Mosel Meet.

For those who have never been before, the Mosel Valley is one of our all time favourite MH'ing destinations, and although we have been several times, we never tire of the beautiful scenery and often changeable weather. The ability to hop on and off the route due to the many Stellplatz along the way, makes holidaying so easy and relaxed. Some days we've only travelled 10 - 15 minutes, before pulling in to our next stopover. (y)

Yes, they might be busy around end August and most of September, and although you might struggle to get a waterside pitch, we've always managed to get "a pitch". The likes of Enkirch and Klusserath are huge Stellplatz, (large enough for RVs) and give the feeling of "safety in numbers" if you are not sure, or have never stayed on the Stellplatz before, (as Rita pleasantly discovered on her first trip to Germany).

Whilst I try my best to communicate in German (especially Ps & Qs), more often than not, English is spoken, especially by the younger generation. We have always found the Germans to be friendly and helpful, bearing in mind that there are very few opportunities to have a fight over a sun lounge.

The Mosel is definitely quieter (only one railway line) and less industrious than the Rhine, which accommodates a railway line each on side of the river.

It may be possible that we might take up @Snowbird Dave's offer to join his Ro-Ro Meet ourselves, once we are sorted re appointments/tests/meds, etc.

If you've not done this type of trip before in your MH, this would be a great opportunity to test the water, (pun intended ;) ), knowing that you would be in similar company should you need advice or guidance. Rita and I have made so many MH'ing friends since 2005, through meets like this. :) Go on, give it a go. You won't regret it. (y)

Cheers,

Jock & Rita. :)

@JockandRita agree the more the merrier :) I will be at Enkirch on w/e 01-09 for the big Overland vehicle Meet , so unless you want to attend that meet (several hundred vehicles expected) probably be a good place for everyone to avoid.

Ha ha Max. I'd be in my element at that meet, (boys big toys ;) ), but appreciate it wouldn't be for everyone. Thanks for the "heads up". (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I'm LOVING this thread, deffo going there in the next two months!

If this is not a silly question..... which part of the river valley is the most scenic/pretty/beautiful ? I looked on Wikipedia and the castles look amazing (spesh the one nr Cochem)

And where are the best Stellplatz?

I'm excited! :dance2:

I have just spoken to Angela Merkel and she has personally informed me that all stellaplatzes along the Mosel will be closing in September.

She has said their are some nice Aires in Kenya which will be ideal for a funster rolling meet.

(See you on the Mosel in September @Snowbird but keep it quiet this time)

We started off in Koblenz and jumped off in Trier as we had a ferry to catch. We will be travelling in the opposite direction end of July starting in Trier. I dont think there is a "best" stellplatz on the Mosel as they are all superb. The scenery all along the river is as good as anywhere, but am sure it will be busy during the time we will be there but I dont envisage any problems with it being a rolling meet, there will be people jumping on and off the meet all along the route.

Look forward to it pal. Should be a good warm up for Beni.

Sad day in Chochem, Fri, you could not park a push bike let alone a MH. Way too popular. Had to settle for Schweich.

Best of British in peak season.

Before that we lasted one night in Sank Goar. Hardly slept, trains just never stopped. Very sad, such a delightful location.

Yes we stayed at the campsite there, we had a pitch given near the railway line, it was terrible all night.

We love St Goar and Bacharach, but it is noisy on the Rhine with the two railways and goods trains running around the clock, and thats why we prefer the Mosel, much quieter. I dont doubt it will be busy in high season, but where isn't. Trier was busy last month with a travelling funfair at the rear of the stellplatz, but we survived.

We are travelling to Brugge on the 14th sep and heading in that direction so we will keep watching this thread hoping our paths will cross . Sounds fun . Never done Germany and stellplatz before so a new adventure

We absolutely love the Mosel valley. Would also love to meet you lot over there but due to Germanys stance re A frames Germany is off the cards for us....

My favourite venue the Nurbergring is at the head of the Mosel. Cockem used to be another favourite for us as well.

Have an awesome time !!!

France is still ok..... Germany and Spain not so..
A trailer is not viable for us for many reasons. I really wish my wife could sit on the back of a scooter but that sadly is not possible.

We really love Germany and have fond memories of some great times there...

That is not the information I understand. Just another axe for the antis to beat A frame users with..

Anyway I couldn’t really care as we are selling up sooner rather than later I hope.

Oh and by the way.. There is something set out in European law that states that if it’s legal to say for instance use a vehicle in the persons own country then due consideration must be given to doing so in other European country’s. So as it’s legal to Aframe in the UK then we have in principle at least the right to do it in EU countries.

Example. Some of the really large lorries that travel in and out of the UK from the EU are heavier than current UK law allows. Imagine the uproar if UK PC plod nicks them ?

Of course when we leave the EU any rights will be lost. But we ain’t yet ........

Any half way decent lawyer would tear apart any agg from an EU copper if he or she nicked us.

We would agree with @JockandRita as we are coming to the end of our first trip to the Moseley.
Once there we probably did less than 60 miles moving between stellplatz.
They are all clean and we'l laid out some have showers and toilets some have nothing.
You can wander into the little villages and sample the locally produced wines and restaurants.
It is a beautiful place and we will be returning in the very near future and will possibly dip in to @Snowbird rolling meet.
In our opinion a much nicer experience than France and we also found the restaurants less expensive and better quality

Well, after reading all the positive posts about the Mosel, while pitched up on a lovely aire at Montherme, we made the decision to change our plans from travelling down the east side of France towards the Dordogne, to heading to the Mosel and here we are on the Stellplatz at Wintrich (seem to be the only Brits here).

And isn't it wonderful? (y)

Enjoy,

Jock. :)

Hardly "settle" really, OK not cute like Cochem but the site charges 12E a night with good views and good facilities. Good supermarket and banks within easy walk.

You mean YOU go to banks then draw money OUT then SPEND it. I reckon you are having us on.

Have been following post with interest, I am looking for some ideas for stop overs traveling from the Tunnel towards say Luxembourg end, you all have given lots of ideas for the Mosel, as we will be on holiday want to stop at least twice and relax ( life can be so tiring when you are retired).

Love the Mosel, was there last Sept and hope to be there again this Sept sometime.
