Noisy dogs

One of the great things about dogs on sites is that they can help break ice and get neighbours talking. We've met some lovely people and made friendships as a result (y)

Most people can’t resist making a fuss of these two, and they insist on being fussed !!

not a conscious decision or anything, but I find its almost exclusively dog owners I end up chatting to

OK..... I can't help myself..... Why should anyone be forced to go to a dog-free site to get away from ill-trained/ behaviourally challenged mutts. All praise to those who take rescue dogs with behavioural issues....but if you travel in a van and stay places where there are other people and dogs then don't be surprised if some ( maybe even most) people don't take to your barking hounds. I don't dislike dogs I just value peace and quiet ( except of course the 'silent footstep'...no-one likes scraping that off the soles of their shoes!).
We have had 7 weeks so far in Spain and Portugal and the only problem we have really had, apart from kids, but then it's now the Easter holidays, has been constantly barking dogs.
For goodness sake tell the barking mini-wolf to be quiet. At least most people do tell their noisy kids.
Case in point...Aire in Spain ...constantly barking Cockapoo... no chastisement. Meanwhile I was completely unaware that 2 vans up had 3 dogs. Never heard a peep. Didn't even know they were there.
Putting on my suit of armour now. ( And standing just behind Chaser).

Holy s#$t

Looks like I've logged in to motorhome nofacts or the motorhome caravan club from circa 2010.

Moan moan moan...

If it wasn't dogs it would be something else.. I'm glad my noisey clearly untrained dog that can't sniff out covid 19 from a box of dog treats gives all these motorhomers something to help them forget about real world problems..

Happy Easter...

not disagreeing with you. I dont like constant 'typically' little dog syndrome either. My two rarely bark (in fact one of them doesnt bark ever, too old and cant be arsed). They dont even react when an almost always, tiny dog, goes mental at them as we walk by.

I think the point is, we all know what a god send it is to live in a house in a nice area, with neighbours you actually like or at least have common decency or respect for other peoples wishes. Chances of that occurring on a campsite full of randoms (whether it be noisy dogs, children or adults for that matter), probably not great.

Was it he who also said, "i like children but couldn't eat a full one", ?

And still the selfish owners won't take the hint.

When on site, I will try to interrupt any behaviour like barking but dogs do bark and if somebody is really adverse to barking they should go to a dog free site. We all have choices.
There may be choices available but there may not be a dog-free site to go to. People paying for a pitch would not expect to have their days and/or nights disturbed by dogs barking on the site. Those people may have problems or sorrows of their own which may be exacerbated by noise, including from barking dogs. People do make many choices about all sorts of things and some choose to own a dog with a history of difficulties that cannot be overcome. I can see that this could be a very difficult situation, but should it impinge upon other people who simply want a relatively peaceful holiday?

I have never had anyone complain about my dog barking. She will only bark if somebody comes close to the van or if she recognises them and wants to greet them. I will then interrupt that behaviour, as I said before.

To clarify, I wouldn’t want my dog constantly barking. My point was that everyone has differing tolerances and what some people class as annoying barking could just be the occasional yap. If someone is really bothered by something, they should remove themselves from that situation.
That doesn’t mean that people should accept barking dogs 24/7, that would drive any animal lover mad let alone the dog haters.
On the other hand, If you go on a site which allows dogs you have to accept that there will be “some” barking. It’s what they do…..they are not robots, they communicate.

The clarification is helpful in making your views clearer. Of course dogs may bark occasionally. Constant dog barking is a different matter and when it bothers people then the site management may decide it is the dog and its owner/s which will move on.
Objecting to excessive dog barking does not mean the objector is a dog hater, far from it. One can object to excessive dog barking out of real concern for the dog as well as for one's own mental health and well-being.
We had sleepless nights in Portugal because of dog barking and haven't been back to Portugal since, so in the long term we removed ourselves from the problem. It is not always so easy in the short term.

Sorry if we have disturbed anyone’s peace here at Chester.

Buzz barks when he is excited - usually because I am not walking fast enough or have stopped for a natter 🤣

Mostly though he is happy cuddling up with his ‘babies’ in the van.

Gorgeous boy 🥰

Our dogs only bark for a reason. Border collies are great watchdogs, though lousy guard dogs.
I have always found that constantly barking dogs are invariably little ones, perhaps some overcompensation

Another reason in the book of why i don't use campsites

Theres people.

If it was just dogs id maybe go.
But moaning untrained people ... can't be doing with them, yapping all the time.
That's made me curious, when you pitch up and there's a group of abandoned dogs roam free... are they always barking?

Kerry doesn't bark, she can but chooses not to (too much effort)... I think I've heard her bark three times in the 4+ years I've had her... that's 3 barks... not three barking sessions.

Yeah most of them do ... especially when cars drive past. Many of them appoint themselves as your guard dogs too and sleep under the van and then bark when anyone comes near.

Dogs bark , birds sing , people talk . Thats just how it is.

Although granted milo barks at flies sometimes and it does my head in . But jade and ela don't bark much. Ela whines if theres food about

We make a point of telling people about his past, to make sure they understand why he is like he is. As for any “normal” dog owner it can be hard to understand why this little dog is so angry.

We’ve got a Patterdale, she can have an argument in an empty room 😂

Just not keen on other dogs especially ones that run up to her thinking it’s okay time.

We tell other dog owners on walks she’s antisocial but they still let their dog g by ours on those stupid extendable leads 🙄

We have three young Labradors living next door. They wake the whole street when they start barking.
Our muttly hasn’t barked since we adopted him a year ago apart from in his sleep.

Why do the owners of pesky little yappy dogs allow them to yap yap yap endlessly at anyone or anything that dares to move while on an otherwise peaceful site. People passing by, birds flying past, the faint rumble of waste-master wheels etc etc etc. C’mon eh, a bit of training won't do them any actual harm, in fact it might stop them being so anti-social.
All I can say is - Sorry....
We do try to stop them when they start and we do implement training on regular basis to stop barking short when starts.

I have some sympathy with those mo’homers who, thinking they’ve found an idyllic where they can be at one with nature suddenly get interrupted by a cacophony of barking dogs. Usually when one starts the others don’t want to be out-barked! Perhaps if sites are designated’dog-friendly’ that should flag a warning to peace lovers. Additionally, whilst we have adult only sites, maybe we should revise that to humans only! Just a thought?

I believe there are dog free sites although few and far between. I've never been on one yet.
