Noisy dogs

…… and how are your neighbours?

They will have a BIG influence on its behaviour.

Ian

Our next door neighbour with the quite well trained dogs has taken the boxer out for walks a few times to try and educate it in how it should be behaving, but I think even he will have his work cut out, but early days yet.

Well intentioned, but ………
Owner problem not the dogs fault. Shoot em and I’m not saying which 😊

Friends who had a well behaved boxer lost him to illness at only three years old, they said they wouldn’t have another.
They turned up on the fields about three months ago with a three month old boxer, they used a long 30 foot training lead, he held him and his wife called him over when he came and sat he was rewarded with a little treat, then he would call him and he sat and received his little treat, now 6 months he runs round playing with the other dogs but comes as soon as he’s called, he is going to be a good one.

I guess there are a lot of non dog owners on here, for me camping/caravanning/motor-homing, allows you to take your pets with you. For people that don't like that chose a site that doesn't allow pets, kids northerners etc

PS I am a northerner with kids and a dog

Nonsense. Police dogs bark none stop.
Aah but they are trained to bark as intimidation.
I used to have police dog handlers as instructors at our dog training club. They taught us that to stop a dog barking first teach it to bark on command ( speak) and then teach it 'quiet' seemed to work well. Shame not enough people continue dog training past puppy class. So much enjoyment to be had training the advanced things like scent, send away and tracking, hide and seek etc.

Not going to get into the barking debate as it's all been said above and in past threads.
This am i went to the compound where our MH is parked. It seemed that every person out had one or more dogs and they all wanted to poo as i approached.................................. seeing them squat ready for a poo is something i cannot stomach. Of course i turn away but one cannot unsee it. If i accidentally see one doing it it's a very nearly throw up time for me. This is why i could never own one. Pick the poo up......................no chance, more chance of nailing a blancmange to the wall.
My brother in law says it makes a great hand warmer in winter YUK !

One of our rescue dogs barks at other dogs .
he was used as bait for fighting dogs .

he is soft as poo until he sees another dog. We try to visit places where they are no or few dogs. And walk him in the dark or secluded places as this causes the dog a great deal off stress.
so it can’t be the owners all the time .can it !View attachment 606520

if you want to try and train mine your welcome to try. The rescue centre we. Got him from were going to put him down but he took to us in seconds and now lives with our other rescue dog and after six months has now got used to my relations dog.
even now 5 years on he will not eat off of a plate a dish or a bowl .

taken all this time to get him to eat off of kitchen roll paper.
this is his two favourite toys a stuffed cat and a duck.
seldom goes anywhere with out the duck.
Same - jack Russel cross ; been with us now for 14 years. It was a very interesting first 5 years, trying to get a bait dog out of that habit takes years and years of work. At 17 years old he still hates spaniels.

We make a point of telling people about his past, to make sure they understand why he is like he is. As for any “normal” dog owner it can be hard to understand why this little dog is so angry.

I agree barking dogs are not great, especially on a peaceful site and we do everything we can to make sure ours are controlled and as quiet as possible, but i would ask about the past of the dog before condemning the owners, you just never know.

no dogs around he’s a soppy sod.

I think there should be more adults only, no dogs and no kids sites ......but then what would people wings about lol.......'The site was ok but too quiet for me'

I think that should read “Our dog barks thats what dogs can do.” I have owned and trained dogs for more than fifty years, and know that it is possible to train dogs to do most any reasonable thing. You need three things. Firstly you must understand dog psychology. Then you must apply your training firmly, and consistently, in a manner that dogs 'get' - they want to please. And they must know where they stand in the hierarchy, and will always test you to see if you are still top dog, or whether they need to take over.

You can tell the pack leader very easily - they are the ones pulling at the end of a long lead, the ones that barge through a door first, the ones that persistently bark (with good intent, they see it as their rôle, and haven't been told otherwise).

