rush on we plod, we had just done what turned out to be a drive through at Warwick services looking for LPG, still only to be sure we had full cylinders, but they don't do gas anymore so carried on down to Beaconsfield where we got some last year. Pulls on to LPG pump, sort of, a big Yank 4 x 4 is parked about 5' from the pump with his bonnet up, but we can just reach. Have a chat with driver, looks too young to drive let alone something that size, but he had started and stalled and now has a flat battery, I offer him a jump start as we have extra long leads. he gratefully accepts, we get bonnet up and I advise him I have 'all the gear but no idea' so he will need to connect them. He says that's OK I am good for that, then asks where is our battery :) under floor somewhere inside, but at least I know we have jump points under bonnet o_O

just then we are rushed by forecourt attendants to say we cant do a jump start on the forecourt, as nobody was fuelling I could not really see the risk, but they agreed to push him back once I had fuelled, which they did. We then set about jump starting but the young lad really had no more idea than me, he is just full of that youthful enthusiasm 'I can do anything' attitude that luckily, I have just about matured out of :):) young lad connects his end then we cant find a black pillar to match the red one on ours, but I say clip it on the metal bracket here, which we did and it didn't work, so he says move it to the engine, which he did, jumping back still holding the black cable saying 'it sparked, they must be connected the wrong way round, I'll swap my end round'

No you won't, or at least if you do you are not bringing the cables anywhere near my MH, I checked his end which was right, took control of the black cable offered the end to metal nothing happened so connected it, he started and off he went a very happy young couple :) hope they hadn't nicked it  did make me think after just how much damage could have been done to our MH and this trip had he connected them wrong way round o_Oo_O still it didn't happen and we are now waiting at Folkestone

BTW we got LPG 19 litres of the stuff, I am sure we have not filled since Easter at Chester on the way in, so 20 + nights 50% not on EHU all cooking by gas, so pretty good

Arrived to be told there are delays, despite at only 3:00 receiving an email saying it was important to turn up on time as they are very busy, just as I started to write this post they have actually just pulled our time back forward, so we are now in the queue for the train at 16:50 we think, actually still half an hour late, but not too bad given as we still have another38 days to go :):)

next stop France or Belgium, possibly Holland, will let you know where, when we know :)(y)

Nothing on twitter re the incident.

I have never had a gin and tonic.

Have a great time you two(y)

well Belgium it is, not really sure how nice it is as we drove in on the very last bit of light, a place called Bellen

dangerously close to another phrase used against me by some :LOL:

beside a canal close to the main road through to Brussels, although not as close to as it might have been, Tom Tom v Bev wars broke out again tonight and I was accused of siding with my lady inside the TT o_O, neither of us spotted the 2.7m bridge sign till we got to it, well technically I had spotted it but also saw another road just before, which when we got to it had a 2m height limit :(

turning round, luckily on a very quiet road then resulted in a sally traffic moment with road closure and knock on effects coming to mind, in reverse I beached the rear end, no problem we have air assist which I deployed via the remote, that became an event closely akinned to watching grass grow, nothing happened for what seemed like ages and with a couple of cars now waiting and a patient cyclist I was forced to restart by pulling off and parking while the lift took place, now Viagra isn't exactly quick, but it seems quicker than waiting for the air suspension to get round to anything, but get round to it it did, we turned round, then I realised that Mrs TT was no good to me as we drove away from the bridge she requested U turns, but Bev has an iPad with a map and could be quite useful here right now, so quick bit of creeping Bev offers her mapping services, within a few yards they both agreed again, thank goodness (y)(y)

parked up with about 8 others, turns out there is a north and south aire, both free, both alongside the canal, Bev went to south on her maps but gave me the address for north, it was never going to end well, but we ended up on north, but all well, if rather tired, 320 miles 8 hours behind the wheel I hope is the maximum we spend driving this holiday, or we will never make it back o_O not married at least :(

photos tomorrow :)(y)

Many thanks @Riverbankannie we were north side and left before reading your post, luckily it is Sunday and we will console ourselves by saying it would have been shut :)(y)

Just re-read yesterdays account, by beached that sounds like I ran into a bank, it was actually a very steep side road off the one we were on, decent scrape on underside but not the first o_O and corrected this morning on a serious road hump, so hopefully anything bent back last night has now been pushed forward

lovely little aire, absolutely no facilities except bins, but really quiet lovely and dark, clear starry skies last night, may they continue until we get north enough for the aurora's (note the multiple wish there)

20th August (Bevs birthday) who forgot the card, did think about saying it was at home, but admitted full on after breakfast because technically I really had forgotten, when I made the daft statement while looking at my new phone which said is Saturday 19th, surely it is the 20th (had an Oh bollocks its your birthday thought in my head and apologised followed by wishing her happy birthday)

Not too sure how badly that went, hoping to spot a flower shop option today to make amends, it is a lovely sunny day, moved on another 100 miles stopped for coffee and mend minor problem with MH, blown fuse so no radio, new camera or 12V socket o_O

all resolved thanks to help from you lot on another thread :):)(y)(y)

Loving your Norse Saga @DavidG58 already & it's only episode one.

I know you've done months of planning & research but remember for all that its only a guideline, an aspiration. Let the adventure, the road, Bev & Lola be your timetable :D2.

Happy Birthday Bev
Hope you have a wonderful adventure
