Mosel Meet.

We are leaving Blighty late on the 10th of August and overnighting at City Europe and then we will take a couple of days to trundle over to Trier.
Over the next couple of days we plan to mosey along the Mosel to the stellplatz at Schleich.
We will be watching German round of the World Rally Championship which is running round the vineyard in the area and at panzerplatte tank testing grounds near Reichenbach if any body wants a bit of high octane entertainment between the 17th to the 19th of August.
Here's an itinerary with maps of where the stages will be run.

We then plan to head further into Germany up the Mosel for a few more days before turning back and taking some more of the Mosel scenery on the way back home.
Other than the Saturday and Sunday at the WRC nothing is set in stone, so if anybody else is around the area at the time then give us a yell and we can maybe put some names to faces.

Roll in roll out, great idea, might well go to the Mosel mid September sounds lovely, this thread has sold it to me, no plans, as ever, just go where the fancy takes me, was going to go to Portugal (again) still might, after the Mosel who knows?(y)

We're on the Mosel, but in Luxembourg. We timed it right arrived from France with a 95% empty fuel tank. Filled up and parked up at the village of Remich on a place recommended on P4N.

Food eaten and the rain's stopped, so have we!

Our foray down the river starts here ...

Heading down from Calais on the 11th july for a few weeks, any advice for stops or meets would be nice thanks.

Moody photo of the Mosel in Luxembourg (well to halfway that is) 30 minutes ago from my window. Parked at the motorhome parking (free ).

Heading down through Germany later this morning.

Yahoooo free WiFi/data, this is in our plans on way back from Greece about then. (y)

A few have asked which is the best Stellplatz on the Mosel, they are all pretty good but one that sticks in our minds is the one at Reil. Its big with plenty of room, the river boats stop here so you can take a cruise up or down river. There are some lovely little riverside bars and restaurants along the village riverside promenade. Some excellent wineries that also give tractor/trailer tours of there vineyards. The Stellplatz has its own bar with a wood burning BBQ and hog roast. There is also free fast wifi. The cycle track runs through the Stellplatz and there is also toilets and washing up facilities all for 8 Euros per night and if you stay 6 nights you get the seventh free. We will quite possibly be staying here for a couple of weeks.

@Snowbird Whats the EHU availability at Reil (Riel is in netherlands ) :) ?

Sorry about the spelling (y). I would say at a guess there are about 100 hookups at least and there was some pretty big RVs there a few weeks ago, so would imagine its 10amp.

We have done the deed with Tesco Vouchers so will be reading this thread with interest.
As a nerd who has a fistful of 'Destination' stickers on the back of the 'Van, I wonder what would represent the Mosel?

It's in a rut on the gravel, just done the tyre pressure, going to be selling pegs on the roadside to pay for the trip.

glad its not oranges

I suppose its going to be a bit difficult recognising funsters as they arrive on different Stellplatz on different days, but am sure we will manage somehow.
It used to be easy recognising me in the old days as am sure I looked more like the circus coming to town than a motorhoming tourer.
The old Tiffin with my Shetland Black Hawk on tow was always a bit of an eye opener and the Rockwood with my buggy hanging off the back end caused some giggles.
Now I have become a more responsible motorhomer I have become a little more conservative with my modes of travel, but am still the same nutcase at heart

I have a Funster sticker in front window , and on rear end middle
so you will be able to differentiate from the Germans :)

Damned if I am putting a fun sticker on my Rear end. I don't want to give anyone any ideas.

Hi
We're on the Mosel near Trier on our way back to the tunnel, need to find a vet for the pet passport on Saturday or Monday somewhere enroute, weve rung a couple & left a message but not had a response, wondered if anyone had a recommendation & price for a vet that they have used? Thanks

I just use Google maps now. If you put "veterinary" in the search field it will show up all the vets in the visible part of the map. If you then click on one you will probably find it has reviews. Chrome should translate them automatically into English but you may well find some are in English and these are probably the most helpful as they are likely to say if the vet spoke English.

Update from me. We are still heading for the Mosel but probably won't get there now until either the very end of September or even early October.

I'm planning to get a ferry to Roscoff at the beginning of September then we will drive slowly along the north coast of France until somewhere near Dieppe where we will go for Luxembourg, if only for the fuel :) then to Trier. From there we will drive downstream to where the Mosel joins the Rhine when we will turn south and follow the Rhine to probably Strasbourg or a bit further south. From there back to Roscoff for a ferry at the end of October. Interested in looking at D Day beaches and WW1 related sites as we cross France both going and coming. Germany for the wines of course - and cake if we get south enough for the Black Forest. :)

I'll start the usual trip report and keep an eye on this thread, just in case there are any hardy souls still around the Mosel when we get there.

The van and trailer is now washed off, the trailer is loaded with the ebikes and the van is filled with water. Cook is busy loading provisions whilst I do the tyre pressures. I just have one more house to renovate before the off on Monday....easy does it .