My dogs knew not to bark, except in certain circumstances, which we all clearly understood. A notable circumstance was was anybody of the 'tarmac-your-drive' persuasion.
Oh aren't you lucky one, Mr Perfect. Try doing that to a rescue that only ever knew being beaten with sticks and lead head, only seen the two people who hit him and thinking that is all anyone wants to do is be cruel to them, afraid of every dog because he was the runt of the pack and not even allowed to eat out of a bowl. That is the dog we rescued from the animal rescue, and proud to have done so
For the many members who know our Benji they will know the work we have put into him, though there are a few things that can never be put right like butting his bowl now and then to try to knock food out, warning off dogs that think they can bully him. Then again, you will know that won't you
Try being a bit tolerant with people who work hard to keep their digs quiet, not tar everyone with the same brush
Rant over.

Well done for sticking with your lovely dog and giving him a great life. We are in a similar position with a rescue Staffie from Battersea, she is great with us, ignores people, but is so reactive to other dogs. We walk her in places where we are unlikely to encounter other dogs & are always on the lookout for others. So long as there is distance between her & the other dog she is OK, if they come up to her all hell breaks loose, this used to really upset me, but if my dog is on a lead & other owners have no recall it’s hardly my fault. We distract her in the van if another dog is going by. We have spent £1000s on a behaviourist, not realily worked, I think her issues and anxiety are so deep rooted they are never going to go away.

In fact i never ever changed a nappy on our 2 sons..........couldn't.
Thats a terrible excuse to be honest. What would have happened had your wife used the same excuse?

I haven't the strongest stomach ...but i got over it.

For us going to a campsite without dogs having a bit bark is like going to a disco without music! Ironically our sites neighbors dog woke me up this morning at 7:30 No chew

Same as, Mrs CC was back out to work after our 2 we’re born so I use to look after them 2 evenings a week and Saturday after i came home from work.

Makes me wonder how people who don’t change nappies get on when taking kids out for the day without there partners?

Dogs yapping all day.....no problem..... but few fireworks in November and its as if a mass genocide has occurred.... calls for fireworks to be banned... ......how about we keep the fireworks and ban the yapping dogs ...and I'm an ex dog owner too...

Dogs bark for many reasons, excitement, fear, we have a 7 month terrier, terriers are known to be a yapping breed, he barks thats life, we just use distraction techniques, rewarding him when he's been a good boy.

I wasn’t going to reply to this thread but reading about those with rescue dogs and their ongoing issues is “close to home” for me.
I also have a rescue dog that came from Romania ( I don’t require a lecture on uk dogs needing homes, thanks). I can honestly say that I have never owned a dog like her.
She has fear aggression and is dog reactive because of her history. No amount of systematic desensitisation and counter conditioning will eradicate this from her behaviour patterns.
I manage her very well and am well aware of her triggers. The trouble I have is people!
They either don’t listen when I tell them to keep their distance, or not to touch her and I am forever telling people that my dog is under control and on a lead and it’s their dog that is running free and, 99% of the time, has no recall.

When on site, I will try to interrupt any behaviour like barking but dogs do bark and if somebody is really adverse to barking they should go to a dog free site. We all have choices.

I think that all MH and caravan owners are only allowed to have Basenjis by law? 😂😂

It’s OK until it hears a bell and then all hell breaks loose? 😆

I appreciate dog owners love their dogs but they should appreciate that not everybody else does. Well behaved dogs are fine but those who let them bark and also those who let them run around and pee up everything makes my blood boil. And before anyone says I should confront them I come away for a relaxing time and not conflict.

I don’t know why some people have a Motorhome. I hate yappy dogs, but I am going to a site, if there is one then tough.

Same as if there are kids, music, bikes etc etc.

If only everyone was more considerate of others, the ones with yappy dogs would shut them up and the ones who hated yappy dogs wouldn’t hate them so much.
quite true.
Site Im on now has become very busy, packed in fact.
Lots of noisy children every where, running though the pitch, playing hide and seek in the shower block slamming the doors and having a great time. Parents no idea where they are, but probably enjoying a well earned beer and a break behind their windbreaks.

Should the parents do something about it or say something, probably yes, will it kill me, no.

Point being there seems to be more acceptance of anti-social kids compared to dogs (when only one of them is able to understand "please dont do that").

Corrected it for you lol! 😋
