Nordic travel plans August / September 2017

I am easily confused, but took me a , while to work out what the flip you were on about Debbie, thought I had missed another birthday, second wife for example, or little sis maybe, but like Annie now I get it as well (y)(y) :) Happy Birthday Annie xx

No prizes for guessing (working out where we are tonight) (y)(y)

actually now I look again it is hard to read on the photos, so to save wasted effort, we are at the 1996 Olympic ski jump, can't recall now but might have been Eddie the Eagles launch pad :)

Only a car park and 100K £10 to park over night, but level good views and a beautiful evening to mark our last out days long drive (y)(y)

this is our driving effort for the past 2 days (y)

from tomorrow we massively reduce daily miles, although tomorrow is a withdrawal day :):)

only 165 miles (y)(y)

Didn't Top Gear drive a mini off that ski jump

My excuse is, I'm a year older today...and look what I got from daughter and SIL

I just thought you would enjoy the gin picture!

Lovely sunset, looks clear, fingers crossed for aurora watching but you need to be patient and if you do see them, they will not be so green as shown in photos.

been out for a quick check on aurora, no chance someone left the lights on the ski jump o_O

not to mention some oik in a Hymer with his awning light :LOL:

Good morning David and Bev, and not forgetting Lola. I was awake early so decided I would start at the beginning of this thread and catch up! Wow, so much planning etc and now you are experiencing it all. Very envious, and will be following your adventure on a daily basis from now on. Enjoy your trip and I hope the gin lasts!!

another sunny day here in Lillehammer, been for a stroll and looked up the ski jump, contemplated the 800 steps again and returned for more coffee :)(y)

amazingly this is real grass in the foreground, freshly mown this morning

a bit of wildlife, common on the western isles, but more so here, a hooded crow

Trolls Ladder road today hopefully after the rest of todays tourists, its about 3 hours away, hoping for stop points for looking and photographing on the way, spoke to an English couple been over here for 90 days already and no plans for returning just yet, they drove to the bottom of the road, stopped at a café and decided their elderly MH wouldn't cope with the hill, if it got up they didn't fancy coming back down, but they did add there appeared to be convoys of coaches and MH's snaking up (and down)

we will be parked at the top (if we go) and if allowed :)(y)

Crazy! Mad enough doing it when there's snow but on that artificial stuff, that's gotta hurt when you crash...

Have fun on Trolls Ladder - will Bev be keeping her eyes open?
I know there are huge distances involved but I do hope you're not doing too much driving & not enough "doing"...

Just had a catch up, must be so fulfilling seeing all the planning come to reality, the weather looks as if it's behaving now as well.

evening all, thanks for your concerns Stephen (y)(y) but we are for now mission accomplished, more or less on the coast, now ready to start our tour for real, we were always concentrating on the northern bit, the sacrifice was long driving to get here and potentially missing lots on the way. we see it as a reccae for next time (y)

Today we have only done 150 miles and this will be the longest for a long time, short hops now up the coast, hopefully some 2 nighters on the way, then the Lofoten Islands, now we know for sure we have got here we can now plan the next few weeks

the last part of todays journey in from Lillehammer gave us increasingly bigger and bigger scenery, stopping at the visitor centre for the trolls valley, took these

while Debbie by accident scared the beejeezus out of Bev, not helped by you Stephen either, or me I guess for reading it out o_O Bev was proper terrified and wanted to stay down in the valley :( while I went up, but my plan was to overnight at the top

we had a chat I calmed her down and we agreed to set off and have a look from the bottom....

When you get there you will realise it was a doddle... Other routes you take later will be much worse... I'll say no more...;);)

We parked exactly where you are in the photo of the layby at the bottom.

I'm a bit confused ... Have you driven the Trollstigen road (up or down) and where are you now?

I think his last post was at the car park at the bottom and he was about to start the ascent..

Then from the top (y)(y), all bar one bend was OK for me, I really don't like heights, but taking this photo got my feet sweating :(

IMG_3052.JPG

the photo doesn't show how high we were and sat out on a steel frame away from the rock o_Oo_O

Bev both survived and enjoyed the trip and we are now parked up at the new (ish) visitor centre at the top (y)(y)

Thought be must have. At least he missed the touristy Geirangerfjorden route both up and down.

Though he should have arrived at the top by now, perhaps he is waiting for it to get dark so Bev. can't see drop!!!:LOL:
