Motorhome stolen of my drive!

Also, oddly, I stopped on the A303 on the way home from the tunnel, and I saw what I am convinced was the neighbour's van from the campsite the night before, driving by. It was such an unusual make and model. You start to think all sorts of things, but in retrospect what are the chances of that? Am I paranoid? Probably.
I'd say that's probably worth mentioning to the police. Did you speak to them at all?

One simple measure we take is to block in the m/h with our car whenever it is on the drive.

In addition to Vanbitz alarm, tracker, strap between cab doors and driver seat turned and locked. Don’t think we can do anymore.

Have you heard anything re the Tracker. Dorwyn ?
Likewise, park car in front at right angles to MH. Also has milenco steering wheel lock, scorpion s5 tracker and ring doorbell which notifies us of movement outside. If anyone wants it, I'm not gonna stop them

Not about this. Very limited contact with the police, and from that limited contact I'm not sure they are that bothered.

I think the question was addressed to whether you spoke to the people on the campsite who you thought you’d seen later on the A303. I may be wrong. Often the case😀

it’s like an obsession with security she says and if he’s that bothered get rid of it and they’ll have different holidays, I
Far from it for me. I just wish to add that few seconds to it that allows me yo catch yhem in the act and eventually kill them

if they want your van they’ll have it and don’t worry one iota.
And sell I want is the opportunity to torture them first.
Have u ever thought of taking the engine out at night
Anything that helps me nail their hands to a tree then see how long it takes them to tear themselves free after I set them on fire is worth considering.

No I didn't, they never spoke to us, for reasons I won't go into.

Hope you get it back or that the insurance company pay out what you need to get the equivalent of yours.
A horrible situation for you.

Hmmm. As others have suggested, I’d tell the police about the possible sighting. You’re not accusing anyone of anything but it may not all be coincidence. Follow your gut on this.
I agree and don't let the police fob you off. You have every right to make sure they are doing all they can to trace it. Tell them you'll send gus-lopez round if they start messing you about.

I’d like gus-lopez the minister for law and order in the U.K.

Don't beat yourself up over it. If a thief wants your vehicle they will take it no matter how well you try and protect it.

Very sorry to hear your news, as above it happens, you must feel sick and last thing you want to hear you should have done this or that at this sad time, hope it's found, and the sods who stole it are hung, drawn and quartered . We have noted your registration and model.

Just read this thread. For what it's worth my condolences and best wishes too.

(We met at a rally and later you came to collect a spare awning winder after yours broke)

As I have posted before, mate came downstairs and his back door was open.
Turns out they had got in his house took his keys and driven his motorhome off after moving his other vehicle out the way!!

If they want it it’s pretty much gone☹️☹️

A neighbour had his new bmw stolen at 4am Sunday, caught 3 wearing hoods on the ring doorbell , they broke in , took the keys and left

Check your euro cylinder locks , if they're not anti bump replace them , ie old

Bmw's have a find my car tracker fitted , only they must all be in the same place as the theives had ripped it out by the end of the street.

I'm sorry to hear about this, and hope you get some sort of resolution.

But I'm not convinced by the "they must have followed you" or "someone put a tracker on it on the ferry" part of the discussions, unless it is parked well out of sight of the road so someone actually had to know it was there to get to it.

Just think about the logistics of it - you see a nice motorhome/camper on the ferry, or being driven on a motorway. You have no idea where it is going; by their nature they travel a long way. So slapping a tracker on it when it is parked somewhere, you don't know if it is going to the next town or the Outer Hebrides. Following it on the motorway, you could be going the length of the country then onto a ferry. As a thief, are you going to waste many hours of your time driving hundreds of miles, or potentially lose trackers if it goes somewhere too far away, to pinch something that there'll be quite a few of parked up in your local area? (Obviously not identical to yours, but to a thief a nice branded camper is a nice branded camper). It's a very nice van, but not so unusually valuable to a thief that it'd be worth travelling to nick, or following you home from France.

I'd be more inclined to believe that it was just bad luck, and either thieves driving around your local area looking looking for something to pinch or someone local who has noticed on your driveway previously.

I would ask your neighbours along the suspected route in and out of your area to let you view their CCTV footage for the time period you came home to when the van was stolen.
If you send them all a flyer to download footage between those times you can then compile a list of suspect vehicles etc

Hi
if this helps
we has a caravan stolen out of the garage. They smashed the garage door to take it.
twin wheel. We didnt have it insured. from up north. it had a tracker, the police told us not to go and get it. It was on a gypsy site. The tracker company wouldn’t go in. It was within 15miles of home.
two years later i got a call from the police, the caravan was just outside London. They had taken it
in a raid. We had to go and collect it. We had to pay for its storage and retrieval.
we brought it home and cleaned it up. We sold it for far less than its value owing to whay state t was in.
It doesn’t end there. Next thing we had the police. It seems they had changed the serial number.
we was being arrested. I rang the manufacturer and he confirmed the hidden serial number to the police. Then i rang London police who couldn’t ring the local police, but sent me an email confirming that their serial number had been changed.

so as you can see you dont win
our caravan now has the postcode on the roof in hiviz colours as well as other markings
so that it is seen on motorways and roads and not forgotton
im so sorry for you, it upsetting and stressful. GOOD LUCK
The Post code on the roof is not a good idea, if a thief sees it, it will not be difficult to find where it lives, better just to have some random numbers that can be seen from the air, just like police vehicles.

Thats horrible

Do you have a tracker installed?
We have a tracker fitted and maintained through Meta Trak, who have an excellent contact centre..
We were on the way back from Spain, on a ferry and I got a call to say my van is moving without the ignition being on, I explained we were on a ferry and all became clear. But what a service, ignition off and movement detected, and I get an instant phone call.
Well done Meta Trak. And thanks.

I wonder how many LHD vans are stolen whilst in the UK ? I would imagine, very few, unless they were stolen specifically to be exported to mainland Europe.

I have a LHD van and feel pretty safe when parked at home and using within the UK. The only security is an alarm system and deadlocks.

Whilst in Europe, we're mostly with the van.....unless out on the scooter.

Anyone had their LHD van stolen in UK ?

I have actually been down our road looking for cctv or doorbell cctv cameras and knocking on doors. There seems to be none. even the retired police superintendant doesn't have one. The police said they would be checking local cameras. Trouble is, it's gone anyway. And it won't have its reg number but false plates by now. To remove a 3.3ton van in the middle of the night, they are specialist thieves. But, thanks for the suggestion. I'm venturing further afield to day to look for cameras.

Very sorry to hear of the theft. I know how you feel as mine was stolen this time last year in London. Thanks to the tracker, the police recovered it the same day. The whole dashboard had been ripped out to find the tracker. Fortunately, the thieves failed.I can't emphasis enough that should you get your van back or buy another one it is worth every penny and for peace of mind, to place as much security as you can. These vehicles are travelling homes!

Interested to know what tracker you had and how you hid it 🙏
