Mosel Meet.

Have been following post with interest, I am looking for some ideas for stop overs traveling from the Tunnel towards say Luxembourg end, you all have given lots of ideas for the Mosel, as we will be on holiday want to stop at least twice and relax ( life can be so tiring when you are retired).

The fastest route to the Mosel (well, the bit between Koblenz and Trier at least) will be using the Toll free Belgian motorways and on through Luxembourg. Depends when you land but we crossed mid afternoon and stopped at the aire at Tournai. Nothing special as an aire but it’s close to the town centre.

Should have said we are sort of going to join somewhere near Piesport, want to try and avoid the E40 and possibly the E 411.

Will be the normal last two weeks in September and a little of October to try and catch the festivities.

We love Krov.. But the whole area is just magic.

Very interested in the ro-ro meeting. Need details as to when and where. Sound a good idea to me.

Enjoy..

We have a ferry booked for 17 July, in Trier until around the 21st, then just trundle up to the next Stellplatz for a few days and post as and when we move along, but it will not be far, just a snails pace and a maximum of 10 kms between stops. No hurry on this one as I dont have to be in Munich until 25 September.

These might be of interest

Any chances of this being an annual thing, we’re thinking of heading that way around September next year :)

This thread is really wetting my appetite for the Mosel.
It looks more and more likely we are going to be joining this rolling meet at some time.

Richard.

No brainer if you haven't done the Mosel you'll be kicking yourself after.
Unfortunately its becoming more well known so we might not get a pitch :eek:

Had read through this thread as we're looking for ideas for our two weeks holiday in the middle of October. Anyone know the rough distance for the German part from Koblenz to Trier and if two weeks would do it justice.

Thanks for the replies so a nice easy drive with a few days stop here and there, we will decide nearer the time depending on weather.

Unfortunately, we have to be back in the UK for Sept 17th (latest), to prepare for an annual medication review, for an appointment on Oct 1st. :(.

Gerry, from Calais to Trier, it's only about 5.5 hrs in a MH. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

We do Zeebrugge Bruge Koln Koblenz 3 days then down the mosel a day or two at a time.
Cologne is worth a few days in itself

I think we'll be getting ferry from Dover on way out then back via Amsterdam - Newcastle, we would normally do Newcastle both ways but as it stands we can't get away from work before 4 on the Friday.

Will start looking at it more closely now.

We did dover first time and headed straight for Trier via Luxemburg. I think we stayed one night on route but it all begins with Trier

As we dont use tolls or motorways in Europe we transit from Dunkirk, through Tournai, Mons, Philippville, fuel up in Windhof Luxembourg and get my reduced tax goodies, then just over the border to Trier.
This route is about 250 miles and takes anything from 1 day to a week depending on if I get thirsty or find an exceptional restaurant :).

To give some idea of cost on this one. I paid £120 return Dover Dunkirk for a 7.5 metre van towing a small box trailer. Fuel cost in Luxembourg were 1.117 Euros per litre about 3 weeks ago, and a full tank should do the Mosel both ways. stellplatz fees are between 7 and 9 Euros per night with electric at around 2 Euros per day. if you have solar and are travelling every 3 or 4 days you should not require electric, or you can do as we do and just have the odd days plug in as required. there are plenty of Lidle and Aldis on route for provisions and the whole route is full of wineries for wine tasting with excellent wines not found in the UK at reasonable prices. For those that like to dine out occasionally, we have found some really good restaurants at reasonable prices, but there are some at the higher end of the scale, so the choice is yours. Many of the Stellplatz are going to be busy at this time of year, but remember, people are coming and going all the time. For those that have never used the Stellplatz system, its totally different to the French Aires system and you are allowed awnings and chairs and tables out just like a campsite. Maybe next year, God willing, we will try the same meet a little earlier in the year to avoid peak times if anyone is interested. We are looking forward to meeting old friends and new on this trip, as one of JJs people informed me the legendary @champers will be gracing us with her presence (y).

Recommendations for Stellplatz app, anybody I have every other app might as well have one of these. Roll on August.

I could not find a decent app for the Stellpaltz other than the Bordatlas online app, https://www.bordatlas.de/index_en.php
It's 16.90 euros for the app so I went for the book version off of Amazon which includes a second book for aires around the rest of Europe.

Amazon product ASIN

We have Trier set in the satnag and we're driving in rain near Belfort at the moment. Hoping for better weather in the next few days, but not as hot, pleeeease.

Did the Mosel in Sept 2016 and really enjoyed it so having a return visit on the way to Norway and Sweden.

We're at Bad Sobernheim, moving steadily back towards Trier, had really bad thunderstorms yesterday, drizzly & rainy here today, but not cold. Weather forecast for the Mosel back up to 28/30' from tomorrow!

Yes much too hot - hardly done anything for the previous 4 days except stay in the shade, yesterday's weather was from 1 extreme to the other! We were on the Mosel in June, moved down the Rhine & are now making our way back to the Mosel, it's definitely the nicest area

The Bordatlas online app will work without paying for it but they have cut out a lot of site info which is what your paying for on the pay version but it still gives you map positions when I had a fiddle with it the other evening so might still be of some use.

We will be in the area, but not until the 24th Sept., will it still be busy then?
