Motorhome stolen of my drive!

Things change but in the past a vehicle is not technically stolen until 28days up until that point the insurers will not payout, if somebody was caught in it they wouldn't be charged with a theft.
I had a ford fiesta stolen, the assessor came to my house, they paid its value on the 29th day.helped I was in the police and assessor was ex police or so I liked go think that's why payout was prompt
When it comes to the actual theft, there is Google earth my van appeared twice one whilst in storage and again on my drive. I will also be polite, if you had woken up and heard them, would you go out and challenge them, your safety is the priority not the van, how often has somebody died hanging onto the vehicle as it's being stolen.
Not heard that 28 day "rule" before, at least not from the perspective that no crime has been committed until the car has been missing for 28 days. There was me thinking that if you reported your car stolen, it went straight on to the PNC and could end up being the target in one of those high speed chases we hear about from time to time. If the chasing police weren't intending to charge the driver with TWOC, why chase?

I can understand that insurers don't pay out immediately, stolen vehicles have been known to turn up virtually unscathed days after going missing. This from the AA explains the insurers' point of view: https://www.theaa.com/car-insurance/advice/stolen-car-claims https://www.theaa.com/car-insurance/advice/stolen-car-claims

you may have to think about getting a cheap little run around for now just to keep mobile, its not ideal but at least you would be able to get out and about, do you have children or grandchildren ?/a friend or neighbour that use the facebook app that would upload photos of your motorhome ?
spread the word type of thing, it could be helpful
Yes, I'm thinking of buying a runabout or maybe a slightly better one to see us through. Since we are a short walk from the shops and we need the exercise, we would only use the van for the heavy shop, so our runabout car would just sit on the drive and rot. Plus the shortage of good second hand vans means it's not going to be sorted quickly. So that seems to be the way to go.

Sorry if I misled you and remember things change, you would report your vehicle stolen, police would put vehicle on pnc hopefully it would be stopped, drivers and passengers arrested but for taking without owners consent not theft, in my early days in police we used to charge for tda and theft of petrol as you would get the car back but not the petrol. After 28 days the vehicle is considered stolen but proving they stole it is difficult. The ANPR cameras should be linked to the police and when car is spotted police can react, this was not used where I was based and only Hackney had the facility available but were to busy in most cases to react. I will however repeat I have been retired 10years

I would also like to highlight a earlier point I made earlier, some of these criminals are extremely violent individuals, many of us Motorhomers are past our best fighting weights, there is no shame in believing that your health is more important than material goods.

What three words, a great marker even in Cribbs car park which can be quite confusing at the M&S end! 🤣
A few years ago, we flew from Bristol Airport. Arriving in the middle of the night, we parked the car and noticed a courtesy bus nearby. Without really taking note of where we were, we ran for the bus.
10 days later .......... arrived back in Bristol, again in the dark. Where was the car? We walked up and down for a bit and eventually my wife sat down on her suitcase and told me to collect her when I found it! - it took me about 45 mins!
The next time we flew I had a Garmin hand-held GPS, & I made sure to save the car's location for when we returned!

Wouldn't stop me getting several head shots in with my .22 air rifle with the laser sights I've fitted

Google maps is useful to tag your start or parking place. I've done that a few times in unfamiliar towns.
Click on the search bar and you will see your home location etc and an option to add a place, click your location on map, then easy to find a route back

In the early 70's I was at a boarding school in Kent.
We boys would bunk over a security fence into the orchards of a large farm and pick as much fruit as we could eat.
The farmer however had an old flintlock muzzle loaded blunderbuss which he would fill with salt.
He could hit a schoolboy at 100m in the bare legs with that gun.
The ensuring bruises would be impressive.

For some reason I don't think shooting children for scrumping is permitted anymore

A neighbour had his old BMW gone through overnight but nothing in it worth taking. He doesn't lock it, and would probably be pleased if anyone nicked it.
These were just youths trying all the door handles. By the time they had done our road and the previous one they had appeared on about 40 security cameras/video doorbells. The police interviewed them the next day.

Only if it has a magazine!
Otherwise you tend to find by the time you have reloaded for the 2nd shot the quarry has run off!

I have a .177 air pistol with an 8 pellet magazine and I think I’m a good enough shot to at least take one eye out…😎

My rifle is gas cartridge powered, as is my wife's -22 handgun, pre loaded with eight pellets. Again with laser sites which will put a hole through both sides of a full can of Stella at 20m So will squish an eye

Although I would much prefer the instant’ justice I would be handing out with my stick if they touch my camper
